IWAEBS - Chapter 62 < My Heart is Pounding >

The baby wyvern, who managed to escape while Rosie was bathing, hummed involuntarily.

“If you don’t tell me, I won’t be able to find my master. Huh?”

Lulu Lala, flapping his wings, flew through the middle of the garden of the West Palace where the concubines’ quarters were gathered. However, he soon flew to the wall of the nearest building and hugged it tightly. This was because he suddenly remembered Rosie’s nagging. If he wanted to meet Zelda without being discovered, he needed a doppelganger.

“As the ugly duckling said, if we continue like this, we’ll be caught by humans. I’d better transform.”

The baby wyvern looked around, its ruby-red eyes darting around.

“Huh? He’s okay!”

Just then, a suitable person to borrow caught his eye. A red-haired attendant with braided hair was walking toward the building where the baby wyvern was hiding, carrying a large basket.

“I’ll just borrow it for a little while I go find my master.”

The baby wyvern flew behind the red-haired attendant. The moment the attendant turned around, sensing something odd, the baby wyvern’s form transformed into black smoke and was absorbed into her body. As the attendant shivered once, her brown eyes also turned ruby.

“But whose palace is this?”

The young wyvern, who had succeeded in becoming a doppelganger for the first time in his life, looked up at the building that the attendant was heading towards. At that moment, the irritating voices of a man and a woman were heard from somewhere.

“You don’t know how long I’ve been waiting for this day.”

“Then let me have it my way tonight.”

The baby wyvern held the basket the servant was holding in his arms and moved his body to find the direction of the voice.

“Ouch, what should I do if it’s already like this, it tickles... it tickles. Hohoho!”

As he turned the corner of the building, the voices became clearer.

“They are playing.”

The baby wyvern looked up at the place where the voice was coming from. Inside the largest terrace in the middle of the third floor. The terrace door was closed, but due to the wyvern’s advanced hearing, if he concentrated a little, he could hear the conversation at this distance. Inside the glass door of the terrace, with the curtains half-closed, a man and a woman were kissing. However, to the baby wyvern’s eyes, it looked strange.

“Ow? Why are you torturing your lips like that? Don’t they have fire coming out of their mouths like Rosie?”

But instead of fire, Rose possessed a terrifying ability to spit out a tremendous amount of curses as if they were fire.

“Shall we go upstairs and take a closer look?”

The baby wyvern trudged toward the large willow tree located directly across from the third-floor terrace of the palace. Even though he was transformed into a servant, climbing the tree branches that were three stories high was no problem.

“Is there something delicious in your mouth? Aha, those guys... They must be stealing the food from each other’s mouths!”

The baby wyvern, holding the basket in its arms, jumped up onto a tree branch and sat down, watching with curious eyes the couple fighting with their lips.

***

Prince Tesla, who was absorbed in the kiss, felt an awkward gaze at some point. He absentmindedly turned his gaze outside the terrace.

“!”

He was shocked to see a servant sitting on a willow branch across from him. At first, he thought it was a ghost, but when he rubbed his eyes and looked again, it was a person. The woman who had been kissing the Prince also became restless and quickly hid behind the curtain. In the meantime, the servant sitting on the branch spoke to him. Prince Tesla knew it was dangerous, but he was so shocked that he opened the terrace door slightly as if possessed. He had to hear what the mad servant, who had lost his fear, was trying to say to him. Moreover, the servant’s expression was so calm that it piqued his curiosity. He had seen his face, so he had to kill him anyway. However, he had time to hear what he was talking about before that. The servant’s cheerful voice came through the open terrace door on the wind.

“Was it delicious?”

“!”

“Did you eat everything?”

“?”

“Whose mouth had more delicious things in it?”

'What is that...??!'

Prince Tesla blinked momentarily, dumbfounded by the servant's strange question that he could not understand.

“You only know how to move your lips, but you can’t speak? Is your throat blocked? Is your ear hole blocked?”

The shock of the servant’s baseless informality made his breath catch in his throat. It was the first time in 25 years of the Prince’s life that he had heard such foul language. The woman hiding behind the curtain also heard the words coming through the terrace door and looked at him with a look at what was going on. He grimaced and shook his head as if he had no idea what was going on. Prince Tesla turned his gaze back to the crazy servant sitting on the tree branch.

“What! Where did you go?”

