ASP - Chapter 105 < Insufficient Time >

“The Prince’s leg was badly injured. Did you treat it?”

Liene asked as they headed to the dungeon together.

Black turned his head slightly to hide his expression.

“I did. It looks like he was badly injured, but it’s not. His life is in no danger.”

He might not be able to function as a man, but that was not something to worry about.

“Oh, that’s fortunate. You said he’ll be able to walk when he’s fully healed?”

“He might limp a little, but it won’t be so bad that he can’t walk.”

“Oh. What if Grand Duke Alito makes a fuss about it?”

“The Grand Duke will be happy that his limbs are still intact.”

If Liene hadn’t shown up in time, the Grand Duke would have received his son’s legs and torso separately. Liene didn’t know, but everyone else knew.

“Oh, you two came together?”

The dungeon was quiet for the first time in a while.

The guards who had been locked up were released, and instead, two prisoners who had been hung in the square of the gods were brought in. One of them was very quiet because his jaw was broken.

Dieren was locked up alone because of his status as the Grand Prince.

“I came to see the Grand Prince of Alito.”

“This way.”

The mercenary who guided the two to the prison had the absurd idea that Liene and Black were holding hands and going out for a picnic.

Creak.

The door opened and Black walked in first.

Dieren was exhausted from groaning alone, but Black did not let his guard down.

“Come in.”

After confirming that there was no problem, Black held out his hand. Liene took his hand and entered the prison.

“...You already got a reply? That can’t be.”

Dieren said with a pale face and sweat dripping down his face.

“They haven’t come yet.”

“Then why did you come? Did you come to see what I look like?”

Dieren sneered in a sharp voice.

Black clicked his tongue briefly.

“Why don’t you just go? It’s like that.”

“You have to do what you have to do.”

“It’s a waste of time. Why don’t you spend that time with me?”

“We’re already spending it together."

“There’s someone else involved.”

Liene smiled and opened the basket in Black’s hand.

Black, who had complained about Dieren coming, steadily carried the basket.

“It’s over. And Prince Dieren, I didn’t come to see you, I came to help you.”

Dieren shut his mouth when he saw bandages and cotton cloths come out of the basket.

“Here. Apply the medicine and change the bandage.”

Liene took the basket and put the items she took out from it in Black’s hand instead.

“Giving a bottle and medicine... What the hell is this?”

Dieren got angry.

Black didn’t look too pleased, but he nodded.

“That’s wise.”

“Yes. If I step forward and do it myself, you’ll hate me even more, right?”

Black smiled bitterly.

“You’ve already been found out. That’ll be difficult.”

“There’s nothing to worry about. I think it would be helpful for our relationship if I knew what you liked and disliked in advance. Just like now.”

Black took the bandage and medicine and kissed Liene’s ear.

“I think about it every day, but I think I married well.”

“Me too.”

Dieren spat out with a look that suggested he wanted to grind his teeth.

“If that’s the case, then don’t do anything at all. It’s not like I’m teasing anyone.”

“That won’t do.”

Liene shook her head firmly and approached Dieren.

“The Grand is a precious hostage. I brought you some apple juice. Would you like some?”

“...”

Dieren frowned. However, when Liene took out the still cool-looking bottle, he didn’t say no.

“Here.”

Liene put the bottle in Dieren’s hand. Dieren roughly lifted the bottle, brought it to his lips, and drank the apple juice in gulps.

"...Ugh! Gulp, gulp!"

Then suddenly he screamed. The apple juice he was drinking splashed everywhere. Even so, he didn’t let go of it because he was holding the bottle tightly.

The culprit was Black.

He spread the medicine on the wound that had been sewn up with thread with a thud.

“Be grateful that we gave you enough time to be alone. And that your arms and legs are still intact. Don’t forget what you did in the land of Nauk.”

“...”

Dieren mumbled something unintelligible in his mouth.

“I want the ring that Princess Bliny has back.”

Liene said, placing a basket full of food and apple juice within Dieren’s reach.

“That’s what it means to take care of the Prince. It’s not because I forgot what you did to me. It’s not because it wasn’t a big deal.”

Liene’s calm tone had the power to make him listen carefully to what she was saying.

“The price for what the Prince did in Nauk will be paid by Princess Bliny and Grand Duke Alito. I don’t want the process to be more brutal than necessary. What I want is clear, and I don’t have any intention of deliberately taking revenge on the Prince.”

“...Well, that is...”

Dieren, who was about to say something, closed his mouth again.

He also knew that Liene was treating him without ill feelings. If he were Black, he would have cut off his own head first and prepared for war, regardless of the outcome.

“...”

Dieren glanced at Black.

When he applied the medicine, Dieren thought he was going to tear off the leg that he couldn’t cut off, but his hands weren’t that rough when he changed the bandage.

...It must be because of Princess Liene. He must have noticed because he was so close.

Thinking about it made Dieren feel strange again.

Black, who had become Liene’s husband, seemed different from the Tiwakan leader and war god he knew.

No one on the continent had ever seen a Tiwakan leader who was aware of others’ feelings.

He probably didn’t change...

