WTPB - Chapter 156

Tenek, who had a mean smile on his lips, suddenly turned his head.

Tenek’s expression crumpled when he saw Roelica’s close maid Savina.

He had hated her like a bug ever since she had tried to help Roelica and her lover. Tenek had no idea about Eorshin’s name.

He didn’t care and ran away.

“Your arrogance is sky-high. How dare you come in here without making a sound, even though you’re a maid!”

“I came to deliver the Empress’s message.”

Despite Tenek’s absurd criticism, Savina’s expression did not change at all.

Her attitude, insisting with her whole body that she was just standing here to do what she had to do, made Tenek even angrier.

“If she has something to say, tell her to come in person!”

Since Roelica found out she was pregnant, she had not tried to look at Tenek’s face even once.

Tenek, too, had been too busy with his many mistresses to pay attention to her, but he did not think it was wrong. He was the Emperor.

Whether she was the Empress or someone else, she should have bowed her head obediently before him and should have been embarrassed and happy when he paid attention to her.

But Roelica had never been like that. She had never been happy with any of Tenek’s attention.

Tenek, who was already narrow-minded and cunning, became even more cruel to women because of Roelica’s attitude.

The mistresses were anxious not to displease him, and the more they did, the more Roelica drifted away from Tenek.

Savina looked straight into Tenek’s eyes and said,

“I am being presumptuous, but Her Majesty is heavy and unwell, and is having difficulty moving at the moment. If Your Majesty could visit the palace and comfort Her Majesty, she would feel better, but would it be difficult?”

Tenek's face turned red and blue.

At the same time, he suddenly realized that he could never refuse Savina's, or more precisely, Roelica's 'request', and his pride was hurt at the same time.

He glared at the prime minister who was preparing to retreat while keeping an eye on the situation, and shouted fiercely as if he wanted to slap Savina's cheek.

"I got it!"

The prime minister's eyes widened, and Savina lowered her head with an indifferent expression as if she had expected this.

Of course, this difference upset Tenek's outfit even more.

"Get out when you're done talking!"

"Yes? Oh, oh. Yes, Your Majesty. Yes, I understand."

Tenek said with a glare.

"Don't forget. Thelma, Merton, and Aiman. You have to sneak a word to those three."

"Yes, I understand."

Tenek, who had turned around with a face that was as angry as it could be, even dismissed the attendants following him and headed straight to the Empress’s Palace.

Contrary to Savina’s words that her body was heavy and uncomfortable, Roelica was sitting on a chair.

Tenek’s mind began to become complicated when he saw Roelica staring at him with her back to the sunlight.

Although he was a mean and narrow-minded man, there was still a corner of his heart, perhaps it could be described as pure, that had been filled with love for Roelica from the beginning.

Even though he had forcibly separated Roelica from her lover and treated her like an object, Tenek foolishly believed that was also his way of expressing his love.

Or perhaps he could not find any other way to keep Roelica by his side.

“Go out, Savina, so I have something to talk to His Majesty.”

“Yes, Your Majesty. Tea...”

“No need.”

Tenek’s lips twitched at Roelica’s words.

He glared at Savina, who was passing by, pretending to bow to him, and as soon as the door closed, he snapped at Roelica in a nervous voice.

“Why do you still insist on keeping that woman by your side, when you’ve turned down all the great maids I’ve offered you?”

“Please take a seat, Your Majesty.”

Roelica naturally ignored Tenek’s hysterical question and offered him a seat.

Tenek’s face turned red, for he was more sensitive than an animal when someone was ignoring him if nothing else.

However, he sat down in the seat Roelica offered him.

As he sat down and licked his lips, Roelica carefully sat down across from Tenek, rubbing her swollen belly.

Tenek deliberately glanced sideways at the woman who was pregnant with his child and said,

“You avoided me because you didn’t like my appearance, so what brought you to come looking for me, Your Majesty the High Empress?”

It was a childish sarcasm that could not even be laughed at, but this time, Roelica had an indifferent expression as if she was wearing a mask.

