AWSIL - Chapter 24

'I have no relation with your maid.'

Cecilia stared at herself through the vanity mirror, thinking of the man who had finally fallen asleep in her bedroom the night before.

Seeing how he directly explained it and denied the relationship, it seems like he really doesn't care. Then why is he keeping Ilya by his side?

“I’ll put your hair up like this.”

“Mrada  Monte said, tossing up her neatly combed hair. Cecilia nodded dryly.

“Your Highness, I think you should wear a more extravagant dress...”

After finishing her hair, Abby, who had been adjusting her ornaments and clothes, added a displeased look. Cecilia was wearing only a simple necklace and earrings with a plain dress.

“It’s not an outside event, it’s just a dinner party.”

“That’s true, but...”

Madame Monte poked Abby's ribs to silence her, as she had already spoken to Cecilia once.

“Your Highness, dinner is ready.”

A voice outside the door announced dinner time. Cecilia stopped talking and went outside.

“My father said that His Highness the Grand Duke was truly an amazing person.”

The road to the restaurant was quiet, but as they got closer, she could hear an exaggerated voice. It was Ilya's voice.

“From then on, I also worked in banking and accounting....”

“I guess I’m late. I’m sorry, Your Highness.”

Cecilia appeared, interrupting Ilya's words. Ilya jumped up from where she was sitting, and Eden, who had been listening to her, raised his head.

“Sit over here, Cecilia.”

Eden naturally got up from his seat and sat Cecilia down next to him. Meanwhile, Ilya took a look at Cecilia's plain attire and smiled leisurely.

“Your dress is pretty, Ilya.”

“It’s a dress that my father gave me as a birthday present, so I really wanted to wear it since I was with important people.”

When Cecilia complimented the dress, Ilya smiled and made excuses. Cecilia smiled like a kind host, even though she knew what was going on.

“You look great with Ilya. Don’t you think so, Your Highness?”

Cecilia turned to Eden and asked. Eden, who had been quenching his thirst with water, put down his glass and stared at Ilya.

“It suits you well.”

And he answered shortly. Ilya laughed heartily at the compliment. Cecilia held the napkin on her thigh with a calm smile on her face.

Look at these.

She thought she wouldn't mind if Eden and Ilya made eye contact right in front of her, but when she actually saw them in a similar situation, her stomach churned. It was so bad she wanted to spit out the piece of meat she was chewing in her mouth.

“By the way, I think both Your Highness and Ilya would be surprised that I suddenly arranged this event today.”

But Cecilia pretended to be indifferent. She just spoke softly and swirled her wine glass around.

“I was wondering if there were any particular families that I should pay attention to since we will be holding a birthday party for Your Highness soon.”

“Do whatever you want, Cecilia.”

“Then I will select those families that serve Your Highness.”

At those words, Eden let out a short sigh.

“If that’s the case, Miss Nova already asked me. Didn’t she pass it on to you?”

Ilya, who had been staring at Eden with sparkling eyes the whole time, flinched.

“I’ve never heard of that.”

Cecilia watched the scene, sipping her wine. Ilya carefully observed Cecilia's expression and made an excuse.

“I felt sorry to ask Your Highness everything, so I wanted to ask His Highness the Grand Duke directly and make a list to bring to him.”

It was funny how she made excuses saying that she did it because she didn't want to make a mistake or bother her. But Cecilia knew that she had been going in and out of Eden's office so often. It seemed like her act of trying to look like an easy opponent to Ilya had completely worked.

“I was short-sighted. I apologize, Your Highness.”

The sight of her bowing her head and apologizing was pitiful in a plausible way. It made Cecilia wonder if she wanted to play the role of a government official being persecuted by the government official.

“You were a bit short-sighted.”

Cecilia brought her glass to her lips again and spoke softly. When Cecilia, who would normally have said that it was okay, subtly criticized herself, Ilya’s expression also became subtle.

“I was originally going to tell you yesterday, but I was a bit surprised by what happened yesterday...”

And Madame Monte's mistake secretly provoked Cecilia. Cecilia laughed briefly.

“I’m sorry about that. Madame Monte is not very good at writing, so she made a mistake.”

Of course, it was right to apologize. It was a noble virtue to admit and apologize for the mistakes of one's subordinates as if they were one's own.

“Instead, this time when I go to Laner Island, I will leave Ilya behind at the mansion so that you do not feel uncomfortable. Please understand.”

However, she did not forget to target Ilya's attitude of pointing out trivial things, especially the faults of the person she was serving.

“It’s okay. His Highness the Grand Duke has already conveyed his apology.”

