TBDNS - Chapter 126

Episode 126. Was it your trap?

“He’s a traitor. He was in league with those who wanted to assassinate the Emperor.”

“...What?”

Adele was momentarily taken aback by Leana’s words, but Mia suddenly screamed.

“Where did this little brat get such nonsense! My brother is a traitor! Make the accusation more believable!”

Hwarurur!

In an instant, flames fell in front of Mia.

“Whoa!”

“I’m sorry, I’m young, so I can’t control my anger well.”

Mia was about to foam at the mouth and rush forward, but Adele barely managed to stop her.

“Please, Leana. Make sure I meet His Majesty.”

“Well. The evidence is so clear that even His Majesty won’t be able to help.”

“Please, Leana....”

Adele eventually knelt in front of Leana. If only she could save Mark this way.

“What the heck! Get up, Adele.”

A flustered Leana tried to wake her up, but Adele desperately pleaded.

“Let me see him.”

“What’s going on at this hour?”

At that moment, a low, low voice was heard. There was a metallic quality to the voice that was so familiar.

Adele raised her head, feeling both relief and anxiety. Christine was approaching her. He had a sword at his waist, and his whole body smelled of blood.

Adele realized once again that he was a member of the wolf clan.

***

He looked like a wolf who had just finished hunting.

His eyes flashed fiercely, and his breathing was rough. A ferocious and sensitive beast, it was excited by the smell of blood. It seemed as if he would rush in and bite the nape of her neck at the slightest provocation.

He frowned as he looked at Adele, who was kneeling in front of Leana.

“Get up, madam.”

Adele said as politely as she could as she got up from her seat.

“Are you feeling better? I couldn’t ask you because I was so flustered at the theater.”

“Are you concerned about my health since you are in a position to ask me for help?”

The cold sarcasm pierced Adele’s heart.

“Mark was arrested for treason. There must have been a misunderstanding. Please investigate properly.”

Christine looked back at Zimmer behind her.

“A misunderstanding.”

Zimmer stepped forward. Zimmer, who had a sword at his waist, also looked like he had just returned from the battlefield. Blood was splattered all over his face and clothes.

“Count Castler treated and hid the rebel priests. They attacked His Majesty as he was coming out of the opera house a little while ago. If we had been even a step late, His Majesty would have been in big trouble.”

After winning the war against the Vatican, Christine divided the priests into two groups. Those who could use divine powers and those who could not.

The former were mercilessly executed, while the latter were left in the Vatican and the cathedral in exchange for swearing allegiance.

The forces that fled in the process became rebel priests centered around Maurice. Most of them were priests who used divine powers and were a nuisance.

“He wouldn’t have known! He was just treating the patient!”

Christine said, staring blankly at Adele, who was shouting urgently.

“The two of us have something to talk about.”

As soon as he finished speaking, the people retreated like the tide. Christine and Adele were now the only ones in front of the main gate of the wide palace.

A thin spring rain had been wetting their shoulders for some time.

Christine bent down and picked up something that had fallen on the floor.

“Sit over there.”

What he was holding in his hand were Adele’s shoes. She hadn’t even noticed that they had come off while scuffling with the guards.

“Your Majesty, I...”

“If you’ve come to ask a favor, then follow my orders.”

Adele had no choice but to sit on the stone foundation supporting the arched door frame.

Christine took off his outer garment and placed it over his head and shoulders. Adele looked at him in surprise, but he naturally knelt on one knee and held out his palm. Asking for her foot.

When Adele carefully put her foot out, he nonchalantly brushed off her muddy foot and put on her shoes. Just that made Adele feel like she had gone back to the old days.

“You said you were attacked. Are you hurt anywhere?”

“Are you really curious?”

Her eyes met his as he raised his head. Embarrassed, Adele quickly pulled her foot out of Christine’s hand and stood up. She also returned the outer garment that was draped over her shoulder.

“I forgot that Your Majesty has a different body from others.”

Christine, who followed her, also returned his cool expression.

“After receiving treatment at Castler’s clinic, Maurice attacked me with the rebel priests. He is a first-class fugitive with wanted posters scattered everywhere. Did the Count really not know?”

“He wouldn’t have known.”

“Can you prove it?”

“I’ll try... somehow.”

“Unfortunately, a traitor is executed immediately if the charges are proven. That’s my rule. He will be tried and executed within three days.”

His voice was so majestic that it seemed like he would never change his mind.

Adele couldn’t believe the whole situation. Just a moment ago, Mark was the star of the birthday party. Everyone was celebrating and enjoying him, but now he’s being executed.

“Chris... no, Your Majesty, please!”

Christine’s heart ached again as he watched Adele cling to him, sobbing. It felt like blood was flowing over Adele’s name engraved on his chest.

A woman struggling without even realizing that her shoes were coming off, kneeling on the wet floor, begging and shedding tears.

It was all for someone else.

I’m suffering so terribly because of you. You...

“Go back, Madame. If Castler is cleared of charges, he might be released from trial. Although that’s not possible right now.”

“Ahh...”

Adele’s body swayed. If this continued, Mark would die soon. He was someone who only knew children and the clinic, and now he’s a traitor.

