WYMYEB - Chapter 28

After the long prayer, the question the priest asked brought me to my senses.

I strained my ears and waited for Kishian's answer.

I was curious to see how Kishian would answer the question of whether he would swear to love me forever.

Of course, the answer was obvious.

Since he is the one who decided to take me as his bride, he would naturally answer that he will swear.

What I was wondering was something else.

What kind of face and voice would a man who hates me rather than loves me have as he swears false oaths before God?

I was very curious about that.

So I opened my ears, turned my gaze slightly to the side, and observed Kishian's expression.

At last, his lips opened, and a false oath flowed out.

"Yes, I swear."

When I heard that answer, I couldn't help but be amazed.

It was a voice so pious that anyone who didn't know would be completely fooled.

A plous voice that seemed to be free of even the slightest hint of falsehood.

His expression, which I glanced at, was the same.

I couldn't find a trace of the cold ridicule he usually showed me.

Thanks to that, one corner of my heart felt a new sense of ache.

In the meantime, the old priest's gaze turned towards me.

"Do you swear to love your husband forever?"

"...I swear."

Unlike Kishian, who didn't waste much time, I hesitated a little longer before opening my mouth.

Because I'm not as good of a liar as Kishian.

Fortunately, no one seemed to notice the slight hesitation, and the wedding went smoothly.

Soon, a boy who was a distant relative of the Grand Duke of Lennon brought us a small ship.

Kishian put the ring he had inside on me first, and I put the ring on his hand as well.

Even though all this was just a play, the shine of the ring was blindingly beautiful.

So, while I was admiring it for a while, the old priest finally gave his final instructions.

"Let the groom and bride kiss in front of God to prove their love."

I felt people's gazes becoming a little more blatant towards us.

I slowly raised my head and looked at Kishian's face.

He was already looking at me before I even raised my gaze.

The clear golden glow slowly descended from my eyes to the tip of my nose and then to my lips.

I closed my eyes, anticipating what was about to happen.

After waiting a moment, a soft heat finally touched my lips.

"..."

The act of kissing in front of everyone made my heart race so much.

I tried to pull my lips away, fearing that Kishian might hear the sound.

But things didn't go as planned.

As I tilted my head back, his upper body pressed closer to me.

When I tried to back away again, this time he wrapped one arm around my waist.

Kishian opened his eyes shallowly and stared at me with his pure golden eyes.

When I met those eyes, my body didn't move.

As if persistent gazes and heat were entangling my entire body.

Wow!

Fortunately, the loud cheers and applause from the crowd drowned out the sound of my heartbeat.

Only after the sound filled the room so loud that it was painful to the ears did Kishian let go of the waist he was holding onto.

My body shook for a moment as the strength that had been supporting me disappeared.

If he hadn't caught me quickly, I would have definitely stumbled.

As the strength drained from my body, I fell back into Kisshian's arms, and he suddenly asked me a question I could never have imagined.

"Do you want to hug me?"

I just stared at him blankly, wondering what he was talking about, and then answered belatedly.

"... I just lost my balance for a moment. You kissed me for so long."

"If you want to hug me, there's no reason I can't hug you."

After saying something as if he didn't even listen to my answer, he suddenly extended his arm.

My body was lifted into the air without even having time to mentally prepare myself.

"...!"

While I was surprised and hugged his neck, he also adjusted his posture and held me more securely.

As we hugged each other, the cheers of the people filled our ears again.

Waaaaa! Long live His Highness the Grand Duke! Long live Her Highness the Grand Duchess!

As I received the shining gazes and blessings of so many people, I thought to myself again.

He's a really tall guy.

The ground felt distant as I was held in Kishian's arms.

I could also see the faces of the people sitting in the guest seats at a glance.

It was a time when I felt a strange feeling as I looked at those colorful eyes that were focused solely on me.

"How is it? Do you feel a little bit like the main character?"

It was only after hearing the question that Kishian asked that I was able to understand the nature of this strange feeling I had been feeling.

It was a joy.

A refreshing joy, as if you were coming out from under someone's shadow and standing under the bright sunlight for the first time.

"..."

It took a lot of courage to say those words that I had never been able to say before.

So, after moving my lips several times, I was finally able to whisper in his ear what I had been putting off.

"...Thank you."

***

Since we exchanged a kiss of vows in front of everyone, no one could deny that we were a married couple.

But even so, the wedding didn't end here.

As the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess who ruled the North, it was our duty to provide the numerous nobles gathered here with the utmost hospitality.

"Time is running out! You need to change into your evening dress!"

At Madame Bianca's urging, I hurriedly went back to the bedroom and took off my wedding dress.

As soon as I threw off the hem of my skirt, which was as heavy as it was flashy, I felt like I was flying.

Unfortunately, that freedom could not be enjoyed for long.

That was because the maids brought the evening dress they had prepared in advance.

The dress prepared for the reception, fortunately, looked much lighter than the wedding dress, but it was still uncomfortable.

It was a dress that was light and thin but clung to the body and showed off my curves.

"Ha..."

I sighed and put on the evening dress.

When I tried it on, it was as expected, uncomfortable.

It was so splendid and beautiful that I was willing to put up with the inconvenience.

"This dress reminds me of the night sky. It's really beautiful."

As Anne said, the dress resembled the night sky.

It was made of dark blue fabric, and the bottom of the skirt and chest area were decorated with white jewels reminiscent of stars.

Every time I moved my body, the jewels caught the light and sparkled brilliantly.

While I was putting it on and looking at myself in the mirror for a moment, the maids gathered my hair and put it up.

Afterward, a Jewel pin was inserted to secure the golden thread.

After that, they applied the slightly erased makeup more heavily, and finally, they didn't forget to let down a few strands of my hair to emphasize the natural look.

When I looked in the mirror, my style had definitely changed.

Unlike the daytime, when I looked simply classy, I was decked out again and gave off a sophisticated impression suitable for a night party.

I was a little surprised to see how much my appearance had changed just by changing my clothes and makeup.

Anne said as she worked the hair rollers baked in the fireplace into my hair to create natural waves.

"I'm sure you'll be able to capture people's attention with style until the very end."

Certainly, if I appeared in this completely different style from before, everyone would look at me in surprise.

I nodded and looked at the maids who had worked hard for me today.

"Thank you all so much. I will do my best until the end."

After saying that confidently, I held a clutch full of jewels in my hand.

As I came out of the bedroom, Kishian, who had been waiting in the hallway, faced me.

Now that we were officially a couple, I had to show up at the wedding reception with him.

So, I was about to say that it was time to go down to the banquet hall.

"You'd better stay by my side. Don't look at them needlessly."

Kishian, who had been staring at me, suddenly blurted out something like that.

If I give him a simple compliment like, "You look great today." or "Your dress looks good on you." will it make him feel bitter?

I almost saw him again because he was the center of attention on my wedding day, but he was a man I couldn't look at favorably.

I asked crookedly, placing my hand on the arm he extended to escort me.

"I don't know what you mean. Don't look away."

"I don't know. You understood everything, didn't you?"

Kishian suddenly pulled my hand to his mouth.

His lips soon descended upon the wedding ring on my fourth finger.

It was quite a romantic gesture, but the gaze he was looking at me was still extremely sharp.

"It's not just any other day, you just got married today, so I'm telling you not to look at other guys. There are a lot of eyes watching you."