Even though she could not have understood, Ilya answered shamelessly.

“His Highness hastened to finish the matter, fearing that things would get worse and harm would come to Madame Monte.”

Cecilia spoke to Eden with a moved face. Eden smiled kindly.

“Because she is someone I care for like family.”

Then he snatched the glass from Cecilia, whose face was starting to blush slightly. She had already finished her third glass.

“Your face is red, you should stop drinking.”

“It’s still okay.”

“If you don’t want to suffer tomorrow, stop drinking.”

Eden gently comforted the whining Cecilia.

“If you want to drink more, let’s drink comfortably together in the bedroom.”

A brief look of envy crossed Ilya's face. The bedroom was an area that Ilua could never possibly overlook.

“Miss Nova.”

"Yes?"

“I think we’re done talking about the banquet, so let’s go back after we finish eating. I’ll get up first.”

Eden lifted Cecilia up, signaling the end of their meeting.

"Ah!"

As Cecilia staggered around, pretending to be drunk, and leaned against his chest, Eden hugged her.

“Be careful. Lean on me.”

Cecilia felt Ilya's gaze fall on the man's chest against which she was leaning and on the strong arms wrapped around her waist.

She couldn't help but laugh. Cecilia impulsively reached out, cupped Eden's chin, and pulled it down. Naturally, his soft lips were pressed down.

"OMG."

Unlike the other servants who were blithely pretending not to notice, Ilya gasped in surprise. After a few seconds, Eden naturally took Cecilia’s lips off and lifted her body into his arms. It seemed like he thought she had lost consciousness.

Eden turned away from Ilya without saying a word. Cecilia, who was in his arms, narrowed her eyes and stared over his strong shoulder.

“I am fine, Your Highness...”

Ilya, with a dejected expression, was staring at Eden's back. To anyone who saw it, it was funny to see her coveting someone else's belongings.

"Oh."

Madam Monte's eyes widened in surprise as she saw Cecilia cross the threshold of the bedroom in Eden's arms.

“Change your clothes so that you can sleep comfortably...”

At the very moment when he was ordering Cecilia to be put down on the bed and changed into comfortable pajamas, Cecilia held onto Eden's sleeve tightly and wouldn't let go.

“You said we should have another drink in the bedroom.”

“And you can’t even control your body?”

“Are you going?”

As Cecilia hung on, Eden let out a small sigh.

“I'll be here.”

Today, she planned to make sure he never left her bedroom. A man who takes his drunk wife to the bedroom and stays out of the house until the next day, you can see how rumors will spread.

Then Ilya would tremble with a sense of defeat toward Cecilia, who had the man she couldn't have. Cecilia wanted to scratch Ilya, even though she knew it was childish.

“For now, everyone go out and wait.”

At Eden's command, Madame Monte bowed her head and quietly retreated out of the bedroom. Eden sat on the edge of the bed without removing his held sleeve and looked down at Cecilia.

Cecilia resisted the urge to let go of his sleeve and turn away. Enduring Eden’s silent gaze was harder than she had thought.

“Why did you drink so much alcohol when you couldn’t even drink it?”

Eden asked. Cecilia blinked slowly. She wasn't really drunk, but she was trying to move slowly, so it was an action that came out without her knowing.

“Do you like Ilya?”

When Cecilia asked directly, Eden frowned.

"No."

And he answered immediately. It seemed as if he didn't even feel like saying something like that.

“Then why are you being so nice to her? Why are you being so kind...”

But the faint discomfort was completely washed away by the whimper that followed. Eden gave a short laugh.

“You said you had no relationship with Ilya.”

“So you’re hurt?”

Eden gently stroked Cecilia's face as she lay on the bed. His touch was warm and gentle, just like Madame Monte's.

“I just wanted to see how far your maid would go.”

“...”

“If you don’t like it, I won’t do it anymore.”

Eden whispered softly. Cecilia nodded quietly.

“I’m sleepy now.”

“...”

“I want to sleep in Your Highness’s arms.”

Eden paused and looked down at Cecilia. It seemed as if he couldn't believe what he was hearing. Cecilia whined and pulled him towards her, forcing him onto the bed.

While Eden blinked stupidly, Cecilia crawled into his arms, biting his arm and closing her eyes.

“...”

Although he was embarrassed, Eden did not push Cecilia away. The faint scent of wine mixed with her exhaled breath and Cecilia’s body scent stimulated him like that night.

Eden reached out and brushed away Cecilia's hair that had fallen halfway across her face. Ironically, his hand was shaking slightly as it touched his woman.
