Forgotten Fields - Chapter 34

But the door didn't move.

I, who pulled the doorknob several times, gritted my teeth when I realized that she had hung a latch from the inside.

'Bloody Ayla...'

The anger that had been suppressed all night boiled over as if it was about to explode.

I chewed my blood-scabbed lips and stared at the tightly closed door, then turned away.

It may be a good thing. If I did something impulsively without any preparation and failed, wouldn't I be the only one who would be killed?

We need to prepare more thoroughly before putting it into practice. There is still a long way to go, so we will be able to seize the opportunity soon.

I cleared my breath and walked quickly out of the hallway. I was about to go down the stairs to my room when I heard a rattling sound coming from somewhere.

I hurriedly hid behind a pillar.

I could see a faint shadow hanging over the hallway where the light of dawn had begun to shine in.

Hiding in the darkness, I carefully poked my head out to examine the hallway. A woman with a slender physique stood in front of the door of the room next to where I was staying.

I squinted and studied her face. She was a middle-aged woman with dark brown hair and slender features.

It was much later that I recognized that she was one of my mother's attendants.

The woman cautiously closed the door, put a dark brown hood over her head, and walked silently out of the hallway. I stared at her backside and soon chased after her.

The woman walked out of the building and quickly walked out onto the muddy dirt road with puddles of water. Judging by her astute movements, she looked like she had been trained in intelligence.

The woman, who had been looking around carefully, stopped near a small sponsorship at the back of the main building.

I hid behind an arcade pillar and stole a peek at the woman. The woman, who had been lingering in front of the gazebo for a long time, as if waiting for someone, noticed something and walked quickly.

I followed her movements and narrowed my eyes when I spotted a priest in a black robe slowly walking out of the darkness.

Judging from the familiar face, it seemed that he was one of the monks who attended the dinner party.

The monk, who looked to be about forty, took out a small vial from his bosom and handed it to the woman. The woman who took it opened the lid to check the contents, closed the stopper again, and tucked it into the sleeve of the robe. Then she turned around and began to walk back the way she had come.

I hurriedly ran towards the building.

As I hurriedly climbed the stairs and jumped into the bedroom, my legs lost strength.

Leaning back against the door to catch my breath, I listened to the voices outside. After a while, I heard the sound of the door opening and closing, and my surroundings became silent as if they were dead.

I swallowed dryly.

I didn't know exactly what I saw.

What was the investigation?

Is it a helper of my mother's breath? If so, what was he handed over? Could it be that they are planning to poison him?
I struggled to spit down my tight throat.

If it was poison. It could be obtained without the help of outsiders. If it had to be obtained through such a complicated method, it would not even be possible to bring it into the capital.

'What the hell are they plotting?'

I made a lot of guesses in my head. However, a clear picture has not been drawn

'Obviously, something big is going to happen.'

Senevere has to do whatever she sets her mind to. If she had made up her mind to get rid of the old saboteurs, the Prince would have already died. If I'm lucky, Ayla will disappear from this world.

Feeling my heart beating wildly with excitement, I had a satisfied smile on my lips.

***

The long and tedious journey began again.

A bodyguard of hundreds of knights and infantry moved silently under the intense sun. At this rate, it will be possible to cross the border of the old Osirian kingdom in ten days.

Edrick Lubon opened the map and estimated the remaining distance, but he turned his head to look at the carriage, which was as quiet as a coffin.

The Princess was always in the window with a thick curtain over her.

He drove his horse to the side of the wagon and carefully examined the faint shadows on the curtains. Even the horses were gasping for breath in the sweltering heat. He wondered what would happen if she were found dead in the carriage.

"Your Highness, why don't you ventilate for a while?"

"...Get out of here."

Fortunately, she seemed to be breathing.

With a small sigh, Edrick rode his horse to the front.

At the forefront was the Crown Prince, seated on a golden horse from Mount Norneck, as usual.

Edrick carefully studied his face. Gareth was annoyed with Lord Sheacan with a red-hot face, and at first glance, he seemed to be asking when he could rest.

"It won't be an easy journey."

For the next few days, there will be harsh fields and mountains that are nothing short of wasteland. Can the picky Crown Prince endure such an arduous journey?

Edrick shook his head and stepped closer to Barcas.

His superior listened to the Prince's complaints and looked at the road with a curious look. He didn't even seem to care what the next master of the empire was talking about.

Impressed by his superior's attitude, Edrick spoke cautiously

"Lord Sheerkhan, it seems that the soldiers are very tired from the heat. It's a little early, but why don't you find a suitable place and take a break?"

Barcas was driving his horse forward, silently looking ahead, and turned to him.

Edrick strained his body without realizing it. Not once had he ever seen this man get excited or raise his voice. Nevertheless, Edrick always felt a strange pressure in front of Barcas.

He swallowed dry saliva and added.

"Forgive me if it was a presumptuous offer. It seems that the rear ranks are falling behind...."

"Half a mile away, you will find a lake. We'll rest there."

Barcas cut off his horse's tail. Edrick looked at him with bare eyes for a moment, then shook his head. The Crown Prince, who was watching the situation as if he didn't like it, grumbled loudly.

"You don't even pretend to listen when I talk, but do you listen to that kid?"

"You didn't seem to need my answer, so I kept my mouth shut, but I listened carefully to everything Your Highness said."

"I don't need an answer!"

The Crown Prince shouted loudly. His voice sounded like a big man, and his eardrums went numb.

Edrick held back the urge to kick his tongue and moved back to the rear. It was a bit strange that the Crown Prince, who was notorious for his fiery temper, would become like a foolish child in front of Lord Sheerkan.

'...I'm worried about Lord Sheerkhan's departure from the Templars.'

When Barcas Laedgo Sheerkhan leaves for the East, there is no one left who can stop his runaway. The First Princess will also follow Barcas to the East, leaving only Gareth and Talia Roem Guirta in the imperial family.

Thinking about the future of the Templars, who would have to endure the two ruthless imperial families, seemed to darken their eyes. With a heavy sigh, he stepped to the side of Talia's carriage.

After a while, he heard a whistle from the front to signal a break.

Edrick stopped his horse and instructed his men to pitch their tents in a suitable place. The knights immediately set up a simple field tent on the flat land to create shade.

He stopped the carriage near it and tapped lightly against the window

"It's time for a break. Stop coming out now."

"..."

"How long are you going to be stubborn? You stayed in it all day. If you don't do it properly, you'll collapse."

He thought he would have to pull her out even if he was beaten, so he spat it out roughly, but he didn't hear any response from inside.

Edrick furrowed his brows.

Did she really fall?

With an ominous premonition, he threw the door open rather harshly. Then, with a sweet scent that seemed to be a mixture of honey and milk, the hot air blew on his face.

Edrick looked into the dark carriage and froze when he saw the Princess lying on the floor.
