TBDNS - Chapter 122

Episode 122. I Don't Remember You, I'm Like a Fool

Three days later, in the morning.

Zimmer, led by the WG knights in white, entered the conference room.

The nobles who were waiting for Christine began to murmur.

It had already been three days. He had been locked in the Marvel Palace for three days and had not moved. The WG knights surrounded the Marvel Palace and did not allow anyone to approach. They also sent out all but the bare minimum of servants and attendants from the Marvel Palace. And no one inside could come out.

There were many rumors about this. Some said he was seriously ill, some said he had turned into a wolf and could not return to human form, and some said he had already died.

"Is His Majesty not attending today?"

Zimmer answered Isabelle's question calmly as he sat down in his chair.

"His Majesty is currently assessing the overall state of affairs of Kalame. So, from today on, I will be presiding over the meeting for the time being. Please take your seats."

The people gathered in the conference room stirred. Everyone had seen Zimmer since he was Christine’s adjutant.

But now that he was appointed Duke, he was acting as the Emperor’s representative?

The arrogant nobles of Kalame could not accept it.

“I heard that His Majesty is sick...”

Zimmer laughed leisurely at Isabelle’s words.

“That’s not true. His Majesty can’t do that even if he wants to. You all know how strong the Wolf Clan is. Then, let’s start the meeting now.”

“No, we will wait for His Majesty.”

“That would be better. We only serve the Emperor of the Bahamart Empire as our lord.”

The nobles stubbornly rejected Zimmer.

Zimmer nodded with an awkward smile.

“Yes, I fully understand your intentions.”

He then raised his hand and made a sign to the knights he had brought with him. The WG knights blocked the nobles’ backs in unison.

“What are you doing, Duke Crichton!”

Zimmer looked around at the nobles with a cold expression.

“I told you. I am acting on His Majesty’s orders. To disobey me is to defy His Majesty. From now on, anyone who defies His Majesty will be mercilessly cut down!”

Sling! Sling!

As the knights drew their swords all at once, the conference room quickly became tense.

The one sitting at the head of the room was not the adjutant of Christine that the nobles knew. He had taken off his gentle expression like a mask, and he was another Christine!

They felt intimidated by Zimmer’s cold and fierce expression.

“Your Excellency!”

At that moment, a knight quickly entered the conference room and whispered to Zimmer. Only then did Zimmer erase his fierce expression and stand up.

“I think we need time for each other. Let’s hold the meeting again tomorrow.”

“Wow, you’ve gotten tougher than I thought.”

Zimmer, who was leaving the conference room, raised his head at the familiar voice.

A familiar face was leaning against the window in the hallway.

“Jennifer!”

“I thought you were the captain when you came out of there.”

Zimmer smiled and whispered.

“I’m just imitating what I’ve seen him do.”

Then the two shook hands and bumped shoulders.

“Congratulations, Duke Crichton.”

“Thank you. How have you been?”

“A lot of things have happened.”

Jennifer then nodded at his leg. Now that he saw it, one of his legs had a wooden prosthesis attached to it. It was a leg that had been injured by priests a long time ago and had to be amputated.

Zimmer’s expression darkened as he remembered him when he was healthy.

“How did that happen...”

But Jennifer still laughed cheerfully.

“I’m sorry for your sad expression. This is not even a big deal.”

“Then what else is going on?”

“My wife gave birth the day before yesterday. You know Judy, who was Count Castler’s assistant? She’s my wife now. She couldn’t even come to greet His Majesty because she was giving birth at home.”

Zimmer’s face brightened immediately.

“Wow! Congratulations on becoming a father! You must have been especially nervous since it’s your first child.”

“My first child? This is our fourth. My wife and I both really enjoy the adult world.”

Zimmer’s eyes widened at the unexpected words.

They say that a late learner’s thievery is scary...

“Haven’t you been doing so well?”

Thinking about it, Jennifer looked much more cheerful and happy, except for his legs.

Jennifer laughed again.

“To the point where I feel sorry for others. By the way, why did you come to me in such a hurry?”

In fact, Jennifer had been called by Zimmer after asking around.

“I thought you might be able to answer my curiosity.”

“Curiosity?”

Jennifer seemed to have sensed what he was going to ask.

“Adele Grills’s child. You know about that child, right?”

Jennifer’s expression, which had been laughing cheerfully, hardened for a moment.

“Why are you curious about that?”

“Is it the captain’s child?”

“No. Absolutely not!”

Jennifer’s face turned red, and he shouted. However, Zimmer, who already knew about it, nodded.

“It is the captain’s child.”

“Damn it! Why now!”

That kind of reaction was certain.

***

After parting ways with Jennifer, Zimmer headed straight to the Marvel Palace.

The Marvel Palace, surrounded by the WG Knights, was operating with a minimal number of personnel.

It would have been very difficult if Christine’s condition had been known to the outside world. Then the King of Kalame would lead his army and attack this place right away.

Christine, who was lying in bed, had not woken up for three days. Occasionally, he would regain consciousness, but would faint in pain.

He who had been called the Bloody Emperor while running around the battlefield was now no different from a corpse. He was pale and bloodless, and his whole body was cold like a dead person. Even though he was covered with several blankets, his body was shivering, and his color was not returning.

At this rate, it would be strange if he died at any moment.

