Episode 57. Don't Hate the Silver Wolf
Christine and Stone laughed happily, but Adele, who was stuck between them, felt suffocated by the murderous intent emanating from both sides. It was a murderous atmosphere, as if they were holding swords together and waiting for the moment to stab each other.
Stone was the first to put the sword away. No, it would be more correct to say that he aimed the blade at Adele.
"Well, it wouldn't be bad to get along for a while."
He was still smiling, but Adele felt creepy. A memory from long ago at the Oswalds came to mind.
Stone, whose hobby was hunting, would catch wild animals, tie long ropes to their legs, and let them go. Then the animals would run away with all their might.
However, the moment he pulled the rope, they were dragged helplessly. Every time, the animals resisted until their legs bled to escape. Then, when he became exhausted, resigned, and calm, he opened the cage door that held the beasts and let them out. He repeatedly pulled the rope and enjoyed it.
“Adele, I really like the miserable expressions of those who had once been shining with hope, now dying in despair. It’s so thrilling.”
Stone’s expression was the same as when he said that.
Adele felt like prey trapped in a wide-open cage. She even felt terrified, as if he had tied some kind of rope around her ankles.
That’s probably why she wanted to deny it even more strongly.
“It’s never going to go your way.”
I’d rather die than do that!
“That’s right. I really got my ass kicked today. I’ll be really happy for a while thanks to you two.”
He giggled as if something was so funny, and leaned his face close to Adele’s.
“Oh, I forgot to tell you this. The silver wolf that hurt your mother, you know, might be very close.”
A silver wolf?
Adele's eyes widened.
He glanced at Christine and whispered softly in her ear.
"If you're curious, come visit me anytime, my Adele."
In that moment, Adele realized that she had almost fallen for his trick.
"Get out. Stone Oswald!"
"Then I'll leave you alone today. See you next time."
He politely took off his hat and bowed, then turned around and disappeared.
Adele, who was watching his back, bit her lip in anger.
"I almost fell for that guy's cunning again. A silver wolf..."
"What are you going to do if you really meet a silver wolf?"
Christine's voice was heavy, but Adele didn't notice because she was so focused on Stone.
"What can I do? I'll kill him if I catch him. He's too dangerous for people."
"Isn't it the same for people as for silver wolves?"
When she looked at Christine, his face darkened. But soon she shrugged his shoulders indifferently.
"I just had that thought."
“Well, hunting might have been a means of survival for the wolf...”
Then Adele quickly shook her head.
“No, I don’t want to think about that reason. No matter what anyone says, I can’t forgive the guy who did that to my mother.”
“What’s the clear evidence that the silver wolf did it?”
Adele’s expression hardened.
“You, somehow, seem to be siding with the silver wolf. Now that I think about it, what happened to those wolves earlier? They looked like they had been trained.”
She remembered Christine leading the wolves a little while ago.
He had been mingling with the countless wolves without any sense of awkwardness, but for a moment, he had looked like a wolf. Furthermore, those wild beasts obeyed his orders as if they were his subordinates.
“That’s... because I have experience training wolves on the battlefield.”
Christine quickly explained.
“That’s possible?”
“When soldiers are lacking, beasts are also a great force.”
Adele didn’t agree, but since it was Christine, she decided to believe it.
“So don’t hate wolves too much, Adele.”
He hugged Adele from behind and affectionately rubbed his face against her neck.
As his silver hair tickled the back of her neck, Adele stroked his hair with her fingers. He remained quiet, perhaps because he liked it. He was like a big puppy acting cute, and Adele liked it too.
“I don’t hate wolves. I just hate silver wolves.”
“I guess... that’s right?”
“Huh?”
“Let’s go.”
He released the arm he had been holding Adele with and began to walk ahead of her.
“What’s wrong, you seem colder?”
Adele asked as she followed behind him.
“Are you mad?”
“No.”
“But why are you walking so fast?”
“Because I’m in a hurry.”
“What’s that?”
That was the moment.
Boom!
With a thunderous sound, fireworks shot up high into the dark night sky.
When the long-awaited fireworks began, everyone cheered.
“I’m going to show you my abilities before the fireworks end.”
As if he had never been cold, he winked and made a mischievous, boyish expression.
Adele felt relieved but also had a cool expression.
“You don’t have to see that.”
He whispered secretly.
“I’m thinking of going to a different place today.”
“A different place?”
“The belfry of the palace library. It’s quiet there and you’ll be able to see the fireworks well, so it’s the perfect place to show you my abilities.”
The belfry of the palace library was the oldest and tallest building in the palace. It was also a place where important documents were stored, so no one was allowed to enter.
“You’re crazy! How could you...?”
When Adele was startled, Christine snapped her white forehead with his finger and became serious.
“What are you thinking?”
“Huh?”
“I said we should go up to a high place and watch the fireworks before they end.”
Adele felt like she had been fooled by him and got angry.
“You said you were going to show off your skills?”
“Of course. It’s a place that no one can enter. You can’t get through unless you’re a capable captain of the guards.”
“Oh, really? You have no other purpose than the fireworks? I’m the only trash?”
Christine grinned playfully.
“Well, if my fiancée wants, she can have other purposes.”