He was just pretending to be gentle. To be loved by his beloved wife.

Ha, really...

The more Dieren watched him, the more he thought that his sister was like a fool.

How on earth did she try to take Liene away from Black?

It was fortunate that he failed.

If he had sent Princess Liene to the Kingdom of Sharka as he had planned, the result would have been much more dire.

Bayar’s words that his father shared his sister’s intentions might have been a lie to draw him in.

His father knew Black better than he did, and he had never lied about the amount of gold he was sending to Tiwakan. It couldn’t have been simply fear.

“My sister...”

Dieren forced himself to open his mouth.

“I know that I was mistaken. I also know that I did something I shouldn’t have done.”

“That’s true.”

“...I would like you to let me send a letter to the duchy. I will inform the Grand Duke of the whole story. I also want to tell him that you don’t want the outcome to be bad.”

“I appreciate it.”

Princess Liene smiled faintly.

Dieren felt terribly ashamed of having poisoned her as his sister had told him, although he didn’t know why.

“Then let’s rest. Since the maid is away, I will send someone once a day until she returns. If you need anything, you can tell her in advance.”

Dieren was grateful for what she said, but it seemed too pathetic to ask for something right away.

“I will be satisfied if you let me write a letter.”

“Yes. I hope your wounds heal quickly. We should go back now.”

Princess Liene put her hand on Black’s arm.

Black’s eyes softened as he looked at the Princess, who lifted her chin and smiled.

As far as he knew, those eyes had never let their guard down with others. The pale blue that had always seemed colder than a person was now warm enough to melt away.

“Watch your head.”

Black said, reaching out to grab the door.

The Princess comfortably stepped over the threshold that she didn’t think she would bump into.

“It’s strange.”

“What?”

“You.”

“Am I strange today?”

“Why do you get excited every time she does something like that?”

“To me, it’s strange that you do that.”

“Why? I’m always honest.”

“I think it’s time to know. What happens in my head every time she says she likes me?”

“...Huh!”

The door closed, and he couldn’t tell what happened next.

Instead, the sound of footsteps decreased to one, and Princess Liene laughed breathlessly.

“Just give me an hour.”

“No... It’s daytime.”

“There’s nothing I can’t do. We’re newlyweds.”

It seemed as if Black was carrying Princess Liene and running to the bedroom.

As Dieren listened, his mouth felt so bitter that he had to swallow the apple juice Princess Liene had given him in one gulp.

The letter Dieren wrote was delivered to Grand Duke Alito four days later.

“Things are going very interesting... No, I can’t say this. It seems like things are going to be a mess.”

The information agent of the Kingdom of Sharka sent news three or four times a day.

That meant that the situation in the Kingdom of Sharka was changing rapidly.

“The crazy Princess received the letter from her brother. It seems she is delaying her reply. It’s not that she wants to go this way, but it doesn’t seem like she can do that. She’s on fire.”

Fermos relayed the news of Princess Bliny’s whereabouts that he had found out so far.

“The Fifth Prince has a son who is not good enough... um, his name is Wistad. He was caught bribing a prison guard. He tried to kill a human who was in prison, and interestingly enough, he was the one who let the one he was trying to kill live, and he’s the one who let the other one live, Bashad.”

“Oh, then?”

Liene sat up straight with her eyes wide open.

The armrests of the old, large chair in the office creaked.

Despite being newlyweds, the two were still busy. It seemed that he was busier than when he was preparing for the wedding, dealing with the affairs of the Kingdom of Sharka and the Principality of Alito.

There was no end to the things to do, such as building the fortress, reorganizing the guards, executing Kleinfelter, and the temple issue.

“Be careful.”

Black quickly grabbed the creaking chair.

“Oh, it’s nothing. This chair is old, so it’s always like that. By the way, what do you mean by trying to kill the surviving messenger?”

“It seems that Princess Bliny is trying to cover up the fact that she sent someone to Nauk. The Fifth Prince is having a hard time because Wistad is not revealing who is behind it.”

“Is Duke Wistad, the son of the Fifth Prince, protecting Princess Bliny?”

“Yes. He is known to be a weakling, but he seems to be holding out. Anyway, Wistad is locked in his house, and the Fifth Prince is upset about this, so the atmosphere in the royal court is tense. The King is not showing it for the sake of appearance, but he is taking Princess Bliny’s side.”

Fermos glanced at Black.

“That’s why the relationship between the King and Queen is not good. Well, it’s rare for them to get along well in that house. Besides, the Queen still has suspicions about Prince Bashad’s death. She believes that Princess Bliny killed her son.”

“It’s not impossible.”

Black added without much emotion.

“The Princess isn’t the type of person who cares about other people’s lives. But if she really did kill him, it would be so stupid. Are you saying that she didn’t think about her position in the royal family?”

“Hmm... I’m a little confused about that too. I don’t think she would kill her husband without thinking. But if she hated him that much, then it can’t be helped.”

“Maybe she had a separate corner of her that believed in him.”

“Then maybe the King? Hmm, in that family, it wouldn’t be strange if the King and Princess had that kind of relationship.”
