IDMH - Chapter 247

The train's engine room was equipped with a magic communication bead that could be used to contact the train's central communications unit at any time.

The same was true of the train that Count Whale had rescued.

Unlike the magic communication ring, the communication bead made a sound like a bell when a contact came in.

The sound was made so that the engineer would not notice the call while he was concentrating on running the train.

The clear sound of the bell was beautiful at first, but after listening to it for a while, it became noise.

“Ouch, it’s noisy.”

Finally, unable to bear it any longer, he broke the magic communication bead, and Prophetes IV, who was nearby, laughed.

“If we do this, the Central Communications Department might notice something strange. Is that okay?”

There were no ears to hear here, so Prophetes IV spoke.

I shrugged and answered.

“It doesn’t matter. I’ll be arriving at Krad Station soon.”

Krad Station was the former capital station, and it took about half a day to ride a horse from there to the capital.

“Is Sir Logos already in Krad?”

“Of course. He said he even prepared the horses and carriages.”

“Yes. Then we can leave right after we get off the train.”

“I don’t mind, but are you okay?”

What's okay?

Let's look at him in wonder, Prophetes IV continued with a slightly serious expression.

“I mean, the Knights of Leopold. They seem completely unaware that we are advancing towards the Imperial Palace and not towards Dilom. I asked if it would be okay to leave right away.”

“It’s okay. They are the Knights of Leopold, not the Empire.”

Prophetes IV smiled as if he found it interesting.

“Wow, you really do trust the knights.”

“Of course. Surely, Your Majesty the King does not trust Your Majesty’s knights?”

“No way. I trust them all. They are very trustworthy knights.”

“Me too. I believe everything.”

"Lie."

Prophetes IV's eyes narrowed.

“If you really trusted the knights, you would have told them in advance where you were going and who they were really fighting. But you didn’t.”

I laughed silently at the words that hit the nail on the head.

“I’ve thought about this for a while now, but I think your personality is really strange.”

Prophetes IV tilted his head.

“You seem to care for and trust the people around you, but when it’s important, you build a wall to block them from approaching you.”

Well, I don't completely trust them.

Because I can't share all the secrets I have.

“It’s good to be careful, but it’s not good to be too defensive.”

Prophetes IV patted my shoulder.

“As the saying goes, joy doubles when shared, and sadness or hardships are reduced when shared, so instead of trying to suffer alone, why not try to do it with the people around you?”

“...”

“It seems to me that there are quite a few good people around the Duke.”

Why did Perdes's face flash through my mind at that moment?

Because I have a lot of work left for him?

I don't know. No, I think I know, but I feel like I shouldn't know, so I forced myself to think about it.

And, taking Prophetes IV's hand away, I asked back:

“Is His Majesty the King one of those good people?”

"Of course."

Prophetes IV made a V sign with his fingers and brought them to his chin.

“Isn’t it okay for me?”

“I’ve never met a decent person who would say something like that with their own mouth.”

“Oh, so that means I’m no good?”

“I will be sparing with my words.”

I know he's a nice guy, but I didn't tell him because he hit the nail on the head and made me feel bad.

"This."

Then Prophetes IV sighed deeply and touched his forehead.

“I guess I’ll have to try harder. Until you think I’m a decent person.”

“There’s no need to do that.”

Anyway, I won't be seeing him after this is over.

“Did you think you wouldn’t see me again after this was over?”

“...Do you know how to do mind reading?”

“No way. The way you looked at me seemed to imply exactly that.”

Was that so?

“By the way, it’s a shame. I was planning on seeing you often even after this was over.”

“Aren’t you busy with construction? You’ll be even busier after the war ends.”

“But I still have time to spend with you.”

What the heck? This line sounds like it came straight out of a romance novel.

I glanced at Prophetes IV as if he was not the only one who thought so.

On the other hand, he was smiling brightly as if nothing had happened.

If you just look at his expression, it seems like he's joking, but the feeling I got the moment he said those words was sincere.

“You should tell that to the one who is to become Queen, not me.”

When I asked him whether he was joking or serious, Prophetes IV gave a subtle smile that was hard to tell whether it was positive or negative.

Why are you smiling like that?

Squeak-

As I was about to ask, a loud noise was heard.

Arrived at Krad Station.

Prophetes IV opened the engine room door and extended his hand to me.

“Should we go now?”

If it had been normal, I would have held his hand, but now I felt uneasy, so I just left the engine room.

Someone was waiting for me like that.

“Captain.”

It was right around the corner.

After that, other knights appeared.

“What's going on?”

I knew why they had come to see me, but I pretended not to know and asked.

Then, the expressions of the knights, including Sor Corner, became serious.

“Something...”

Sir Connor swallowed what he was about to say as he saw Prophetes IV following behind me.

The knights stood guard against Prophetes IV, ready to draw their swords at any moment.

“Oh, man. Looks like you’re really hated.”

Prophetes IV shrugged his shoulders as if he was very sorry and said to me:

“Then I’ll get off first, and you can finish up and come out.”

At a time when it would be enough to just leave quietly, how dare you say something like that.

My head was pounding.

I let out a deep sigh and looked at the knights who were keeping a close eye on Prophetes IV's back without letting go of their guard.

“You must be wondering why I came to Krad and not Rosdom.”

The knights' gazes all turned to me.

“And I also want to ask what our relationship is.”

The knights, including Corner, did not answer, but the way they looked at me was enough of an answer.

“I’ll tell you everything when I get off the train.”

In the presence of all the Leopold knights.

“So, let’s get off for now.”

"...Before I get off, I’d like to ask you one last thing.”

I tried to refuse, but when I saw the serious expression on Lord Connor's face, I couldn't.

Just as I was about to nod, Sir Connor asked,

“Do I have to take all my luggage down?”

It was a question with many implications.

Getting off with all your luggage means you'll never have to get on the train again.

This means that there is no need to go to Rosdom or Delom, and it could also be interpreted to mean that there is no intention of participating in the recapture battle.

I never thought Corner would ask such a clever question.

When I thought about his usual image, it was a little surprising.

On the one hand, it was reassuring because I thought that if Sir Aldor did not return, I could appoint him as vice-captain and leave the Knights in charge.

The best thing would be for Sir Aldor to return...

Thinking of Sir Aldor made my mood sink gloomily.

But I couldn't show it in front of them, so I forced the corners of my lips to rise and nodded.

“Yes. Make sure to take them all down without missing a single one.”

***

Sir Connor immediately ordered his knights to pack up all their luggage and disembark.

Some of the knights were puzzled, some seemed to understand what this meant and were amazed, while others had a determined look on their faces.

I got off the train after making sure all the remaining knights had gotten off.

At the station, there was a strange group of people wearing deep robes, including the Knights of the Order of Leopold.

One of them approached, taking off his robe.

“It’s been a long time, Your Excellency the Duke.”

“It’s been a while, Sir Logos. Well, since you’ve finally been given a title, should I call you Count?”

“Haha, it’s okay. I still prefer the title of Sir to Count.”

“Oh. When this is over, you’ll be given a higher title, so you should get used to the title.”

As Logos and I exchanged brief greetings and smiles, I felt the eyes of many people.

Most of them, including the Knights of Leopold, glanced at me as if they were spying, but one of Sir Logos's party openly stared at me.

“Who is he?”

When I pointed to the guy and asked, Sir Logos laughed awkwardly.

"What's the matter?"

“That is... ”

As Logos was about to say something, the one who had been staring at me approached me and took off his hood.

The fluttering jet-black hair and the golden eyes visible beneath it.

“Lord Perdes?”

Why is he here?