Looking at her face, Tenek felt his stomach turn with various emotions.

Although she had been a quiet and reserved person before, after becoming the Crown Princess and then the Empress, Roelica gradually lost her expression and emotions.

Even when treated well or humiliated, she maintained an indifferent attitude as if she was telling them to do so and that she didn’t care at all, to the point of madness.

People thought that Tenek was sick of Roelica and was treating her worse than furniture, even her father, Atelgadis, but only Tenek and Roelica knew that it was the exact opposite.

Roelica was the one who treated the other worse than a piece of scratched furniture.

Tenek knew exactly how Roelica viewed him. That was why he didn’t go out of his way to look for her. He couldn’t stand it. Tenek, who couldn’t even stand a moment of silence, said with his mouth trembling with anger,

“Did you call me to protest? You’re treating me with the grandson? That’s what you brought upon yourself. It’s all your fault.  I'm not the one doing it..."

“You misunderstand, Your Majesty.”

Roelica cut off Tenek’s words. Tenek’s cheeks twitched again in humiliation, but he felt relieved in a corner of his heart.

The mere fact that Roelica had spoken to him had made him let go of some of his tension.

“What misunderstanding?”

“The reason I haven’t seen Your Majesty is because, as you said, I have a baby. I have to be very careful about everything, so I can’t sleep with Your Majesty, and the Golden Castle is more crowded than ever these days. I’m afraid that something might happen and I might lose my baby.”

Tenek’s eyebrows furrowed. Roelica was screaming with her whole body that she was ‘lying.’

Tenek couldn’t help but know that. But even though he knew, he was being fooled by Roelica. Because, because...

Because this was the first time Roelica had come to him first.

Even after becoming the Crown Princess and the Empress, Roelica avoided Tenek like the plague.

When he came to her room, she gave up like a person who had given up, but Tenek wished that Roelica would resist fiercely.

There were times when he thought that spitting and cursing would be better.

At least then, Roelica would recognize him before her eyes as a human being, a threatening being, not a useless and uninteresting piece of furniture.

Tenek said.

“So what’s your business?”

Roelica, who had been looking down at the edge of the table, looked at Tenek.

The moment she met his straight gaze, Tenek almost knelt before her and begged for forgiveness. He barely resisted the urge to tell her that he would never associate with the government again, that if anyone threatened her, he would skin them and hang them on the top of the castle instead of a flag.

A woman so beautiful that she would make him cry. A woman he could never have.

A woman who had all the cheers, praises, and luxuries in her hands, but who seemed to disappear with the wind as if she didn’t need anything.

That was Roelica looking at him.

Maybe it was the first time in his life. Tenek was now groaning not out of anger but out of emotion.

Roelica said.

“The Empress’s Palace in the Golden Castle is splendid, but... it’s not a place where I can rest quietly. Many people come and go, and there’s a constant stream of people coming to see me or greet me.”

“It can’t be helped. But you’re the Empress...”

“Before I was the Empress, you were the mother of His Majesty’s child.”

Having His Majesty’s child.

The moment he heard that Tenek thought that he would grant whatever she asked for at that moment.

“What’s so inconvenient? What kind of guy came here to bother you? Should I issue an order to keep that guy out of the castle?”

“No, Your Majesty. They are all officials Your Majesty needs, but that is not possible. Instead... I would like you to build me a villa. It doesn’t have to be big, and it can be anywhere near the castle. Is this a difficult request?”

“A villa?”

Tenek’s eyebrows furrowed at once. Even though her residence was close to the castle, it was hard to see Roelica. A villa?

No matter how close it was to the castle, it was obvious that it would be difficult to see Roelica the moment she left the Empress’s Palace.

Tenek said.

“Anyway, all that’s left in the castle is a room. If you like it quiet, why don’t you move to a place where people won’t easily come until you disperse?”

“That’s true. But no matter how quiet it is, the castle is the castle. If you try to take a walk in the garden or backyard, you’re bound to run into people.”
