ICTFF - Chapter 193

 100m before meeting you (5)

When supplies were sent to Whitefield, not all ships departed at the same time.

The first round is to send troops, the second to send supplies, and finally the reinforcements.

The dock on the other side was narrow, and it was a safety measure to prevent possible attacks from monsters.

Nearly thirty ships have been sunk in two recent attempts to transfer supplies.

Not only that, but the soldiers on board the first ship did not escape death.

Now there are only about 50 supply ships left in the rear.

If it fails this time, there will be a shortage of ships and there will be a big problem in transporting supplies. It had to succeed.

Ten ships, protected by wooden canopies on their decks, slowly slipped out of the dock.

The ships, which had formed up to the right depth, raised their sails in unison.

The wind blew fiercely, and the sails bearing the Allied seal swelled. The boats, which had been moving like turtles, began to pick up speed.

The movement of the monsters on the opposite bank of the river became disturbed.

Eventually, they let out a scream that seemed to pierce our eardrums and lunged toward our stomachs.

The monsters, which looked like geese, suddenly became larger. The stench crept in.

"..."

I exhaled slowly.

I have regained my eyesight, but I don't know why my sense of smell is the same. The stench that touched my nerves made my stomach rumble.

Baba glanced at me and took off his outer garment without hesitation, draping it over my head.

I stared at him, and he tilted his head as if to ask what was wrong.

"Don't I smell better than theirs?"

Rather, I was surprised that he noticed my difficulties and helped me...

Originally, Baba would have just watched with curious eyes, whether I was nauseous or not.

'A little... He's different, isn't he?'

In the meantime, the ten ships that had set out in the first round reached the center of the river.

The distance between the monsters flying in from the other side was getting closer and closer. Only in the middle of the river, it turned black as if dark clouds had gathered.

The next moment, the twenty ships waiting at the dock moved without a sound. It was a supply ship waiting for the second departure.

The boats carrying the volunteers, including me, watched the situation as they waited for the third and final departure. Sweat pooled in my clenched fists.

As the supply ships were about to leave the dock, the monsters took over the skies of the speedboats that had departed earlier.

Hundreds of flying monsters clung to the ten ships.

It's like a swarm of insects covered in black candy that has fallen to the ground. It was a disgusting sight.

Understandably, the ship could not advance further.

Even if the entire deck was protected by a wooden canopy, it was not enough to stop the monsters' sharp claws and immense grip that came from them.

I could see from a distance the ship shattering, sending debris flying in all directions.

Soon after, the ship's cover was completely destroyed.

The monsters, who were about to charge with a furious howl, stopped for a moment. There were no prey in sight to be frightened and scurrying about.

In its place was a strange-looking device.

It looked like a cannon, but the muzzle from which the cannonball exited was pointed at the sky instead of straight ahead.

After a moment's hesitation, the monsters screamed and flew onto the deck.

In an instant, their curved claws touched the device, and the muzzle shot something into the air.

Pow!

Dozens of flaming arrows were fired into the air in unison. When I saw it, I couldn't help but burst out in admiration.

"I thought you could use the modified bow, but now the cannon has been modified to look like a modified bow."

But there were tens of thousands of arrows, and the speed was too slow. It seemed difficult to break through the tough monster's skin.

Sure enough, the arrow didn't even lodge in the bodies of the monsters that were nearby, and it bounced off.

There were only a handful of them, but most of them were out of range with the swift flapping of their wings.

Five or six monsters on fire floated into the air.

It wasn't a roaring fire in the first place, it was a small bucket that stuck to its squirt.

Wow!

However, contrary to expectations, the fore was not extinguished. On the contrary, in the blink of an eye, it grew and devoured the monster.

The flaming monsters flew around like crazy. The wind sent sparks flying in all directions and carried to the unsuspecting monsters.

The more they flapped their wings, the bigger the flames got. I could feel embarrassed.

Baba, who had been squinting his eyes and examining the situation, smiled coldly.

