TMD - Chapter 44 < Hell Gate (8) >

“Belled?”

“...Just a little bit, no.”

He let out a hot breath and suddenly reached out to me.

“...!”

The moment I thought the warmth was wrapping around my back and waist, my body tilted over him as if collapsing. The sound of the hem of my clothes covering the bed and swooshing rang clearly in my ears. Belled’s breath touched my startled shoulder. I seemed to freeze. My heart was beating wildly as if it was racing forward.

“Will you just let me stay like this for a moment?”

His face was touching my shoulder, so I couldn’t see his expression. However, his voice sounded very, very tired. I could feel his trembling movements. I held his head in my hands and hugged him.

“What happened?”

Belled shook his head no matter how much I asked.

“Nothing.”

“But why...”

Otherwise, why does this person seem so anxious?

At first, I saw Belled as a demon who didn’t seem anxious. A confident demon who seemed to have everything in his hands.

But now, he looked different. He looks anxious.

I thought. In the meantime, Belled dug deeper into my shoulder. I felt his sharp and cool nose brushing past my mind.

Thump, thump.

And my heart beat even faster.

I couldn’t tell if it was worry or if it was because of the contact I could feel clearly, so I couldn’t continue.

“It must be because of magic.”

Belled said then.

“Ah...”

If he lacked magic, I could fill it. He said that magic flowed out of me.

If it was a problem that could be solved, that would be good, but I couldn’t understand why my subtle feelings were overlapping.

“If you stay like this, it’ll be okay.”

I tried to nod at those words. But Belled wasn’t finished talking.

“...That’s what I thought.”

My movements stopped.

“But I thought I couldn’t stand not seeing you.”

If it was simply because of magic, it would have been enough to come near me.

He let out a deep breath again. As if he was drunk on something.

Was there something that happened that he didn’t want to talk about?

Because I’m a Saintess, and even if it wasn’t because of that, he still couldn’t trust me.

...That could be the case.

I bit my lip as I thought.

But then, Belled, who was trying to catch his breath, suddenly said.

“I heard the report during the day.”

“If it’s during the day...”

I was still confused about day and night here. It was daytime when the lights were on outside.

...What did I do during the day?

“You asked Stolas about the future, right?”

“Ah.”

That’s right. It was when I nodded. Belled continued.

“...About your lifespan.”

“Yes?”

Lifespan? I blinked.

I had asked about ten years later... but it felt strangely distorted.

“Are you sick?”

He slightly distanced himself from me and covered my face with both hands. I shook my head, looking at his eyes that seemed darker than usual, perhaps because they were covered by my shadow.

“No.”

“Then why did you ask that?”

I realized that there had been a misunderstanding at the somewhat hasty answer.

“That’s not why I asked about ten years later.”

“Is that so?”

The answer came back quickly again. As if he was longing for an answer.

“That’s...”

I thought that his eyes, which usually looked relaxed, seemed to be trembling a little.

Looking at those eyes, I said as if possessed.

“I was just curious whether I could live here for a long time, whether I... would survive.”

I thought that if I stayed here if nothing happened, I could live ten more years.

However, I couldn’t just ask that question. Because I knew that he would report it to Belled.

I said that because I was afraid that he might think I had other feelings. Who knew that it would lead to another misunderstanding?

“... Is it true?”

He asked in a somewhat softened voice.

Then he gently turned me to his side.

“Are you really okay?”

“Yes.”

I nodded firmly, but Belled examined me again.

“Humans’ bodies are too weak to be at ease.”

Unlike him, who had a body that could not even die as if it were a curse, humans.

His hand, which had been trembling like that, gently stroked the back of my head. The warmth that spread from his hand seemed to run from my neck to my entire body.

“Can I take a look myself?”

As he said that, his eyes met mine. He smiled slowly at me, who opened my mouth slightly.

“I’m a suspicious person by nature.”

“That’s it."

the thought of being suspected touched my heart even more than the thought of his smile returning slightly.

How could one’s heart flutter this much? Just by one person’s expression.

While I was at a loss for words, Belled slightly raised his body.

Sigh.

He kissed the tip of my nose out loud, looked at me for a moment, and buried his body in my shoulder.

“...!”

I let out a short breath without realizing it. My head rose on its own.

“Are you out of breath?”

Belled responded immediately. I shook my head.

That wasn’t it.

But Belled repeatedly wrapped his arms around the back of my head as if he was worried. As he did so, our bodies became closer.

“...!”

His knee dug into my slightly raised legs.

Through Belled’s shirt, his firm muscles were glimpsed. I unconsciously glanced at him, then shut my eyes tightly.

“Are you okay?”

Worries poured out again and again.

Really, I’m okay. I’m fine.

I tried to hold back my breath that was about to rise without realizing it, thinking that he might be worried.

“Make yourself comfortable.”

Belled, who quickly noticed this, whispered in my ear.

The soft words he whispered were truly words full of consideration. I unconsciously gripped the bedsheet tightly.

“...I will.”

My voice trembled slightly. I tried to confuse whether it was tension that was making me tremble or the joy or anticipation before I got what I wanted.

Belled, who was watching me, whispered.

“You’re hot, Beryl.”

“...That’s it,”

I couldn’t bring myself to say. It’s because of you.

But Belled’s hand repeatedly touched my forehead.

“You have a fever.”

Warmth was added to the fever.

“That’s not it,”

I muttered. I couldn’t bring myself to say that from the moment you touched me, I kept having strange expectations.

Expectations that I never knew I could have in my life.

“No?”

Sigh.

Belled asked, kissing my nose. As if telling me to calm down and talk. In other words, as if he was going to hear the answer.

I eventually spoke in a small voice.

“...It’s because it’s night, that’s it.”

Maybe because he was absent-minded, he just looked at me with concern and couldn’t tell what I was thinking.

I finally spoke.

“Because it’s night, with you, that’s it.”

My face turned red as I said that. Belled was silent for a moment.

“...”

Belled’s low laughter penetrated me as I turned my head to the side, unable to meet his gaze.

“Is that so, then?”

After gently tickling my nose again, he asked.

“Is it because of me?”

His voice was much lighter than before as he asked.

“Am I making you like this?”

He whispered, placing his hand on my cheek and my flushed ear.

“You’re trembling, with that flushed face."

He lowered his hand and grabbed mine. His hand tightly gripped the bedsheet.

“Is it because of me that you’re holding onto something as if you’re suppressing something?”

I nodded slightly. How could I deny it when my body reacted first every time he touched me?

Belled laughed again.

“I told you not to hold back. I didn’t mean to teach you how to hold back.”

He kissed my ear. His lips touched my soft earlobe, and then the warmth that brushed down my neck as if it were going to devour me met mine.

“...!”

Belled whispered to me as I trembled at the sensation.

“I was so focused on something else that I didn’t have time to look at you.”

A strong arm supported the slightly raised body. The two people became close without any gap between them.

“Finally, are you starting to see desire?”

“...!”

Those words. My face felt as if it was burning hot.

It meant that he had figured out what I wanted, what I wanted that I couldn’t deny no matter how much I wanted to.

“Do you want the night?”

His direct question fell on me.
