TPITT - Chapter 184

"What?!"

The discontented retort came from Brigitte's mouth. She approached with brisk strides.

“She's alive?! Is that true?”

It was a ferocity that, if true, would kill her with her own hands. Michael's cloudy eyes, on the other hand, had returned.

Not only Michael and Brigitte, but everyone gathered at the lake wanted an explanation. As if they were the representatives.

The one who bit the fish was Brigitte.

“How can she live without breathing?”

“It is presumed that the body has entered a state of hibernation for a while to recover.”

“What? Humans hibernate? You mean, a poisoned apple got stuck in your throat? This isn’t a fairy tale, how is that possible?”

Brigitte, unlike someone who had praised fairytale endings earlier, grumbled.

“Is this a magical phenomenon... Oh, and by the way, Her Highness the Princess was not poisoned.”

“What, what did you say?”

Brigitte was puzzled. Was this not Rosenite's work? Somehow, Brigitte's plans to become a fisherman seemed to be cracking.

“Then... what happened?”

“I think it would be better to see it for yourself rather than just listen to it. I can read the mana energy flowing through the Princess’s heart. Please take a look.”

On the ground, Michael was still staring at Brigitte with a wild-eyed stare.

“...I will just confirm. I swear on the name of Brigitte Agnes Hadelamide.”

Brigitte took a rare step back. At the moment, confirmation was more important than asserting authority.

"All right."

The imperial family put their name on it. There were even people around to notarize it. Michael agreed, figuring that if she tried any tricks, she'd be killed before then.

Brigitte's hand touched Eve's chest. Her reaction was not much different from Morien's.

“Oh, my God! You're not a homunculus, you're a human!”

The people around them were very curious as to why two people were making such a fuss in a row. Morien finally gave an explanation.

“The 7th Princess's mana core has grown rapidly, and the burning sensation that originated from her heart and spread throughout her body was a kind of growing pains. However, since this is too much for a human body to bear, it seems that... mana core has triggered its defense mechanism and forced itself to hibernate.”

“Oh, no! How can a kid who was nothing special just yesterday become like this in one day?!”

Brigitte protested in a chorus of frustration. She was quite adept at magic herself and had a lot to say about the situation.

“This is ridiculous. Did she drive philosopher's stone's stone into her heart without my knowledge, or boil a whole world tree root? This is something that would never happen without the help of a divine artifact.”

“But it actually happened.”

“Ugh!”

“In any case, I must congratulate you, your sister, for she has come back to life and has taken her first step into the ranks of the sages.”

The kind and gentle old woman's congratulatory remark struck Brigitte hard on the back of the head.

'What a sage! Eve is a sage!'

For the throne of the Hadelamid Empire, the quality of one's alchemy was the most important factor in evaluation above all else. As it was, it was self-evident that Eve would be given extra leeway to take the sage initiation course. This posed a great threat to Brigitte, who had already fallen from grace.

Brigitte looked for someone to vent her anger on in her anxious state. The first thing that caught her eye was Peony.

“You! What on earth did you feed Eve?!”

“Uh, things that are good for the body and vitality.”

“Make a list right now!”

“Yes? Yes, yes.”

Meanwhile, Michael also checked Eve's mana core.

It felt like a vessel containing such vast mana that it would be believable even if it was called a homunculus.

“If a human’s core grows rapidly, won’t the body be able to withstand it?”

“Yes. After all, they are different from homunculus, which are made as vessels to hold mana.”

The diagnosis of growing pains seemed to put Eve to sleep, and it was time for Michael to get some rest. There was Brigitte's voice, striking a candle.

“But she's not breathing and her heart isn’t beating. Is there no way something could go wrong?”

It was a tone that seemed to hope that something would go wrong. At that moment, Michael's eyes were about to turn fierce again.

“Phuha!”

There was a gasp of breath.

“Eve!”

“Your Highness!”

"Your Highness!"

There was no need for Morien to answer. Eve herself dashed Brigitte's vain hopes.

Everyone gathered around Eve, who was slowly regaining consciousness and senses.

"Ugh..."

My heart was beating so fast it felt like it was going to break through my ribs. The sensation was a violent reminder that I was alive. I struggled to open my eyes, thinking.