“How is there no way? If it’s Miss Leana’s magic...”

Zimmer urged Leana out of frustration.

“His Majesty told me not to use magic. My magic is only to erase Adele’s memories and free him from pain. It will be the same as right after the sealing ceremony.”

Leana, the great archmage, could do nothing but nurse him for three days. She was the one who felt the most sorry for him.

“If something goes wrong...”

“Then I’ll have to decide again. Should I disobey His Majesty’s orders and live or not?”

“I won’t... die...Don’t worry...”

At that moment, Christine’s labored voice was heard. The two approached him with joy.

“Your Majesty!”

“Your Majesty!”

He answered with a pale and pale face.

“It’s still bearable... So the magic... later...”

“You might die like this!”

Leana cried out, sobbing.

“I... know my... body well...”

Even as he spoke, he groaned in pain.

That sight made Leana angry.

Why on earth did he treat Adele so...!

“Is it worth it? Why would you remember a woman who has already had a child with another man and is living happily? You’ll only get hurt! You said you don’t like pain!”

Christine smiled weakly.

“Yes. But... I feel like an ignorant fool in front of that woman... It’s horrible... I also hate feeling indebted to her...”

Then Zimmer cautiously spoke.

“Your Majesty, I have something to tell you.”

“If it’s about the meeting, then later... It’s still a bit difficult... Ugh!”

He clutched his heart as the pain surged back, and his body began to convulse.

“Your Majesty! Are you okay? Leana, please...!”

As Zimmer, surprised, hugged him and shouted, Christine waved her hand.

“Ah... It’s... okay...”

His hand fell away, and he lost consciousness again.

“....!!”

As Leana urgently recited the spell, ancient words with a faint red glow began to appear in the air. He was going to disobey Christine’s orders and use magic.

Then Zimmer blocked Christine’s path.

“Get out of the way!”

Leana shouted, but

Sling!

He pulled out his rapier instead.

“You dare fight me?”

Of course, Leana scoffed, but he was serious, almost solemn.

“No one who defies His Majesty’s orders will be spared! There are no exceptions to this rule.”

“Even if His Majesty dies?”

“He will overcome. Because he said so.”

Finally, Leana waved her hand, and the red ancient language disappeared.

“Thank you, Miss Leana.”

“You are both fools!”

Leana turned and left the room.

Boom!

Zimmer sighed deeply, looking at Christine, who had fainted from pain.

Why was he enduring this terrible pain and trying to remember her? The woman who was now just another man’s wife.

Was it because his heart was still tied to Adele?

Was it better to remember her now?

They had a child together...

Christine’s child.

Why had Adele kept that fact a secret?

No, there had clearly been some misunderstanding.

“Could it be... that His Majesty didn’t receive the letter that she sent?”

“A letter?”

“Oh my God!”

Did someone intercept Adele’s letter? Who dared?

***

“Is that true? The Emperor is dying.”

Adele looked at the people in surprise at the unexpected words.

Adele was currently gathered in Isabelle’s drawing room with five or six noble ladies. They had something to discuss about the cathedral bazaar that was to be held soon. It was an event that they had been sponsoring for six years already.

However, today, everyone was more interested in other things than the meeting. Most of them were about the Emperor.

“Do you know anything, Countess Grylls?”

The people who had been chattering among themselves looked at Adele with curious eyes.

“No, how could I possibly know about His Majesty?”

Adele said flatly.

“But you used to be quite special.”

Then the woman next to her began to whisper as if they wanted to hear.

“What good is the past? Now there’s a woman called the Archmage who’s always been by his side.”

“She’s the Emperor’s nephew.”

“What about a nephew? I heard that the two of them haven’t left their bedroom in the Marvel Palace for days. The Emperor isn’t sick.”

“Oh my, who would call them animals?”

The ladies jeered and laughed.

Finally, Adele couldn’t hold it in any longer and spoke harshly.

“It seems like no one is interested in the bazaar.”

Then Isabelle stepped forward and cleared the air.

“Now, now! Enough with the useless talk. It’s impolite to talk about His Majesty the Emperor. Let’s get back to talking about the bazaar.”

But Adele could no longer stay here. The ladies were talking about Christine and watching her reaction. With amused eyes.

“I’m sorry. Something urgent came to mind, so I’ll be going now.”

When Adele got up, Isabelle nodded.

“Yes. Thank you for your time today, Countess Grylls.”

“You’re welcome. Well then.”

Adele pulled down her hat and bowed gracefully before leaving the drawing room.

Then the ladies who had remained began to whisper again.

“She still has feelings for the Emperor, doesn’t she?”

“Why not? That must be why she's called Countess Grylls instead of Countess Castler.”

“I heard she hasn’t even made a marriage vow with Count Castler yet. They said they had a child together and just started living together.”

“Anyway, she's a promiscuous woman who pretends to be noble.”

“She's been known for a long time.”

While listening to the people’s chatter, Isabelle went to the window.

Adele, who had left the main palace, was seen walking through the garden. Her slender and elegant back still caught people's attention. Even the guards inside the palace glanced at her.

So, was she any different from the Emperor? She was once a woman who could not live without dying.

Furthermore, the reason why the two broke up was also unclear.

Isabelle, who stared at Adele's back with her eyes narrowed, quietly smiled.

'Adele Grills. She might be a great key to defeating the Emperor.'
