Lady Edita - Chapter 9

"He said he would never let me go."

"Oh, oh, oh! Why is this!"

Madame Marie laughed out loud, as if she could see the uvula. I looked at Madam Marie with deep eyes.

This was the only thing I could say to her, who persistently asked what had happened when I was alone, so I was prepared to misunderstand. But when I saw it with my own eyes, I just wanted to hide under the ground.

'What the hell is going on here?'

After Madam Marie left the room, I lay alone in bed and couldn't sleep. There was no way I could fall asleep.

"Never Let Me Go Now."

His eyes were still shining. He was hot and angry, and he was cold and wet. What the hell is that? What was that?

It was clear that there was something between Edita and Brandt in the past, but it was too hard to understand the subtle emotion that was neither good nor hateful.

'What does it mean not to let me go?'

"I won't let you go for hurting me, and I'll take revenge until I die!" Or "You hurt me, but I love you so much that I can't let you go!"

'Whichever of the two is right, my life will have no answer.'

I felt like I was going crazy, so I wrapped myself in the blanket and kicked mercilessly. Even though I was making a fuss until my hair was scattered and the blanket finally fell to the floor, I felt suffocated.

I couldn't just lie there and wait for the approaching tsunami to hit me. Either I had to jump into the pond tomorrow or change the situation.

I couldn't let my life get tangled up like this, with no idea when I would return home.

I walked over to the table and lit a candle. I was going to write a letter to Brandt.

'But did I know how to write here?'

At some point, I was able to speak and read at some point, so I thought that writing would be the same, so I put my fountain pen on the paper.

[ To Prince Albenovic ]

With the sound of the nib of the square stand, the first writing in this world was completed. The first handwriting I wrote in this world was 'To Prince Albenovic.' I felt strange.

I felt like I had entangled myself with him without being able to take anything away.

'No, it can't be!'

I shook my head vigorously, trying to erase the foreboding thoughts that came to my mind for a moment.

Anyway, I started writing to him to make my life right. It was a calm but vehement appeal.

I'm sorry that I unintentionally hurt you. We haven't even had an engagement ceremony yet, so let's take our time and try to understand each other. I want to get along with you.

Well, it was roughly like that. When I saw the letter written with a brush stroke, I smiled proudly. Perhaps because of my early morning sensibility, I thought that I had written the most perfect and poetic letter in the world.

I sealed the letter in an envelope and put it on the table, and then I lay down on the bed again. As I slipped into the soft bed, I sighed as if I had pressed a switch.

They liked Edita as the Emperor's daughter, but her mother's blood is lowly, so she is only checked by real Princesses and aristocratic girls, let alone Princesses, and she is engaged to the best Duke of the empire.

Still, I couldn't live depressed because of the past I didn't make. I wanted to get engaged to him, and I wanted to get along well.

Or plunge into the pond!

The next morning. I started my day screaming when I saw that the envelope I had left on the table was gone.

Madame Marie, who rushed up thinking something was wrong, laughed when she realized the situation belatedly.

"I sent it because the outer envelope said 'To Prince Albrenovic."

"Why did you send it without asking me?"

"I sent it to Jab because I was afraid that you woke up, you would change your mind."

Oh, this lady knows what I have written!

"How much progress has been made in your relationship that you thought of writing a letter as soon as you had lunch?"

"That... It's not that. This is a really serious problem, Madam Marie!"

"You don't have to say anything to know everything."

Madam Marie patted me on the shoulder in despair.

She doesn't know my mind as much as ant poop. As soon as I woke up, I remembered that letter because I remembered that I had made a lot of cringing comments last night in the early morning of morning.

Alas... Now it's all wrong. Brandt will laugh at my childish letter. No. It's good if he laughs at me, but what if he picks up a letter and throws it at me, asking if I'm deceiving him again with such childish writing?

"That's how it all starts at first. Hohohoho."

I didn't care that I was desperate, and Madame Marie still had a pale face.

For several days, there was no answer from Brandt. Is no news good news, or is he trying to strike a blow by letting my guard down?

I sighed in frustration, and the mirror in front of me turned white. After a while, the steam in the mirror disappeared, and a fresh blonde woman appeared.

"Do you really want to do this?"

The maid in charge of the head asked as if she couldn't understand.

"Isn't it pretty?"

"..."

I had not yet adapted to the aesthetic consciousness of people in this world, and the maid gave me the answer in silence. She must not have adapted to my sense of beauty either.

But I liked Edita in the mirror so much now.

Instead of my hair rising up like a mountain, I wore beautiful blonde hair in braids and wore it neatly. Of course, to compromise with the maid in charge of my hair, she also put some burdensome ornaments on my head. But when she put it on, it looked better than I expected.

'Basically, it's a face, so it's pretty no matter what you do.'

In particular, the canary ornaments were cute at first, and I thought, 'How do you put that on your head?' Except for the fact that when you press the wings, you get a real singing sound.

"Lady!"

There was another mountain to climb to achieve this Idea. It was the nanny. Madame Marle, who called my name with a disgruntled face.

"Prince Albenovic likes a simple style."

Of course, it was easier to climb the mountain than to climb the hill in the garden.

"Come to think of it. I'm a very frugal person."

I guess so.

But today, without hesitation, I wore that horrible corset and pannier, which was like a torture device. The clothes of this world have become unnecessarily fancy and cumbersome, but once they are worn, I have to admit that they are beautiful. The women here dressed like ladies who had their best days every day. But today was the first day rather than the best day for me.

