It Doesn't Matter, Love - Chapter 16

015. I also wish

The stable was completed in exactly one week.

Beppy was in the final stage of building the fence. Emilia couldn't help but be amazed at the nailing that was so fast and accurate, it was almost miraculous.

“That’s great, sir.”

“Beppy is a master builder. So was Laura. Beppy is as good at building houses as a seamstress.”

“Oh, by the way, I’m talking about your younger sister.”

Beppy made a 'Why?' expression.

“What if we do this? I’ve been thinking about it for a while... What if I ask Lord Meyer to save your younger sister first?”

“Oops!”

He suddenly hit his forehead with his hand.

“Laura found a new home. She found a new job.”

Emilia was momentarily confused. New house, new job... Could this mean that Laura had already come out of the brothel?

“Laura invites Emilia to the sit-down. Laura is an apple pie maker.”

“Are you saying that your sister has already come back?”

“Hardy gave it to me. In Tranco.”

Emilia's mouth opened in surprise.

“Ah... really... thank goodness. Really...”

“Laura invites Emilia. Laura is an apple pie maker.”

“She invited me? Your sister?”

Beppy nodded.

“Oh, that’s really great, sir. But... I wonder if I can really accept her invitation...”

If his sister had just escaped from some dangerous place like Tranco or something, it would be hard to pull herself together physically and mentally.

Beppy, not knowing whether she knew what was going on or not, repeated “She invite you” and “Laura is an expert at making apple pie” like a parrot.

“Yes, I got it. I’ll think about it.”

The moment Emilia answered, Brave, who had been leisurely licking his paw, suddenly perked up his ears and started barking madly. A cloud of dust was rising from the forest path in the distance.

...a carriage.

A typical noble lady's item, with a pure white body and gold leaf.

No way...

Emilia was startled when she noticed Beppy's hand slowly reaching for the axe.

"Sir?"

“If you’re a bad person, I’ll punish you.”

Emilia was a little shocked at the sight of Beppy walking away. There was no way someone riding such a fancy carriage in broad daylight could be a robber.

“Oh, no...”

The moment she stood in front of Beppy as if to stop him, the carriage arrived.

Emilia felt embarrassed once again. The carriage and the coachman looked somehow familiar. The door opened, and a noblewoman appeared, standing up straight.

Kaitlyn Meyer, Hadius' mother.

As Hadrdius had warned, that woman had really come here.

Emilia, frozen in surprise, noticed that Beppy still had not let go of the axe handle.

“Oh, sir, don’t worry. She is Lord Meyer’s mother. She is not a strange person.”

“I know.”

“You know?”

At that moment, Kaitlyn Meyer got out of the carriage.

“This isn’t just the countryside, it’s completely remote.”

She muttered as she unfolded her fan.

“I’m sorry for suddenly visiting you without notice.”

The groom spread out a long piece of walking carpet to protect her silk shoes.

Emilia quickly turned to Beppy. He had put down the axe and was bowing his head toward his master.

As she stared at the huge back, she felt strange for no reason.

“How have you been?”

Emilia came to her senses at the affectionate greeting. If it weren't for the 'Breakup Agreement', she would have greeted her politely first.

But Emilia had no desire to do that anymore.

“What brings you here?”

The middle-aged woman's body stopped at the cold voice. Then she smiled softly and approached again.

“Can you spare some time? We can talk.”

Kaitlyn asked, glancing at Beppy, who was standing next to Emilia. Her searching gaze drifted from the stables, horses, and carriages that were being completed, to the old house over their shoulders. Then she turned back to Beppy.

“Are you the groom? The one sent by Hardius?”

Bepppy just hung his head and remained strangely silent. Even stranger was Kaitlyn. She suddenly looked apologetic.

“No matter what, it was too much to assign a person like that as a worker, even though he was my son. I will apologize on his behalf.”

Emilia kept her mouth shut and remained silent.

“Considering all the hardships you’ve gone through, a carriage isn’t enough. I wish I could build you a new house in a nice place.”

For a moment, Emilia's mind snapped to its senses.

Don't be fooled. That woman couldn't possibly have come here to apologize. If you're not careful, your whole family could be kicked out of here.

“I heard from the young master that I must make it seem like I am keeping my engagement until I receive His Majesty the King’s permission. Don’t worry, I have no intention of disobeying the King’s orders either. So you don’t have to say things you don’t mean.”

The faint smile on Kaitlyn's face wavered for a moment.

“What exactly do you want? I don’t want to have a long talk with Madam. Get to the point. Are you here because of the broken engagement?”

Kaitlyn stared at Emilia without losing her gentle mask.

“Of course, I will cooperate. I will even sign the dissolution agreement. Lord Meyer said he wanted freedom, and that is exactly what I want. However, there is a condition.”

"Condition?"

“If you really want to kick us out of here, I will never sign. I will fight it no matter what, even if it means putting everything I have on the line.”

She expected Kaitlyn to react, either angrily or laughing. But strangely, there was no response from her.

“Don’t put me in a corner. You’ve done everything you wanted for the past five years.”

“..”

“There’s only one thing I wish for. Just let me live here after the engagement is broken off. If you’re even signing an agreement, don’t you think Madam wants to end the engagement peacefully?”

At that moment, she felt like crying. Emilia put all her strength into her eyes.

“I don’t understand why you’re being so cruel. I don’t need compensation or anything... I just want to live quietly and get along...”

Only then was Kaitlyn sure.
