THIBV - Chapter 163

The police conducted their work in utmost secrecy.

A temporary group was formed, half of whom quickly headed to Nigel Abington's house and half to the Duke of Linchester's farmhouse

As soon as the evidence Michael had spoken of was collected at Nigel's house, the security force hiding near the farmhouse planned to pounce on the Duke.

All those who were assigned important tasks in the provisional organization were members of the neo-royal faction.

The chief of police believed that there was no chance of confidential information being leaked.

But while everyone was busy moving about, one person left his seat secretly.

***

Bridget heard reports that the security forces were on the move.

'That's good.'

Tonight, they will retrieve Queen Beatrice's records.

Bridget believed she could change the future.

"It means that you are the one who creates your own destiny and changes the future."

Seraphina once said that she was definitely the one who could change the future, and that was why she was helping her.

Bridget wore comfortable leather pants and a shirt, with a hood pulled over her face.

Then, as she went out, Millea, who was standing guard at the door, looked at her worriedly.

Bridget informed.

"I intend to go directly to the Duke of Linchester's farmhouse."

"Bridget, we have to leave now."

"Millea, I can't go."

Eric would soon enter the palace.

He was on his way to receive Julian's order to send Millea and Bridget abroad.

Millea was also ordered by Julian to capture Bridget.

The prophecy has not yet been revealed.

If the prophecy were revealed, the palace would be in turmoil.

If they don't leave now, Julian's close associates Bridget and Millea will lose their chance to leave forever and will fall along with Julian's death.

"Don't stop me. Please."

"..."

"There might still be hope. I can't leave it behind."

Millea, who had been conflicted, closed her eyes tightly.

"... Then take Eric with you. If you get attacked by assassins again like last time, it'll be a big problem."

At those words, Bridget paused.

She hugged Millea tightly.

"Millea, I'm fine. You can go with Sir Eric. You have to protect Sir Eric, too. I'll stay and protect Julian."

The she smiled as if to tell her not to worry and turned around.

Millea collapsed behind  Bridget.

No matter how much she thought about it, even Millea wasn't sure if leaving like this was the right thing to do.

Outside the bunker were soldiers with orders to hold Bridget until Eric arrived.

"You cannot go outside."

Julian retrieved the black knight he had planted in Bridget's shadow.

Without any weapons, Bridget would not be able to break through the soldiers.

But there was something he didn't know.

Bridget glanced at the soldiers and then pulled three black knights out of the shadows.

Six black knights who disobeyed Julian's orders were still lurking in Bridget's shadow.

Bridget spoke to the bewildered soldiers.

"If you do not intend to fight me, then step aside. If you keep your mouth shut, I will finish what I have to do and return without His Majesty noticing. No one will be hurt or punished."

The soldiers looked at each other hesitantly.

Their decision was quick.

There was no way a few soldiers could deal with three black knights.

It was either they die here, or they die when Julian finds out.

Bridget reassured the soldiers by pressing her index finger to her lips.

"Shhhh."

She quickly jumped over the palace wall and boarded a carriage secretly waiting outside the palace.

***

Bridget met her contact at the police headquarters near the capital city gates.

Nigel Abington's house received reports that Duke Linchester's farmhouse would soon be searched by the Constabulary, as evidence of corruption was pouring in.

Bridget headed straight for the Duke of Linchester's farmhouse.

Originally, all the documents and records from there would be transferred to the police station, and the plan was to slightly extract only Queen Beatrice's records.

But now there was no time to think about such a procedure.

'I have to find it myself.'

For that purpose, she had even stolen the police uniform.

It was no use if she didn't get it today anyway.

Because the prophecy will be revealed soon.

The carriage ran quickly.

'I can save Julian.'

Bridget held on to her last hope until the very end.

But then the coachman suddenly opened the stall window and shouted.

"You should look out the window!"

Bridget pulled back the curtains and looked outside.

The Duke of Linchester's farmhouse was surrounded on all sides by fields and farmland.

The time when the sun has set and darkness has fallen.

