Forgotten Fields - Chapter 43

I stared at the dark figure in the light of the setting sun with my eyes blank.

Its massive body, wrapped in scales, soared high like a volcano on the verge of erupting lava. At the top, a huge reptilian head stared down at us, its red eyes flashing.

My legs gave up, and I slumped down. The monster snorted hotly and spread its wings wide, surrounded by a black film, and the whole world seemed to be enveloped in darkness.

Barcas drew his sword and shouted in a shrill voice.

"Prepare your subjugation equipment right now!"

Before his order fell, the knights rushed out from among the scattered people.

They surrounded the monster and drove something like an iron stake into the ground, and then attached a thick chain to the end. Soon, dozens of steel harpoons flew like arrows at the monster's massive body.

I covered my ears. A loud roar erupted from the mouth of the monster with its head raised high.

The ground shook with each violent twisting of the heavy body bound by dozens of chains, and a few stakes that could not withstand the force bounced into the air.

"Everyone!"

At the same time, as someone's cry rang out, the monster that had broken the rest of the reins swung one wing violently.

I screamed. A couple of tents were swept away by the monster's wings, and five or six unprepared servants were thrown out like pieces of paper.

The body of one of them tumbled down near me, twisted at odd angles. It was as if I were living a nightmare.

"Bring more gear!"

Barcas harsh voice barely held on to my consciousness as it was about to fade. I managed to pull myself up with my trembling legs. I watched with a spirit of panic as Barcas rushed toward the rampaging monster.

He was charging toward the monster's enormous maw, which seemed to be well over 30 kvets (about 9 meters) in size.

"Barcas!"

His name screamed from my mouth, and the monster's wings flew like a whip toward Barcas.

I looked at the scene with terrified eyes.

Black wings the size of the sky covered Barcas' body in an instant. My world was also dyed black. But the next moment, the pale blade in Barcas' hand tore through the thick film of paper.

In an instant, Barcas cut off the monster's wings horizontally and cut off the thick bundle of muscles that connected to the torso.

In the blink of an eye, the monster lost one of its wings and lost its balance, and stumbled wildly.

Taking no chance, Barcas pulled a chainsickle from his waistband and plunged the hook-shaped blade into the hideous maw full of awl-like teeth. Then he slid sideways, attached the chains to the stakes fixed to the ground, and maliciously pulled the chains.

Then the monster, with its lower jaw pierced by a chain scythe, fell down like a fish caught on a hook. The unbelievable strength that came from a slender and slender body like a dancer made me open my mouth stunningly.

Barcas clasped the chains in his hands and shouted at his men.

"Hurry up and deal with it!"

Soon, dozens of harpoons landed in the monster's body.

The beast, covered in black scales, wriggled its house-sized body and resisted desperately, but it was helpless against the onslaught of fierce attacks.

In an instant, the hedgehog-like monster stretched out its tongue and hung limp on the floor. Only then could I let out the breath I had been holding back.

"Are you okay?"

The guard knight rushed over from nowhere and looked down at me with concern. Apparently, he had rushed to the battle scene while searching for me, and he also had a sword in his hand.

The man hurriedly pushed it into the sheath and reached out to help me up.

I slammed his hand away violently and stepped to Barcas side, where he was retrieving equipment from the monster's body.

Barcas wrapped his loose chains in one hand, glanced his eyes up and down at me. Even with the dry gaze that seemed to check the condition of the item he had taken care of, he didn't feel angry at that moment. I asked nervously.

"Uh... It's all right? Are you hurt?"

I looked closely at him with trembling eyes and saw a dark red blood stain on the nape of his neck.

I reached out and touched his neck. Fortunately, it didn't seem to be Barcas blood. As I breathed a sigh of relief, the top of my head suddenly tingled.

I raised her gaze and saw Barcas looking down at me with slightly dilated eyes, and hurriedly lowered my arms.

Sweat welled up from his pores at his silence. He wonders if the woman who used to hit him in the face or throw things at him on a bad day is now pretending to be worried. I, who was confused and confused, muttered as if I was making an excuse.

"Uh... If someone you've known for nearly ten years happens in front of you, your dreams will become wild. I don't want to have nightmares because of you."

"...I will not appear in your dreams, which is fortunate."

For some reason, I felt relieved by his usual bitter reply.

I was so rigid that my shoulders slumped as I complained of dull pain.

Just as Barcas was about to say something, we heard another scream in the distance. I turned my head and took a heavy breath. Dark monsters covered the sky.

The guard muttered with a stunned face.

"Why the Wyvern group at this time..."

"Bring out your subjugation equipment when you're curious about that! Your Highness, please come over here."

Barcas quickly regained his composure, gave the instructions in a shrill voice, grabbed my wrists, and strode across the camp.

I sat close to his back, moving my legs so that the soles of my feet were on fire. There was a smell of blood and flames everywhere.

Mess. The long-awaited mess finally happened.

However, I couldn't feel any joy. Only a frozen fear roamed in my blood.

"Lord Sheerkhan! We have put up a defensive wall over there!"

As I watched with devastation as the monsters smashed the tents and other chariot trucks, someone shouted loudly.

Barcas immediately turned to it.

"Never get out of here."

Half-mesmerized, Barcas led me to the middle of the camp and spoke in a firm tone.

I turned my head to look around. A group of people took refuge in front of dozens of wagons lined up like a barrier.

"There are defensive magic tools installed in the wagons. You'll be safe here."

"What are you going to do?"

Barcas slipped my question into one ear and turned away.

I grabbed him urgently.

"Are you crazy? Where are you going?"

"Defensive magic lasts only a short time. We need to deal with the monsters before then."

Pulling my hand away firmly, Barcas rushed to the place where the brawl was taking place.

I, who was staring at his back in a daze, chased after him frantically.

"No! Don't go! Barcas! Barcas!"