“Oh, what did you say?”
“If we don’t go faster, the fireworks will end.”
When Christine held out her hand, Adele glared at her and grabbed her hand.
“Run, Adele!”
He grabbed her hand tightly and started running. Adele, not wanting to give up, grabbed the hem of her skirt and ran after her.
Her breath hitched in her throat, but the corners of her mouth kept going up without her knowing it. It felt like there were only Christine and she in the crowd.
Was the coolness he showed just a moment ago just an illusion?
Was the silver wolf Stone had mentioned just bait?
Adele decided to forget about any other thoughts for now. She was not satisfied with enjoying this happiness.
“Just let it go, Chris.”
“Just hold on a little longer.”
“You fool, I’m just worried that you’ll have a hard time, not me.”
“It’s not hard at all.”
“Do you know that you’re the real stubborn one?”
Adele scolded Christine, wiping the sweat that had formed on his forehead with her hand.
Perhaps frustrated by her running speed, he ended up running all the way to the bell tower while holding Adele in his arms. He also ran up the spiral staircase without stopping.
The speed was so fast that Adele felt dizzy just from being held in his arms. It felt like riding a winged horse.
No matter how much he had lived on the battlefield, this was not the speed and stamina that a human could have. After all, he had been incredibly agile and strong since he was young.
“Yes, this would be good.”
The place where he dropped Adele off was a landing with a large arched window.
Even though it was about halfway up the bell tower, looking down the spiral railing was dizzying.
It was the moment Christine opened the window wide.
Whoosh!
Fireworks shot up high into the sky, filling the night sky with dazzling beauty.
Adele let out a scream and a shout at the same time as the enormous fireworks rushed right in front of her.
“Ahh! Ah... Wow!”
Christine giggled next to her, as if he couldn’t hold back his laughter.
“Why are you laughing?”
“Just because you’re cute.” “
Don’t keep doing that. It makes me want to act even cuter.”
“You can do it in front of me.”
He hugged Adele from behind as if wrapping his arms around her. Adele felt relieved because his chest against her back was as solid as a wall.
“You’re really pretty.”
She muttered as she stared blankly at the ever-changing fireworks.
“Do you like it that much?”
“Actually, it’s my first time seeing fireworks.”
Every year, the equestrian competition ended with fireworks. Half of the citizens of Kalime would gather around the palace to watch this.
Every time Mia and Tanya would ask Adele to go with them, she refused. She was afraid to leave the house.
But now no one calls her a villain. On the contrary, some even cheered her on. And now, Christine was by her side.
A man who was like a safe fortress and a strong wall.
“I’m really happy...”
Pfft! Pfft!
A large firework lit up the night sky and illuminated Adele’s face. The dazzling fireworks flickered in her eyes, her cheeks red.
There were moments in life that we wanted to remember forever. Moments that we wanted to keep in the bookshelf of our memories, moments that we could open when we were tired or having a hard time, and find the strength to live again.
Maybe those were the greatest assets of our lives.
For Christine, Adele was in all those happy moments.
And even now.
Pfft!
The largest fireworks she had ever seen filled the sky. Each spark created another small firework, and hundreds of flowers bloomed brilliantly.
People could be heard shouting from below. Children screamed joyfully and ran around.
And then the fireworks were all over.
The people who had finished the splendid play began to leave one by one, feeling regretful.
Wooooong...
The sound of the cool wind and the darkness that had deepened filled the night sky.
Christine also closed the window without any regrets.
However, Adele still did not know how to leave the window.
“It’s over, Adele.”
Adele looked back with reddened eyes.
“What’s wrong?”
She smiled awkwardly at him, who asked in surprise.
“I don’t know. The end of the festival seems so lonely.”
“That’s right. But our festival isn’t over yet.”
In Adele’s green eyes, he was smiling like a sly beast.
At that moment, some kind of passion surged through her, and Adele lifted her toes and hugged his neck tightly.
There was no need to say who would go first. Their lips found each other familiarly.
Adele prayed in her heart and pushed again.
May these times with him not be like a short festival.
Every day was as happy as a splendid festival, and an unknown fear came over her.
“What are you thinking?”
“Huh?”

“Ugh, gently.. take it off..."
“Stop joking around and take that off, too.”
“Wow, you dirty woman. How can you say that without being embarrassed?”
“Oh really? I didn’t tell you that I could take it off if you don’t take it off quickly.”
As Adele approached her, rolling up her sleeves, Christine flinched back, pretending to be scared.
“Yes, yes. If you really want it, I’ll take it off.”
Then she unbuttoned his shirt.
With each button she unbuttoned, his firm chest and well-toned abs became more and more apparent.
Adele felt a little embarrassed and pretended to rip off the outerwear that she was holding. It was a perfect body that made her blush every time she saw it.
“Now, do whatever you want.”
Christine threw the shirt she had taken off onto the sofa and smiled as if he only wanted Adele to do something about it. His figure, completely revealing his sculpted upper body, was so tempting that she couldn’t take her eyes off of him.
But Adele was surprised and approached him with a frown, and eventually got angry.
“I can’t live like this. Is this the time to be fooling around? Hurry up and sit on the sofa!”
