THIBV - Chapter 92

Count Hudson had made it a point for Isaac's maid not to allow outsiders Into the house.

"It's already an early birth, so what if I get a negative reaction?"

He was so stubborn that the maid had no choice but to wait outside the house indefinitely.

Inside the building, Penelope's screams continued.

It was not until dawn the next day that the screaming stopped.

Isaac's maid, who had been nodding off in front of the front door, woke up to the sound of the front door opening.

A midwife with a very tired face was coming out carefully.

"What about the child? Is the child okay?"

At the maid's question, the midwife glanced at her and sighed for no reason.

"I did my job well. If you have any questions, ask the people inside."

"Is it a son or a daughter?"

"Tsk tsk."

The midwife did not answer and just passed the maid.

The maid tilted her head at her cold attitude.

"Are you very tired?"

It is not unreasonable to say that the old woman was nervous after caring for the mother for hours.

The maid peered inside through the window, but the curtains were drawn tightly around each window, so she could not see anything.

She knew she would hear unpleasant things, but she had no choice but to knock on the door.

After a while, Count Hudson's servant popped his head out.

"You haven't gone yet?"

"They told me to bring the baby home right after it's born, but how do I go about it?"

"Wow, that owner is really too much."

"I don't want to be like this. By the way, what about the child? Is it a boy or a girl?"

The servant looked inside once and spoke loudly.

"Oh, of course, it was a son! A very healthy baby boy was born!"

At that sound, Count Hudson came running out, out of breath.

"What on earth do you want that you're still here? Tell Viscount Winston! He's going to stay here with the baby until my daughter gets better!"

"Oh, I understand. Then, can you please show me the baby's face just once? I also have something to tell you when I go back..."

Isaac would have been in deep trouble if he had been kicked out without even seeing the baby once.

The maid thrust her head into the space between the door and Count Hudson's side, determined to see something.

Then he spotted a woman coming down the stairs with a baby.

'Uh?'

There were two babies in the woman's arms.

"What's going on! Is this bitch crazy!"

"Ouch!"

Count Hudson pushed aside the maid who was looking inside.

The maid staggered as if she was about to fall, but barely managed to regain her balance and asked.

"Why do you have two children?"

"What the hell are you talking about?"

"I just saw it clearly! There were two of them!"

"Stop talking nonsense and go back!"

Count Hudson slammed the door with a fierce expression.

But then he opened the door wide again and shouted.

"That was just a nanny! One of the children is the nanny's child! I feel bad for my daughter being neglected at Winston Mansion, so I've already found a good nanny for her. Tell that house to know!"

Then he slammed the door again.

The maid sighed deeply as if she was dirty and ugly and came out the front door.

"You should have said that earlier. The father or daughter with a bad temper."

***

Count Hudson, who had come in after shooing away the maid, looked down at the two children in their nanny's arms.

The babies were born around the same time.

One child was sleeping peacefully, her white, plump cheeks puckering, while the other child had a thin, red face and was crying, looking tired and very pitiful.

Count Hudson took the skinny, red child from his nurse and handed it over to his servant.

"Just take this child to the nanny's family."

"Yes, I understand."

The nanny didn't even look at the baby as she left.

Count Hudson looked down at the nanny and the remaining baby.

"You'd better take what I said to heart. We're in the same boat now."

"Yes, yes, of course."

The nanny smiled happily and nodded.

The Count of Hudson's attitude toward the nanny was gentler than toward his other employees.

She was introduced to him by none other than the Duke of Linchester.

The Duke of Linchester heard the Count of Hudson complaining to the ladies about how Penelope was being treated by Bridget.

The Duke contacted the Count of Hudson and offered to send a nanny from the Countess of Highbury, as she no longer needed one.

As the father of a daughter who had lost her life due to Bridget's plot, he felt sorry for Penelope who had suffered the same fate, and he wanted to console her by doing good deeds.

Count Hudson headed to the maternity ward.

Penelope was asleep from exhaustion but woke up slightly when she heard a noise.

"What about the baby? How is it?"

"Don't worry. Everything is fine."

Viola, who had been standing by the window and staring somewhere for a while, sighed.

"Still, she has to suckle from my mother's milk at least once..."

"You're just talking nonsense!"

Count Hudson became angry.

Penelope waved her hand with an exhausted face.

"I hope everything is okay. I'm tired, so please leave."

It was an irritating voice. There was no mention of seeing the child.

Viola kept looking out the window and then went downstairs.

"It's been a long night, I think I need a glass of wine."

She passed the nanny and the baby without even looking at them and headed towards the kitchen.

***

"So you're saying you just came? You should've brought the nanny and the child!"

"I couldn't help it because they absolutely wouldn't let me in."

Isaac glared at the maid he had sent to Count Hudson's mansion.

The maid's expression was not good after working hard all night but getting scolded without hearing a single word of encouragement.

Isaac sighed deeply.

"Why is it that there isn't a single person in this mansion who does proper work? So, you're definitely talking about a son?"

"Yes. I heard it clearly."

"Did you confirm for yourself that the baby is my son?"

"I told you they didn't let me in."

The maid grumbled to herself but then answered vaguely to avoid getting scolded any further.

"Yes, yes. It was your son. I confirmed it for sure."

"If he was my son, he wouldn't have run away."

Just in case, he called one of his strong servants and had him go to Count Hudson's mansion.

"Stand guarding in front of Penelope until she returns, and then bring her back with the baby."

Only then did Isaac feel relieved. He was happy because he felt relieved.

'I have a son!'

Isaac opened the most expensive wine, which he only drank when he was very happy.

***

I was informed by Cedric that Penelope had given birth to a son and that a wet nurse had already been hired.

"What a shameless woman. To bring a new person into Winston Mansion without your permission? It's like she's abusing your authority!"

Anna got angry.

"It's a hassle to hire a nanny. Go to the butler and tell him that I said you can bring in that nanny."

"Aren't you offended?"

"It's a good thing because there are fewer things to worry about."

"Oh, and Madam too."

Anna couldn't be more angry when I said that. She headed straight for Winston's mansion.

I snickered as I watched Anna's back as she left.

'Penelope has finally reached the Duke of Linchester.'

I had discovered the existence of the nanny sooner than Cedric had told me. She was also the Duke of Linchester's.

"The Count of Hudson is gossiping about Viscountess Winston among the ladies. You'd better watch out. Even at the ball the other day, Sir Edward and the Count of Hudson were talking about you. You know who Sir Edward is, right? The Duke of Linchester's second son, Sir Edward. He must have been talking about the Countess of Highbury's miscarriage. By the way, did you know that the nanny now at the Count of Hudson's mansion was the one the Countess of Highbury had originally intended to hire?"

I believed from the beginning that Penelope and the Duke of Linchester would one day be connected.

They had a common enemy, and their social circle was narrow enough for them to recognize each other.

People who do not hesitate to use others would not hesitate to join hands when they recognize that they have a common enemy.

Penelope was the bait that I had set for the Duke of Linchester.