'I don't think I'm dead again. Could this be my third life?'

That means Michael gives me another chance in the second round.

Does that mean I went through the same hell as the first time to make it? I suddenly came to my senses.

I suddenly raised my upper body and screamed.

“Michael..."

Then a voice shouted out in response.

“I’m here, Eve!”

“Huh, huh?”

Michael's arms wrapped tightly around me as if to prove with his whole body that he was by my side.

“I’m glad to be alive. I’m really glad.”

“Michael?”

“Yes, Eve. No, Your Highness. Here I am. Right next to you... Please rest assured..."

It was a strangled voice. I wanted to stroke Michael's back, but I wasn't quite strong enough yet.

All I could do right now was blink and look around over Michael's shoulder.

There are a lot of people with faces that make it hard to tell whether they are crying or laughing.

Except for that, the scenery was unchanged from the end of the second round. Thanks to this, I was able to quickly grasp the current situation.

“I'm not dead!

I still felt feverish, but better than before. Perhaps it was because Michael had carried me and dipped me in the cold autumn lake.

First of all, it seemed urgent to create an environment for conversation. Peony happened to come forward.

“Sir Agneto, Her Highness is suffocating.”

"Ah."

Only then did Michael loosen his arms a little.

“It’s cold, Michael.”

I shivered, not having the strength to use my warming magic.

Michael immediately took action by finding the Nightray and taking it into his hands.

The effect of the Warming Stone was transmitted to Michael and to me in his arms. This gave Michael a legitimate excuse to continue holding me in public.

“What... happened...?”

Eve was soon able to converse, perhaps due to the influence of the World Water, and Peony paraphrased Morien's explanation in response to my question.

“It’s not poison. It’s just that your mana core has grown suddenly and you’re going through growing pains. That’s really fortunate, Your Highness.”

“Mana Core?”

I put my hand on my left chest, which still felt hot, and regained consciousness.

I focused on it. There was a huge change that made my eyes pop out.

“What? Really? The amount of mana is almost at the level of a master?'

At this point, even a great sage in his later years would be able to aim for it. It seemed like I would be able to finish preparing for old age while taking on the challenge of becoming the Crown Princess.

'But why did it turn out like this?'

I drank the World Water Tea and came back to life, only to find that my mana core had grown rapidly. I couldn't figure out what was going on.

“Evienrose.”

At that moment, a voice as eerie as a ghostly voice spoiled the touching atmosphere. Soon Brigitte's interrogation began.

“What kind of artifact did you get?”

"Yes?"

“Don't question me. I've only seen mana core growth like yours in books. Isn't such growth impossible without the aid of some sort of artifact?”

“Oh, really...? I see. It’s the help of the artifact... But what artifact is it... ?”

“Ha, don’t be so daunted. It’s disgusting, just like a person born in the same year as Rosie.”

“...Why is Rosie here again?”

By the way, I didn't see Rosenit. I was curious for a moment, but for now, Brigitte was the problem.

“Tell me exactly what you found out without me knowing!”

Blinded by jealousy, Brigitte kept yelling at the patient.

“Your Highness the Third Princess, with all due respect, our Princess is ill. We'll have to ask her to speak later.”

“Young Lady Granice is right. Your Highness now is not the right time to ask questions.”

Not only Peony, who is Eve's confidant but also Elijah, who is Brigitte's side, tried to stop her. Of course, Brigitte showed no sign of listening.

I raised my hand to stop them.

“It’s okay, Peony. It’s okay, Sir Halstein.”

Though I had a fever and was dizzy, the only person who could compete with Brigitte was her fellow Princess, that was me.

“Please don’t misunderstand, Sister. What I’ve discovered is nothing special other than the World Tree.”

“Ah, the World Tree. It looks like you boiled the roots and consumed them. Did it taste good when you ate it alone?”

“No... I don’t want to eat things like tentacles..."

In fact, I was the one who was confused.

'I made some World Tree tea and drank it, but I didn't drink it alone. And the effect would have been only a slightly better level of purification than lake water. Why did my core really grow?'

Then Morien stepped forward.

“It must be the influence of the World Tree. The World Tree not only heals and purifies, but it is also a symbol of growth, so it is logically connected to the growth of the core.”
