TBDNS - Chapter 143

Episode 143. D-Day

The sunny second-floor terrace was filled with colorful spring flowers, and desserts and apple pies were placed deliciously on the round table.

Zimmer was looking at the flowers with a very satisfied expression, but Christine had his arms crossed and a serious expression.

“The wounds on their ears are still bothering me.”

“Did Maurice put a bug in their ears? Maybe it was itchy and they scratched.”

“The bug made them commit suicide?”

Zimmer became slightly dispirited when Christine looked dumbfounded.

“The bug must have gotten in their ears and whispered. Die, like that.”

“Do you want to die?”

“No, I don’t.”

At that moment, Adele and Aaron entered the terrace.

Christine’s serious expression quickly brightened.

“What did Leana say?”

“She said it would be hard to save Jade even with her magic.”

“I told you I would talk to her.”

“No, if Leana could really do it, she would have done it. Don’t bring it up again.”

“Um...”

While agreeing with Adele, Christine felt something was strange. With Leana’s healing magic, she could have saved anyone who wasn’t dead.

She even saved people who were dead like him.

“But wasn’t Leana different from usual?”

“Yes!”

Aaron quickly answered Christine’s question.

“Yeah, what was it, Aaron?”

“My sister cried while sleeping.”

“Crying while sleeping?”

Everyone was surprised. Leana wasn’t that kind of person at all.

“Yes, and she said something very small, Maurice... Is Maurice her friend?”

“Really, Aaron?”

Aaron confidently answered Adele’s question.

“Yes!”

Boom!

“You little brat!”

Leana, who had just entered the terrace, grabbed Aaron.

“Ouch! It hurts!”

Leana rubbed Aaron’s head and explained to the others.

“I think I was crying because I couldn’t catch Maurice. That son of a bitch, if I catch him, I’ll grind his bones and flesh into powder!”

“Ahem, Miss Leana, Aaron is listening.”

Zimmer carefully warned Aaron’s parents, who were flustered.

“Wow, apple pie looks delicious!”

Regardless, Leana stuffed a piece of pie into her mouth.

However, Christine’s eyes, looking at Leana, became sharper than before.

A few days later.

“Will you be okay tomorrow?”

Christine asked while walking along the lakeside of Marvel Palace.

Spring was at its peak, and the surroundings were dazzlingly splendid with all sorts of flowers.

In the meantime, the cathedral bazaar was approaching tomorrow, and Maurice had not made any moves yet.

It was a peaceful spring day, as if nothing would happen.

Adele smiled brightly.

“I have to be there to fool Maurice and Isabelle. If they don’t move tomorrow, they won’t be able to prevent another misfortune that could happen at any time.”

Christine decided not to try to persuade Adele any longer. He knew that once she made up her mind, no one could stop her.

“Then I’ll keep Paul by your side tomorrow. If Maurice starts to act, quickly get out of the way.”

“Sir Paul?”

“Why, are you scared?”

Paul was a member of the wolf clan. Among the clan, some looked perfectly human, like Christine, but Paul looked like a mixture of wolf and human.

Some found it fascinating, but most were afraid and kept their distance. Especially in times when the wolf clan was so vigilant.

“No. I just thought it would be a waste to protect me with such a great force as Sir Paul. I heard he was a warrior on par with you.”

Christine flared up.

“There’s no warrior who can beat me!”

“You, you know, are the same as Leana? The world’s strongest magician and the world’s strongest warrior. I guess blood is thicker than water.”

Christine coughed in embarrassment.

“Because it’s true.”

“That’s right. And I like seeing you so confident. It’s like seeing a little boy.”

Then his expression quickly turned lecherous.

“If you just kiss me, you’ll feel it right away. How much of a man that boy has become.”

He cupped Adele’s head and brought his face close as if he were going to kiss her.

“Oh, what is that?”

“Huh?”

When Christine looked back, Adele quickly ran away through the trees.

“Isn’t it because someone thinks you’re a wolf? You attack me without warning.”

“Then why are you running away to a secluded place?”

“It’s instinct.”

“Oh, an instinct to want to have a more mature love in a secluded place?”

“No, an instinct to run away from wolves.”

The two of them squabbled and wandered around the trees as if they were playful.

However, the problem was that this was the Marvel Palace.

There were numerous maids and servants, and knights were wandering around everywhere.

They clicked their tongues as they watched Adele and Christine’s terrible game of tag.

“Is it really His Majesty? He looks like a lump of butter wearing His Majesty’s disguise.”

“Don’t let your insides sag or even tremble.”

Zimmer nodded in agreement.

“I understand. I still haven’t gotten used to it.”

The knights clicked their tongues again.

“I haven’t gotten used to your current appearance either.”

Zimmer, a flower lover, had already found himself embracing a bouquet of flowers. He had even unknowingly placed a flower behind his ear...

“Ahem, but I haven’t seen Paul for a while.”

Zimmer quickly took out the flower from his ear and changed the subject, but received an unexpected reply.

“Captain Paul is also in love.”

“Paul?”

“Yes, he even spent the night out a few days ago.”

Zimmer looked down at the bouquet of flowers in the product.

