AWSIL - Chapter 103

Jason Nova laughed. He had a huge amount of money in his hand. Even in gold terms, it was a huge amount. It was an amount he had never touched even when he was winning money at the casino.

“See, if you do as I say, everything will work out fine, right?”

Jason glanced at the sound coming from the side. If he looked trustworthy, this wouldn't have happened. Who wouldn't be suspicious of a guy who approached them with a hood over his robe and asked if they had insulted the Emperor and his wife?

“The clown I got hit with back then still hurts.”

The man's identity was Owen Casper. Someone was putting together the pieces of a puzzle that had taken care of Cecilia and Eden.

“Would you buy a title of fallen noble with that money?”

Owen asked. The smile disappeared from Jason's face, which had been grinning like a lunatic.

“That’s what I thought at first.”

“You mean not now?”

Owen tilted his head in confusion. Wasn't Jason desperate to become a noble again? Even though he had been going from one gambling house to another, he had been trying to buy a title for a fallen noble.

“If there’s someone who’s after me my whole life anyway, it’s useless! Titles and such.”

Jason muttered, sucking on the cigar-shaped thing. Owen, unable to see the gears of thought spinning in his head, simply frowned.

“It would be unfair if it happened to me.”

Owen Casper wasn't crazy either, but a truly crazy guy is hard to understand.

“I’m going to Count Nova’s house.”

“Hasn’t someone already bought that mansion?”

Jason grinned at Owen's question. The yellow teeth revealed between them were honestly not a good sight. Owen lukewarmly turned his gaze to space.

“I have this much money, what does it matter?”

“Oh, that’s true.”

Now Jason had enough money to buy the mansion for twice its market value.

“My father said there was a secret in that mansion.”

"What?"

Jason didn't answer. Owen frowned, as if he thought Jason was talking nonsense again, and left the building. He didn't forget to wave his hand to push away the unpleasant smell.

“The Duke of Lane and his daughter won’t be able to move...”

Jason muttered darkly, his eyes already gleaming with hostility and madness.

***

A few days later, Jason Nova was captured by the Imperial Knights.

'Do you all know? This is based on the story of the Emperor and his wife!'

As usual, after the puppet show was over, everyone shouted that this puppet show was about the Emperor and his wife.

'What is this?'

In addition, he was charged with another crime. He owned drugs that were strictly prohibited from distribution in Wyatt. It was not just possession, but a large quantity that seemed to be intended for distribution somewhere.

“Even if I live quietly, it’s not enough.”

Aren't you the only one who survived while your family was in ruins? Even though you're living a normal life, you're under surveillance, and yet you only do dirty things.

Cecilia stepped onto the basement stairs with a stern face. It smelled damp and gloomy, perhaps because it was deep underground, even in places where the sun didn't reach.

“No, who is this?”

Jason, who had become accustomed to the darkness, discovered Cecilia first and grinned.

“Isn’t she the most precious woman in the world?”

And then he opened his mouth to mock Cecilia's noble status. Cecilia looked down at Jason Nova with an expressionless face.

“Yes. While I have become this noble, you have descended to the bottom with your filthy deeds.”

And she mocked Jason for being worse off than a commoner. It seemed to have had some effect because Jason immediately crumpled his face.

“Who is to blame for that! This damned bitch!”

Then he grabbed the bars and shouted. At the same time, Madame Monte, who was beside Cecilia, took a step forward. Cecilia raised one hand to stop her.

“Why is it my fault?”

“...”

“Your father was greedy and your sister tried to kill another man because she coveted him. Is this sin mine?”

Jason gritted his teeth at Cecilia's essential question. There was nothing wrong with what he said, but he didn't want to admit any of it.

“Do you think that just happened?”

Jason asked with a twisted smile.

“Your father caused this.”

“I guess blaming others runs in the family.”

Cecilia naturally defended Curtis and criticized Count Nova. Jason gritted his teeth. He had picked a fight he couldn't win. Cecilia looked down on Jason.

“I had no intention of harming you since you were already broke. So you shouldn’t have become so low as to touch something illegal.”