It was really a blink of an eye. In the moment that he looked away, the servant had disappeared. Prince Tesla opened the terrace door and went outside to look around. He didn't hear even the slightest sound, and he disappeared in the blink of an eye? Even if he had quickly descended from the tree branch to the ground, it would have been normal to hear at least a rustling sound.

'How could this be possible without wings?'

Confusion and absurdity rushed over him. He regained his composure by force, put two fingers in his mouth, and whistled briefly. Then, a moment later, his knight escort, Sir Ken, appeared on the third-floor terrace.

“What is it, Your Highness?”

“There was someone over there!”

He pointed with his hand to where the servant was sitting.

“Where... Are you talking about that tree branch?”

“Yeah! It was definitely there just a little while ago. It was sitting on that branch!”

“Have you seen the face?”

Ken asked with a look of disapproval. He asked the question because his master insisted that it was so.

“I couldn’t see her face clearly, but she was a woman. She was wearing a servant’s outfit and her hair was braided on both sides.”

He said, recalling the impression the attendant had on his face.

“...A woman? Are you saying that a woman was climbing up a tree branch three stories high and spying on this place?”

“That’s right! She made eye contact with me, started asking me strange questions, and then disappeared in the blink of an eye!”

There was nothing in Prince Tesla's words that made any sense to Sir Ken. But the way he was getting so excited and bloodshot, it seemed like he had seen something.

“Did you happen to see something like a big bird...?”

“I’m going to turn back.”

Prince Tesla placed both hands on his head with a frustrated expression and spun around in place.

“Look at the basket under that tree? Look at the one the servant left behind when he ran away!”

Sir Ken stared at where the Prince was pointing with his finger.

“Looking at the white sheets inside, it seems like it would be right for the servants to carry them around...”

A fairly large basket lay half-upside down under a willow tree.

“Your Majesty, was the servant with the pigtails a redhead?”

At that moment, a woman who had been listening to the two men's conversation with great tension cautiously intervened.

“Yes, redhead! Why, you know the servant?”

“It’s like a child in my quarters. I was passing by the hallway earlier and overheard the servants talking among themselves on the stairs.”

“What are you talking about?”

“I think I heard the maid say she was going to the bedding room in the main palace to get bed sheets. And that girl always wears her hair in braids on both sides. Her name is Anne...”

The woman said with a worried expression. If rumors spread that she was having an affair with Prince Tesla, she would not be safe. Not only that, but her family would also be in great trouble. So she had to find the servant quickly and silence her, either by threatening or placating her, before she told anyone.

"Shit."

Prince Tesla hit the wall with his fist.

“Ken, catch that woman right now! You can’t let her go. She wouldn’t have come into the palace if she had talked to me.”

“Then, there’s a high chance that he ran away in the opposite direction from here, towards the main palace. Should I catch her and drag her here?”

“What are you doing? Kill her as soon as you catch her.”

Prince Tesla gave the order through gritting his teeth. If anyone found out that he had come here in the middle of the night, everything would be over.

“She probably hasn’t gone far yet. I bet you can catch up with her in no time, no matter which way she ran off to.”

“Yes, don’t worry. I’ll be back.”

As Ken disappeared, the woman grabbed Prince Tesla's arm with an anxious look on her face.

“Sir, is it really necessary to kill her? I think it would be better to just send her far away...”

“My love, if you don’t want to get yourself into trouble because of such a lowly servant, then stop talking nonsense with that pretty mouth of yours.”

Prince Tesla whispered as he wrapped his arms around the woman's waist, then roughly pushed her onto the bed.

“Ken Sir will take care of it. Until then, let’s just finish what we were doing.”

"Great..."

The woman's face, which had been full of deep thoughts, quickly became shy.

“Before you became Emperor Linel’s concubine, whose woman were you originally? Tell me with your own mouth.”

Prince Tesla quickly climbed onto the bed, grabbed the woman's chin, and asked.

“I was yours from the beginning. I would do anything for you. Just like I became Emperor's concubine on purpose.”

The woman smiled faintly and gave Prince Tesla the answer he wanted.

***

The baby wyvern, who had descended from the willow tree and left the western palace, quickly walked in the direction where Zelda's energy was felt. It would have been much easier to just fly, but as Rosie had said, walking around in its true form was truly dangerous.

“Why on earth are you wearing something so uncomfortable?”