She saw a bright light in the distance.

"Hmmm?"

Bridget rubbed her eyes and stared into the light again.

"...!"

Soon, she opened her eyes wide.

It wasn't a light from the police.

The farmhouse was on fire.

***

A few hours ago, at Lucas Linchester's residence.

"The Constabulary will soon descend upon the Duke of Linchester."

A man wearing a suspicious black cloak spoke on a day when the cold wind had not yet blown.

The police uniform was briefly visible beneath the cloak.

Lucas Linchester sighed.

"Nigel, you pathetic bastard."

Lucas clicked his tongue, but his face was relaxed.

As if he knew this would happen.

He sent out a spy from the police force, called his subordinates, and gave them orders.

"Go to the farm where my father is. Go..."

His eyes became sharp.

"Take everything away."

"Is that all?"

"Yes. All of them. There's nothing to take from there. So just take care of it."

"Yes, I understand."

The subordinate ran out.

Lucas's remaining expression was meaningful.

"I should have done this a long time ago."

It was a carefree expression.

***

"Stop the fire from spreading!"

"Water here!"

The constables who were supposed to be arresting the Duke of Linchester and searching the farmhouse were instead drawing water from the well.

Among people running around busily.

Bridget got out of the carriage and looked at the burning farmhouse in disbelief.

Even though she wasn't wearing the police uniform she had prepared, no one noticed her presence.

"Where is the Duke?"

"I don't know!"

"Are there people inside?"

"There were two maids, but they were rescued!"

"Is it just them? Find out if there are other people inside!"

"Yes!"

The fire started suddenly while the security forces were lying in ambush.

The fire quickly spread through the carpets, curtains, and beds, and despite the initial response, it quickly spread to other areas.

Because it was an old wooden house, it was vulnerable to fire.

The security forces who entered the building to put out the fire were forced to rescue several employees and escape.

The Duke of Linchester was nowhere to be seen.

"Could it be that he knew in advance and started the fire?"

The chief constable, believing that the Duke had set the fire and escaped, cursed.

Bridget couldn't breathe.

As she approached the flames as if possessed by something, someone finally noticed her and grabbed her.

"Who are you? It's dangerous. Please stand back!"

The police approached Bridget at the sound.

He recognized Bridget.

"No, Miss Bridget, what are you doing here..."

"The search... was there anything taken out from inside? Books, documents, and such..."

"I guess you shouldn't be here."

"I asked if you found anything!"

Bridget screamed.

Then, she took out all the black knights.

The chief of police stepped back in fear, then gathered his courage and approached her again, whispering to her.

"Calm down. You're causing unnecessary misunderstanding."

Although he was not a nobleman, he was a supporter of the neo-royalist party.

If it had become known the Bridget was here on that particular day, it could have given rise to strange misunderstandings.

Because the operation to raid this farm today was kept secret by the national police agency.

"Hurry up before anyone finds out."

At that time, people started to murmur.

"There's a person over there!"

"A towel! Bring me a towel!"

Two security guards ran toward the building carrying buckets.

Someone appeared out of the flames.

"Cough! Cough!"

He was the Duke of Linchester's butler.

As the police wrapped a wet towel around his body, he cried out in a hoarse voice.

"Inside... Inside the Duke...!"

"What?"

"The Duke of Linchester is inside!"

The chief of police was embarrassed.

"I have to take out the Duke..."

But he couldn't give the order to go into that flame and get the Duke out.

Bridget suggested.

"I'll let the black knights in. They won't get hurt or die."

If the Duke of Linchester was to be brought to trial, he had to be saved.

And if Queen Beatrice's records were never found, then she had to ask the last owner about their contents.

That was when she just let the black knights in.

Someone scramed.

"Everyone, watch out!"

The wooden pillars supporting the roof of the farmhouse collapsed.

Woozikkun!

The flames shot up with a loud noise.

The sheriff took a few steps back, wrapping his arms around Bridget.

Soon the building engulfed in flames came crashing down.

"Ah...!"

Bridget's last hope also crumbled.
