KFBRV - Part 2 Chapter 12

"Dear lady.

The young master's verdict is over. The death penalty has finally been waived. Everything has finally gone your way. Congratulations, young lady!

After paying for jury service, attorney fees, and alimony from his divorce from the former Countess, the landlord's safe seems to be completely empty.

Even the lower-level employees of the mansion are almost all laid off.

It's really a mess. Isn't it?

Even with the budget being this tight, the Count still seems to believe that he can persuade Purifier Charlotte. He sends Rolf to the central cathedral every day to meet with Purifier Charlotte.

For buying expensive gifts that the Count's budget could not afford,  there is no separate height, right?

You seem to believe that adopting the newly appeared Purifier is the only hope for the Count's family, so what good would a mere gift do? Who would want to get involved with the Count's family anymore?"

Since then, she has been worried about the young lady, asking if she is eating well, and missing her so much.

There was even a brief complaint from Maleah that she was annoyed to death because she had been watching Lize's every move for two years.

Odette's eyes sparkled with life as she folded the parchment in half, taking in Lize's final greeting.

Finally... everything is ripe enough.

So.

"It's time to go back."

She smiled brightly and threw the parchment paper into the brazier. The flame under the tin kettle crackled and burned the parchment.

It's been two years since she left the capital, pretending to commit suicide.

Since she was officially considered dead, It was a cumbersome process to influence the Count Albrecht family every time.

Since it was impossible to use direct means, the only way to stir up the Count's family was to indirectly stir up public opinion through the Brentano Newspaper.

It was all Odette's doing in collusion with Karin that attracted attention and stirred public opinion by exempting Fernand from the death penalty.

The Count must have spent an astronomical amount of money to save Fernand, both to persuade the noble jurors and to hire competent lawyers.

Anyway, since Fernand was saved as a result, Count Albrecht must be feeling fortunate for the time being, right?

Everything went according to Odette's will. Not knowing that Fernand's survival was the beginning of destruction.

"Now this will be the end of the hassle."

Odette will now return to the capital.

So that she could immediately bring about the downfall of the Count's family with her own hands, without having to rely on public opinion or Karin's power.

'It's a shame that the Albrecht family's wealth has leaked out, but I guess we have to accept this level of bleeding.'

If Fernand had really been executed, wouldn't he have become an object of unnecessary pity when Odette returned?

So, it was to Odette's advantage that the frightened Count emptied his assets and hired expensive lawyers without sparing any effort. That was what he had scared her to do in the first place.

Besides, she gained much more than she lost.

In the end, wasn't the purpose of stirring up Fernand properly achieved? The Count, who was too busy protecting Fernand to pay attention to the divorce trial with Sasha, ended up losing the divorce trial completely. He was completely stripped of everything, including alimony and division of property.

'Thanks to that Shylock received a huge sum of compensation from the Count.'

Shylock was delighted and said that he had given Gustav Kodel, or Demian, a rather generous bribe as a token of his gratitude.

Odette divided the case money between Demian and Goetz since they had really suffered a lot.

'You should have used it well enough to not give it to me.'

Goetz in particular suffered greatly because of the rapidly changing circumstances.

From the original promised 4 months to 2 years. The period of borrowing the identity of the real 'Gustav Kodel' had to be extended. If I extended it all at once, there would be strong resistance, so I did it little by little.

Goetz was also in charge of fabricating the information about the Count's affair that Odette had given him, pretending it had been reported by an anonymous person. Odette's handwriting must not remain when it is delivered to the court.

Goetz was also responsible for sending letters to the Count's former lovers and persuading them to come forward as witnesses.

I also had to ask Damien to show more intensity in his performance against Paula and the judges.

'The best way to keep a good worker as your man is to pay him a lot of money.'

It was quite a large sum of money, but Odette let out a faint laugh, thinking that it was not a waste.

Knock knock.

There was a knock on the cabin's front door from downstairs.

It was obvious who was knocking on the door.

'This must be the person who rented this place.''

Odette, smiling, walked down the stairs to the cabin. Once on the first floor, she opened the wooden door of the cabin.

As expected, Karin was standing at the entrance to the cabin.

"Come on in. Ka..."

"Odette, have you read the morning paper? Seriously, I can't stand it any longer! Charlotte, you horrible liar!"

It was completely unexpected to see her this excited.

***

In contrast to the excited Karin, Odette's reaction was calm.

"No. I'm embarrassed to say, but I just woke up. I didn't have time to read the newspaper."

Karin quickly handed over the morning newspaper she was holding.

"Here, here! You can read from this part."

As soon as Odette took the newspaper, Karin immediately pointed to the page in question with the tip of her index finger.

Although she looked unusually bustling for someone known as a socialite, Odette didn't seem surprised.

Because Karin has already shown this appearance to Odette several times.

In the year that Odette had spent at the cabin, the two had become close friends. There was no need to be formal.

"Charlotte. I will work hard to uphold the will of Odette who sent me."

Odette lowered her gaze, seemingly reading the article Karin had pointed to.

The article said that Charlotte would be presiding over the Victory Day memorial service.

Victory Day was the largest event held by the temple. It was on a scale comparable to the Foundation Day, except that it was shorter, lasting only one day, and was more solemn than the Foundation Day.

'Although the history is this long, this is the first time a Purifier other than Rosaline has been entrusted with the memorial service.'

Given the significance of Victory Day to the Empire, Charlotte was given an honorable position.

But it wasn't just that that made Karin angry.

'You dare mention Odette again?'

Charlotte. The pink-haired girl appeared in the central cathedral on the day of Odette's funeral mass.

It was a child who awakened as a Purifier on the day Odette fell from the cliff and died.

'I don't like the fact that her awakening date coincides with the day Odette fell off the cliff.'

Isn't that an unpleasant coincidence?

Because the dates happened to overlap like that, the attention that had been focused on the central cathedral due to Odette's death suddenly turned to Charlotte.

So easily. And so naturally.

'Besides, Charlotte always sells Odette's death. It's for her own glory.'

"I am so sorry that Miss Odette has died. I too had admired and loved her for a very long time."

"But I still believe that there is a meaning to my awakening as a Purifier at the same time as the young lady's death. I am certain that the dead young lady Odette sent me."

The pink-haired girl openly introduced herself in high society as 'the Purifier sent by the dead Odette'.

She was from a mountain village and had never properly met Odette. But she seemed to know Odette's heart best.

As if she could perfectly fill the void created after Odette's death.