The baby wyvern felt that the transformed servant's outfit was very cumbersome. Since he couldn't take it off, he lifted the hem of the dress up to his knees and entered the back garden of the main palace connected to the Empress's palace.

“Uh, Rosie told me that I should never be seen by other people! Seeing him tease her lips so much, I couldn’t help but...”

The baby wyvern thought of the man whose eyes met his. The man’s gaze was somehow unpleasant. He wanted to return to his original form and spit fire at the man, but he chose to talk to him in a friendly manner. However, as they talked, he sensed a threat from the man’s face. He didn’t know what he had done wrong, but something felt ominous, so he left the place while the man briefly looked away.

“Oh, who is that guy? He’s been chasing me and causing a fuss since a while ago.”

The baby wyvern felt the presence of a man chasing after him from a distance, made an annoyed expression, and then started to run.

“Come and see.”

After running without stopping, it wasn't that far to the Empress's Palace rear garden. The baby wyvern stopped at a place where Zelda's energy was strongly felt. It was a much larger and more magnificent building than Rosie's palace.

“If I keep acting like this, I’ll get caught by the guy following me.”

The baby wyvern looked around to see if there was a new target for its doppelganger.

“Meow meow-.”

At that moment, a fluffy white kitten suddenly jumped out from a field of yellow roses.

“Hello? Nice to meet you, kitten?”

The baby wyvern approached the white cat, waving.

“Meow! (Get out!)”

The cat recognized the wyvern in human form and stood on guard, its fur standing up.

***

I had been awake since a while ago. I felt a heat from the burn scar on my right face. It wasn’t as painful as usual, but I couldn’t ignore it and go to sleep. It was strange that I hadn’t felt heat from my burn scar for this long since I took the magic potion. The heat grew stronger as time passed. And the intensity of the heat had been maintained at a certain level for a while.

I sat up. Linel’s calm features frowned briefly as if he sensed my movement, then relaxed. I looked down at his face, which had fallen asleep next to me. I wanted to stroke Linel’s soft hair, but I held back my hand from reaching for his face because I thought I would wake him up. I laughed silently as I recalled what he had said before he fell asleep. He must have been thinking about the words that Commander Macrom had prayed to God in the training ground, or he was groaning as he chewed over what the commander had said while we were making love.

'What? Do you want me to take away some of my passion? Isn't that right, Macrom? Your wish was rejected before it even reached the heavens! Tonight, this very moment... is the proof, you brat! Heh...'

In that way, he proved with his whole body that Commander Macrom’s prayers were ineffective. As a result, I fell into a near-passing sleep.

Meow- meow-.

As I continued to admire Linel’s sleeping face, I suddenly raised my head at the sound of a cat’s cry. The cry seemed to stop for a moment but then started to cry pitifully again. I carefully lifted the blanket and got out of bed. I walked toward the terrace, lifting my heels to minimize the rustling noise. I opened the terrace door and went outside not just because of the cat’s cry. The heat from the burn scar on the right side of my face was getting worse, so I felt like I needed some air. When I went outside, the cat’s cry changed a little.

Meow-!

Should I say it was a cry of longing? I glanced down at the bottom of the terrace. Did I see something wrong? No...? A white kitten was standing on its hind legs and waving its two front paws at me like hands.

Without realizing it, I grabbed the terrace railing with one hand and jumped down. For some reason... I felt like I had to come down. Compared to the speed at which I was coming down, my two feet landed steadily on the ground.

“You, what... hey?”

A white kitten jumped into my arms as if it had been waiting. The cat's eyes sparkled with a red light. My heart pounded wildly for no reason. Of course, the cat was cute, but I couldn't understand why my heart was beating so fast when I wasn't even looking at Linel. What on earth was this feeling?

I felt something swirling inside my stomach. Then I heard footsteps from afar. It seemed like someone was coming this way. But the footsteps weren't from one person. And the direction of the footsteps was different. Were they guards?

"Shhh."

I leaned against the wall, looked down at the kitten in my arms, and put my index finger to my lips. Surprisingly, the cat lifted one of its front paws and covered my pink mouth as if it understood what I was saying. The sight was so shocking, yet so cute, that I stared blankly at the cat for a moment. While I was distracted by the cat, I turned my head at the strange noise that had suddenly come closer. At that moment, my vision turned dark.

“Huh!”

Someone put something over my face.
