EBS - Chapter 15 < The Empress's Government >

A tiring pain.

Demios trusted the words of the government he had only met for a short time, but he did not trust Sepia's words.

Even though she had promised to ignore them, she still felt foolish for being hurt.

"I've said it many times, but I have never had a government."

"Well."

Despite her firm words, Demios's attitude did not change.

He smiled, twisting the corners of his mouth.

"Surprisingly, the Empress would do that, but... If you're just having fun, then whatever. But don't get close to Duke Leopold."

This was a warning.

He wouldn't let her get away with hanging out with the Duke. He could say this without knowing that Sepia and the Duke already knew each other. Whether or not she knew Roxanne's true identity. Suddenly, she felt rebellious.

As the Emperor, he could interfere with the Empress's affairs, but he had no authority to interfere with Sepia's relationships with others.

"Why should I do that?"

"What?"

Demios’s eyes, which had expected an answer that she understood, furrowed.

“Your Majesty has no right to interfere with who I date.”

Demios was momentarily speechless at the cold expression he had never seen before.

It was the first time Sepia had shown such a firm reaction.

At that moment, the music stopped.

The first song that the royal couple had to dance had ended.

Sepia bowed her knees slightly and stepped back.

Demios, who had come to his senses late, left the dance hall.

But that was all. His gaze was still fixed on Sepia.

The fierce gaze was stinging.

Sepia turned her head away from him.

It was just before the second song was played. Titi, who had been waiting for Demios to request a dance, could no longer endure it and approached him.

“Your Majesty, is there a problem? You look pale.”

Titi looked up at him with a worried face.

With a body smaller than Sepia’s, her skin was so pale that it looked like it would crumble at any moment.

The always fragile and dependable attitude was the epitome of a great female.

Demios reached out to his white deer.

“...It’s nothing. Let’s go.”

“I’m happy.”

Titi smiled brightly and grabbed his hand.

As music began to play, other nobles gathered in the dance hall with their partners.

Sepia stepped back from the center and watched the two dancing.

Unlike Sepia, who had been frozen the entire time they were dancing, Titi’s face was filled with happiness.

Titi babbled something with an adorable expression. Then, Demios’s tightly shut lips gently fell apart.

‘Is that why he likes her?’

Suddenly, she thought that Demios might not be getting close to Titi because of his name.

The nobles around them were also admiring how well the two of them matched, but soon they noticed Sepia and kept their mouths shut.

The second dance time was over.

Demios escorted Titi to the outside of the center and soon headed somewhere with the male nobles.

They were all carnivorous beasts who were deeply involved in the affairs of the empire.

As if they had been waiting for this moment, the beasts gathered around Titi, who was left alone.

“Hello. Young Lady Titi. I can’t tell you how happy I am to see you like this.”

“Me too. I really wanted to say hello!”

Most of them were filled with flattery, trying to get in line somehow or being curious.

Titi greeted them with a shy smile.

“I couldn’t do the debutante because I’m not feeling well. Thank you for welcoming me like this.”

Everyone knew that Titi had belatedly joined the Count Louvre.

Before that, Titi had not been treated as a noble and had not been properly educated.

The more powerful a family was, the more particular they were about their birth status, but no one among those gathered pointed that out.

“Haha, is that so important? If you really care, you can decide to make today the debutante. What do you think?”

“Is that okay?”

Titi smiled brightly.

Her innocent smile, like a silver bell, was stealing the hearts of several young people.

The friendly atmosphere was about to ripen.

“Oh, our Titi.”

“My lovely daughter.”

A couple who appeared through the crowd hugged Titi tightly.

Titi, surprised, checked on them and soon smiled brightly.

“Ah, father. Mother.”

Count Edro Louvre and Countess Delcy. They were the Deer family that adopted Titi.

“Thank you for taking care of our Titi.”

“She’s a shy child, but seeing her smile makes me feel much better.”

Born to ordinary local nobles.

However, their status rose rapidly simply because they took in a distant relative who had the name of the emperor.

Treating a woman they normally wouldn’t have been interested in as their own daughter.

It was laughable, but several quick-witted nobles immediately followed the Count and his wife’s lead.

“Thanks to you two, Lady Titi grew up well without any shadows.”

“Oh my, you’re flattering me. Haha.”

Madame Delcy waved her fan as if embarrassed.

She seemed very happy that the nobles of the capital were trying to please her.

Rumor has it that she’s preparing to move to the center of the capital.

It wasn’t easy to establish a base in the capital while having a fief in a faraway place.

Why would there be a distinction between local and capital ranks among the same nobles?

The Count of Louvre also stayed around Titi and enjoyed the changed treatment to the fullest.

However, some looked down on them.

“Oh my, you’ve just created a government and you’re already campaigning.”

“That’s right. You’re raising a grown woman as your own daughter after marrying her. It’s not funny.”

The noble ladies from deep-rooted families were bound to look down on Titi.

The other ladies who agreed nodded.

Sepia remained silent amidst the clearly divided factions.

Dame Damil, who had drawn the other ladies’ agreement, and the civet cat Suin Levro, approached Sepia, perhaps worried about her.

“Don’t worry too much, Your Majesty. We’re not even mutuals, and there’s no concubine system in the imperial family. That young lady, she’ll never be anything other than a government official.”

Whenever she would make a hard look and glare at Titi, the corners of her eyes would soften as she stood in front of Sepia.

The reason why the proud civet cat was so humble was because she had been in Sepia’s good graces in the past.

Sepia smiled gently, knowing that she was concerned.

“Thank you for your concern, but I’m fine.”

“...Oh, anyway, all males are the same. Even Raktan can’t control his mind when he sees a pretty water lily.”

Mrs. Levro grumbled while talking about her husband.

The Countess Damil was famous for her happy marriage. She was still grumbling because she was still in love with her husband.

Sepia felt a little better because the cute cat was grumbling.

In the meantime, the topic of conversation between Titi and the people around her had changed.

“But Duke Leopold, he's much more handsome than I imagined, which really surprised me.”

“I thought that His Majesty was the most perfect male in the empire.”

In terms of both appearance and ability.

The young ladies who were thinking of the Duke blushed.

“I like the Duke better. His Majesty... How should I put it? He's just too beautiful.”

The other ladies who agreed quickly nodded their heads.

“That’s right. More than most women. They feel intimidated when standing next to His Majesty. But I think the Duke will protect the females.”

“I just think he looks bad.”

“Oh my. Not at all. But I understand how you feel.”

The conversation blossomed on the topic of male Alphas.

It was natural for the Emperor and the Duke to be compared.

They were both of similar age and were born with the blood of the divine beast.

It was perhaps natural for the Emperor to be wary of blood relatives who had accomplished great feats.

“There were many other great knights besides the Duke.”

It was natural for them to covet Alphas, but many ladies aimed for males with potential instead of trees they couldn’t climb.

The other ladies nodded their heads in agreement.

Among them, the female falconer was already searching for prey with sharp eyes.

The Countess, who was listening to the ladies’ chatter, swayed her body.

“Young ladies, don’t be like that. How about the eldest son of our Louvre family? Although he couldn’t attend today, he grew up to be a son I’m proud of,”

“Ah, Young lord Louvre... Of course. I heard he’s a good man.”

Lady Mae reluctantly nodded.

The flow of conversation was interrupted. The young ladies exchanged awkward glances and covered their mouths with their fans.

The Count and Countess of Louvre were staying at a luxury hotel in the capital before settling into their official residence.

Since the guests were their main customers, rumors about the incidents that occurred there quickly spread through social circles.