"Stupid bastards, they didn't even know the flap they broke was an oil drum."

Even on the windy river, the flames never die down.

On the contrary, the more the wind blew, the more frighteningly loud it became. Now the monsters seemed to be animated flames.

'Spectacular.'

Kiea kaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

The monsters shouted and plummeted down the river.

But the fore was not extinguished. The oil that had already spread widely over the river only caused more fire.

That's why high-quality oil was needed.

Unlike low-grade oils, high-grade oil catches fire easily even at low temperatures, does not extinguish, and burns for a long time.

It wasn't even well extinguished by water. So they cut off the wick and threw it away, or put a cover on it to keep the air out.

The most important thing was that the smell wasn't harsh. It's hard to tell it apart from the repellent that was applied to the entire boat.

'It's expensive.'

They had to sell the mines and use the rest of the money to send high-grade oil to the rear

It's gratifying to see the results in front of you. I guess that's why people spend money.

One by one, the monsters that had been completely burned out fell from the air.

It didn't take long for hundreds of monsters to turn into charred masses and sink deep into the water.

The hellish cries died down, leaving only the sound of the wind and the harrowing scene.

Only then did the ships that departed for the second time raise their sails as promised.

They had rescued the crew members who had escaped earlier from the ten ships that had departed in the first round and were waiting nearby.

The boat, aided by the wind, crossed the river in the blink of an eye.

The boat descends towards the dock. The distance was so great that it was hard to gauge if we had arrived at the right place.

A moment later, two streams of white smoke rose from somewhere on the other side of the river.

The crowd, who had been watching with bated breath, burst into cheers.

"Done! That's it."

"Did we succeed? All the monsters are dead, right?"

"Don't you know what you see? It's all turned into coals!"

That smoke means the supplies have crossed the river. You don't have to worry about it anymore!"

In the crowd of people embracing and rejoicing. I let out a gentle breath.

"...Huh."

I slowly unclenched my clenched fists. Blood rushes through my whitened hands, causing a tingling sensation.

I clenched my fists a few times and rubbed it against the hem of my dress. When I looked at the clothes covered in cold sweat, my eyes suddenly became hot.

'I can see it now. I can meet you.'

I could feel the rumble, the vibration. The boat we were on was moving.

"Looks like we're leaving! Let's all be seated!"

The crowd calmed down and sat down.

Even though they were just sitting on a cloth on the hard floor, no one complained.

By the time the ship reached the other side of the river, supplies were in full swing from the preceding second vessel.

As a result, the boat that left for the third time like us could not dock and had to wait.

Baba and I slipped out of our cramped cabin and out onto the deck. Then I watched people load their supplies onto carts.

"It's easier than I thought. Isn't it?"

"Yes..."

It was thanks to the flying monsters rushing in all at once. This allowed us to use the oil and flaming arrows effectively.

On the other hand, if you think about it, it was too stupid a response for a mid-level monster. It's ridiculously flimsy for a top-tier monster's strategy.

"Huh?"

Then, a foul-smelling wind came from somewhere. My head turned at the smell.

A faint stench was wafting from the woods between the dock and the Whitefield.

These... Monsters, huh?

"Wasn't that the end of the flying monsters?"

"What's wrong?"

Baba looked at my whitened face. He was about to turn his head to follow my gaze.

Rumble!

The ground shook as if an earthquake had struck. It was a tremor that made the river churn.

Carts were pushed and piles and supplies were topped over. Sensing the quake, the people covered their heads and sat down.

After a few moments, I heard an unidentified sound.

Stomp!

It's like a giant pillar slamming the floor. I don't know what it is.

The water on the deck rippled. Something incredible was coming.

The crowd scrambled to their feet, looking in the direction of the sound. Someone pointed a finger at one of the woods.

"Wh, wh, what's that?"

A huge boulder rejuvenated out of the forest.

The blood disappeared from the faces of those who had been staring at it for a while. It was only then that I realized who it was.

A deep despair escaped from someone's mouth.

"Advanced monsters..."