“You couldn’t possibly be... a trap you set... right?”

He shrugged his shoulders and didn’t deny it.

“Believe what you want to believe.”

Goosebumps ran down Adele’s neck.

“You’re not even a human being....”

She glared at him with eyes filled with hatred and backed away. The more she did, the more Christine wanted to torment her. He couldn’t bear the pain that made his heart burst because of her.

“It’s not an insult to me. Don’t you know better than anyone else? I went to that doctor because I’m an animal.”

Sadness and contempt filled Adele’s cold eyes.

“You’ve really forgotten everything. And you’ve become someone else.”

Christine had a hard time accepting that resentful gaze.

“Go back carefully, madam.”

Adele spoke clearly to him as he turned away.

“Countess Grylls. Everyone calls me that.”

“...?”

“Because Mark and I didn’t even make a marriage vow. Why do you think? It was to wait for you. Mark understood. But I was so foolish. I had no idea that you would change like this...”

Christine sneered.

“So you got pregnant without a marriage vow? You can’t live without a man, right? Well, it got hot quickly even in the theater.”

At that moment, Adele’s red lips rose coldly.

“You’re not a wolf, you’re a bastard, Christine Weiss!”

And she left, raising a cold wind.

After she disappeared, Christine, who had been standing there blankly, gradually regained his senses.

‘You waited for me?’

“Zimmer!”

“Yes, Your Majesty!”

When Adele disappeared, Christine turned around and shouted. Zimmer, who had been standing far away with his soldiers, quickly ran over.

“Has Maurice been caught?”

Most of the rebel priests who had attacked Christine were killed on the spot. However, several of the top priests, including Maurice, had escaped.

“A tip came in, so Leana is in pursuit.”

Leana could read the mana of the priests, so she was the best person to pursue them.

“Mark Castler?”

“He was sent to the interrogation room of the Black Castle.”

Damn it, already!

Christine, who had once been the captain of the guards of Kalame, knew that all kinds of torture took place in the interrogation room of the Black Castle.

“Are they interrogating him now?”

“Yes, because he might know where Maurice is.”

“I will meet him. Tell them to stop the interrogation immediately.”

“Yes, Your Majesty!”

***

The torchlight in the Black Castle to the north was as bright as day. Dozens of people had been arrested on charges of aiding the rebel priests. Mark was one of them.

Christine entered the interrogation room where Mark was being held. The disgusting smell that hit him instantly made him feel like vomiting.

He had spent half his life on the battlefield. Even so, the cruel and disgusting smell unique to the torture room was hard to bear.

Mark’s arms were hanging from iron chains connected to the wall. His white shirt was torn here and there, as if he had been whipped, and long streaks of blood were seeping out. His face was also covered in sweat, blood, and tangled hair.

Christine, who had always looked neat and gentle, furrowed his brows involuntarily. If Adele had seen him like this...

“Mark Castler, where is Maurice?”

However, Christine’s voice echoing through the interrogation room was cold and oppressive. After all, Mark was suspected of helping the rebel priests.

“...”

When there was no answer, the soldiers in the interrogation room threw water on Mark’s face.

Whoa!

Only then did Mark’s body twitch, and he raised his head. His eyes were swollen shut from being hit, and blood was flowing from the corner of his mouth. What a horrible sight.

“Where is Maurice, Castler?”

“I don’t know... I just treated an injured patient...”

“He was a wanted criminal with flyers posted everywhere. How could you not know?”

“He had a burn wound on his face and was wearing a bandage. If I had known, I wouldn’t have treated him and missed the performance with Adele.”

When Adele’s name came out of Mark’s mouth, Christine felt something was wrong. Adele must still be worried about him and not sleeping.

He felt like the terrible villain who had separated them.

“Adele was here. She begged for your life.”

“Huh...!”

A soft laugh escaped Mark’s lips.

“So that’s why you had that expression on your face, Your Majesty.”

Christine's right hand unconsciously moved to the sword grip.

Would he really become a villain after cutting him down?

"Yes, it feels really dirty. So I'm going to make a good offer to Adele. Give birth to my successor. Then maybe I can spare the traitor for once."

"Pfft! Puhahaha!"

Mark's laughter grew louder than before.

Swish!

Christine's rapier slipped out and aimed under his chin.

"What's so funny?"

Mark laughed coldly with bloodshot eyes and bloody lips.

"Do you know how foolish Your Majesty is? Your heart is hell because you don't trust that woman."

"...!"

"A fool who doesn't know that it's a treasure even though he's holding it in his hand."

"How dare you, to Your Majesty!"

The interrogation room soldiers, standing behind him, rushed at him with whips.

Christine raised him hand to stop him.

"Send Mark Castler to prison. I'll interrogate him, so no one touches him."

"Yes, Your Majesty!"

“Treat his wounds.”

“Yes, Your Majesty!”

Christine, having parted ways with Castler, climbed the stairs of the Black Castle’s basement. Zimmer followed him quietly. Screams and groans echoed here and there through the spiral staircase. But they did not reach his ears.

Mark and I didn’t even make a marriage vow. Why do you think? I waited for you.”

“Your heart is in hell because you don’t trust that woman.”

The two voices kept ringing in his ears.