In Ludenbach, the Emperor always had a meeting of the Privy Council to a dinner to which the influential nobles were invited. Lady Edita was attending that dinner for the first time today.

Although it was a meeting of the Privy Council, in reality, it was only to listen to the Emperor's opinion unilaterally or to propose an agenda to represent the interests of the nobility, so the dinner party that followed was attended only by influential members of the royal family and nobles related to their interests.

Therefore, even though she was of the Emperor's blood, Edita, a member of the Imperial family on the frontier, did not have a chance to attend. Even if the Emperor wanted to attend, there was no excuse.

However, since she became the fiancée of Duke Brandt, Duke Albenovic, the president of the Privy Council, the story changed.

I trembled as I walked toward the main palace where the dinner was held. I was excited and nervous about attending for the first time, but what put me under pressure the most was the letter I sent to Brandt.

It was the first time I had seen Brandt since I had written to him. Anticipation and fear of how he would react pounded in my chest.

There were already many members of the royal family and nobles in the banquet hall. The only faces I knew were Prince Fabio, Princess Lena, and Lady Zita, an aristocratic young lady who had been confronted by Princess Lena.

Madame Marie led me to the place where the dinner was being held and stepped back. From now on, I had to do it myself.

'I was the one who escaped from the villa alone and came to the Saint Rejean palace. I can do it!'

I knew that waiting for someone to come to Edita was useless, so I walked straight up to Princess Lena. She didn't expect me to come to her first, and Princess Lena's face turned cold. The more I did that, the brighter I smiled and greeted her.

"See you again, Your Highness."

"Nice to meet you, Lady Edita."

People's eyes were on me and on Princess Lena. Rumors about what happened in Liesel's garden were already spreading. Even though that happened, the sight of Lady Edita, who was always quiet, approached with a smile on her face and greeted Princess Lena first, which was enough to attract everyone's attention.

The little Princess, who had grown up to be precious, was worried about how to treat me. She was bold when she attacked, but when I came out like this, she seemed to be embarrassed.

But for me, this was the end of my work with her. I had to approach first and greet confidently to gain the upper hand, get people's attention, and then get out.

Lady Edita was in a position where she could be silent more deeply than anyone else if she wanted to be silent, and she could get more attention than anyone else if she wanted to be noticed.

"But Lady, didn't you come wearing fewer headdresses?"

Just as I was about to turn around, Princess Lena said with a sigh of nervousness. I was surprised that she was embarrassed but did not hesitate to attack her opponent. On the one hand, I wanted to give her a compliment, but now I had to fight back.

"Since it was my first debut at the Privy Council dinner, I thought it was right to show my usual frugal appearance rather than raising my hair, so I did this. As a woman, I thought that adornment was important, but dignity was more important. Do you have anything else to say about my style?"

I wanted to ask them why they were being tortured on the head for money, but I didn't say anything because it would hurt their delicate hearts.

But to be honest, I thought Princess Lena's hair with a water mill on her head was more strange than my simple hair. She was dressed excessively with her neckline collar up, so the water mill stood out more.

Turning your hair up like a mountain is not a court etiquette, it's just a fashion, so Lena couldn't catch the pod when I said that I emphasized "frugality" and "dignity".

You can curse me from behind, but that's all you can say from behind? I didn't have to worry about each one.

The dinner was about to begin, so I was guided to my seat. On the right side of the Emperor were the seats of Prince Fabio and Princess Lena, and on the left was the seat of Brandt, the president of the Privy Council. Originally, I was supposed to sit next to Princess Lena, but now that I am engaged to Brandt. I am led to a seat next to him. Even though Brandt hadn't come yet, I was already nervous.

"Lady?"

"Yes?

I was trembling, but when someone called my name without warning, I was startled and jumped up. The person who called me was Lady Zita, standing with a surprised face.

"Did I surprise the lady?"

"No, it is not. I was thinking about something else."

Lady Zita smiled softly at my embarrassed appearance.

"Your hair is so beautiful today."

I looked at her in amazement at a compliment I hadn't even expected. She added, as if she was surprised.

"Next time, I want to have dignified hair like a lady. Is it okay?"

"Sure. Whatever."

In fact, the large palm-shaped ornament on Lady Zita's head looked prettier when put down.

"Were you two talking?"

At that time, a kind voice came out and penetrated into Lady Zitta's room. It was Brandt. A gentle smile could be seen on his lips as he dressed in polite black. He dared to turn his head and smile at me, who was frustrated. The sight of his eyes, which were as well-carved as blades, drawing a line, made my heart beat loudly without realizing it.

'Is it the answer to the letter I sent?'

A small hope bloomed in my heart. He was a man who had a very different impression when he was expressionless and when he smiled, so I thought that if we got along, we could get along so well.

Lady Zita was also fascinated by his smile, and her cheeks were red.

"Ah, ah, Prince Albrenovic..."

I felt sorry for her for stuttering. Then, suddenly, I realized that I had stuttered more than she had just been, and my cheeks became gray like hers.

"Your Majesty is coming soon. Go back to your seat."

"Yes, yes...!"

Lady Zita, whose face had turned into a strawberry, ran to her seat. Brandt, who was watching her, said to me.

"You may be seated, Lady."

I took his outstretched hand and sat down. Soon, as he said, the Emperor appeared and the feast began.