“You have complete faith in Curtis Lane.”

Jason chuckled. He had been on illegal drugs all along, and the way he twisted his face and laughed was creepy.

“How did I get the money to start that puppet show? Where do you think I got the illegal drugs?”

Cecilia, who had been expressionless the whole time, faintly frowned.

“Yes, your father. Curtis Lane gave it to me.”

It was disgusting to see Curtis hanging on and biting him.

“It would be a shame to just die, so it seems like he wants to find a companion for the afterlife.”

“If you have any questions, ask your father.”

Cecilia, who was watching the scene, quietly ground her teeth. She was disgusted by the way he was trying to blame Curtis and shake her up.

“Go out there and say something like that. I wonder how many people will believe you when you’re soaked in drugs.”

There probably won't be anyone who would believe him anyway. Just as Cecilia was thinking that and turning around, her eyes met with Eden's as he was walking down the stairs to the dungeon.

“Cecilia, why are you here?”

Eden asked in a puzzled voice. Of course, it was a very dirty and gloomy space for a noble lady to be in.

“I heard that Jason Nova was arrested for lese majeste.”

“That’s right. There are also suspicions of illegal drug distribution.”

Eden obediently revealed the truth about Jason's crime. Cecilia didn't know it, but Jason was a little afraid of meeting Eden, and when their eyes met, he instinctively flinched.

“Your Majesty...”

“I came to question you.”

At Eden's words, Cecilia's gaze naturally flowed to Jason. Jason, who realized that the gaze was directed at him, smirked.

“The distribution range was larger than I thought. It seemed clear that there was a mastermind behind it.”

Eden spoke softly. Jason tilted his head to the side and stared at Cecilia as if wondering what to do.

“...”

Arrogant. The words rose to the tip of her tongue, but she couldn't bring herself to say them. In fact, she was more afraid than anything. She hadn't confirmed anything with Curtis or Diego.

But what if Eden hears Jason's nonsense and starts to doubt her? What if he rejects Curtis and her again, just like he did a long time ago?

“He’s drunk and talking nonsense. Even if you interrogate him now, it won’t be of much use.”

At Cecilia's words, Eden's blue eyes turned to Jason. It seemed that he was not in his right mind to be splitting it up by himself.

“Yes. I guess we should talk about it another time.”

Cecilia was nervous that Eden might ask Jason a question and Jason might say something strange. But fortunately, Eden listened to Cecilia. She felt relieved.

“Stop going up.”

Eden climbed the stairs, holding Cecilia's hand.

“It’s almost time to go to bed. Should I take a walk and come in?”

As soon as they left the basement, a refreshing breeze blew. Whether she liked it or not, Eden asked Cecilia what she thought. Cecilia nodded slightly.

“You have a bad relationship with Count Nova.”

It was while walking through a quiet backyard that Eden muttered softly. From the past to the present, it was an undeniable fact.

“It’s a good thing we caught wind of their trick early on, otherwise it would have been a bigger problem.”

Their greed would have crossed the line at some point, just like it is now. Eden was sure of that. Eden, who had not changed, knew how to properly understand the situation like this.

Yes, so this life will not be the same as before. She will not lose her family, she will not lose Eden, she will not lose herself.

“Cecilia?”

But she was anxious. Cecilia quietly approached Eden and hugged him tightly.

“Please hug me.”

And whispered. She clearly didn't mean simply to hold her in his arms. Eden's eyes widened at the sudden request.

"Suddenly?"

“I want to have a child soon.”

Cecilia held Eden's face with both hands and pulled him down as she spoke. The story also seemed to please him, as Eden smiled lightly and kissed Cecilia on the lips.

"Is it so."

Eden quickly hurried his steps and grabbed Cecilia's hand.

That night, Cecilia struggled to clear her thoughts as she swayed under Eden's love.

'How did I get the money to start that puppet show? Where do you think I got the illegal drugs?'

'Yes, your father. Curtis Lane gave it to me.'

But Jason's poisonous whispers would not leave her mind.