He felt empty for some reason. Spring is the season of flowers... No, it’s the season of love! He had ignored it for a long time.

‘Damn it... A romance that Paul is in!’

“Ouch!”

Adele screamed in surprise as she ran through the forest while playing with Christine.

A dark shadow suddenly appeared and grabbed her.

“Oh, I’m sorry! Countess Grills! Are you okay?”

The shadow, realizing who she was, quickly let go of Adele and apologized.

Adele, who realized that he was Paul, waved her hand.

“No. I was just surprised when you suddenly showed up.”

In the meantime, Christine approached him.

“You must be off duty, so why are you here?”

“That’s... I’m just meeting someone for a bit.”

“The woman you said you were seeing recently?”

“Oh, yes.”

“Judging from the fact that you met in this forest, is she from the palace?”

“It’s hard to tell yet.”

Christine, who had been staring at Paul with sharp eyes, nodded his head.

“Understood. Let’s go.”

Even as Paul quickly said goodbye and left the forest, Christine’s expression did not soften.

“Why?”

When Adele asked in surprise, he answered carefully.

“The woman Paul is seeing, I feel like I know her.”

“The woman you know? Who?”

The morning of the bazaar, Adele’s mansion.

Adele had been busy since dawn.

She had to pack and move the desserts and cookies she had prepared a few days before. Since all the store clerks had quit, Tanya and Mia helped her instead.

Mia and Mark had been estranged for a while because of their relationship, but they reconciled while taking care of Jade and preparing for the bazaar.

“Are you done loading everything?”

Mia asked, looking at the boxes loaded onto the carriage.

“Yeah, we’re done.”

Adele, wearing a mint-colored dress that matched the spring weather, came out to the front of the carriage holding a white box.

Aaron followed her.

“Can’t Aaron go too?”

“I’m sorry, but no.”

Adele flatly refused.

Today’s bazaar was very dangerous.

The wolf clan controlled by the rebel priests might slaughter the citizens.

If Christine didn’t subdue them early, there would be tens or hundreds of victims like Jade.

Adele was a little scared, even though she looked brave.

But the child didn’t give up easily.

“Why? We went last time, and the time before, when Aaron was younger.”

“Jade and Pauline came with us then. But if Aaron comes alone today, Jade will be disappointed.”

Fortunately, it seemed like his words had worked.

Aaron asked with a sullen look on his face,

“Then, when Jade wakes up, can I go with him?”

Mark came over and hugged Aaron tightly.

“Yes, when Jade wakes up, let’s all go together.”

Then he hugged Adele and whispered,

“Be careful, Adele.”

His voice was filled with worry. He knew what was going to happen today.

“Don’t worry. And keep the children safe.”

“Hmm.”

When Adele got into the carriage, Leana was waiting.

With her hair tied in a ponytail, she looked cheerful as always.

“Paul and I will be in charge of Adele’s escort today.”

“And you, Leana?”

“That’s so sudden. Do you know how much His Majesty cherishes Adele?”

“Yes, you're very reliable.”

Leana said seriously and solemnly.

“But keep in mind. I will protect Adele with my life, but I also have to protect myself.”

“Of course, Leana. I will do my best, so let’s do our best.”

“It somehow sounds like Adele is saying you will protect me.”

Instead of answering, Adele opened the lid of the white box she was holding.

Leana's eyes widened as she watched indifferently.

"That's not it?"

"Yes, I got it as a gift from His Majesty. Isn't it pretty?"

It was a pistol that Adele had already owned, and Christine had given it back to her after improving its performance.

"Do you know how to shoot it?"

Instead of answering, Adele twirled the pistol with her fingers and put it in the pocket attached to her garter. She was very skilled at that.

"From now on, call me the world's strongest gunfighter."

"What, childishly..."

"As much as the world's strongest wizard?"

Leana, who had been frowning, eventually burst into laughter, and Adele laughed along.

In the meantime, the carriage continued on toward the bazaar without stopping.

It would not be an exaggeration to say that this bazaar was unprecedented in scale.

Dozens of vendors were set up on the lawn of the cathedral square, and numerous people were preparing to perform on the central stage set up next to the fountain.

Excited children were already running around on the lawn, and citizens who were looking forward to the event on a bright spring day gathered one by one to watch.

As if to reassure them, the Kalime Capital Guard and the Emperor’s WG Knights were standing guard at the entrance to the venue.

They checked the IDs and belongings of the visitors, and everyone complied with the strict procedures.

In addition, a large number of troops were waiting in the middle of the venue.

It was a thoroughly prepared event for anyone.

And on top of the cathedral’s tall bell tower stood two men and women with their robes’ hoods pulled down low.

They were sharply observing the people moving under the green lawn.

“The troop deployment is as reported in the data.”

The man, who was looking down at the situation at the venue, pushed back the hood he was wearing on his head.

His thin face looked particularly pale due to his black hair, giving him the appearance of a sickly boy.

However, he was none other than Maurice, who led the rebel priests’ organization and was the only one who opposed Christine.

“Of course. It was quite a struggle to lure that monstrous man out.”

“Thank you for your hard work, Lady Seira.”

Contrary to the many rumors, Seira was helping the rebel priests.

She was better known internally as Maurice’s mistress.
