Rabbit Hunt (8)
The men poured out of the guard post.
The dark street was filled with the heavy breathing of the agents. Looking around, the escapees had disappeared without a trace.
Reynold clicked his tongue into his mouth.
"Five of you follow Louis to the inn where they were staying, while the rest of you search the roads leading out of the city. They haven't gone far yet, so hurry!"
"Yes, Captain!"
The guards split into two groups and dispersed. The loud clatter of horse hooves echoed through the quiet alley.
The four people who had been hiding in the shadows of the guardhouse building until then appeared under the moonlight.
Kalit gestured toward the alley where the guards had disappeared.
"You did well to do as I said, didn't you?"
"Yeah, you're good."
It was Kalit who insisted that they should take their time and move slowly.
Rahon answered with a snicker and looked around.
"What about Baba?"
"Well, I can't see him again."
"I'm afraid someone might think he's an assassin, so he's acting unpredictable... Let's go."
"Mr. Hugh, where should I go?"
"Oh, let me check the map for a moment."
Hugh looked at the second map he had drawn on Nicola's shirt and underwear to get his bearings. It was halfway between the inn they had been staying at and the road out of the city.
"Um... Follow me."
The four men began to walk slowly as if they were out for a walk.
"Ah... I feel suffocated."
Rahon took off his hood.
Kalit laughed quietly as he looked at the beautiful face revealed under the moonlight.
"Why are you laughing?"
"I remember the expressions on the bounty hunters' faces when Rahon showed up at the restaurant earlier."
"Ah, damn it, it occurred to me too! Ouch, that's dirty."
"It must have been really annoying to live with that face."
"You're no pushover either."
"Not as much as Rahon. I'm only popular with the ladies."
Rahon's gaze turned fierce at the thought that he was popular with men too.
Nicola and Hugh, who were watching the two, sighed.
They couldn't understand why Kalit, who was polite and courteous to everyone else, was the only one who started to tease Rajon.
It wasn't just Kalit who was like that. As the saying goes, you have to clap your hands to make a sound, and Rahon was only sensitive to Kalit.
Stories that would have been ignored if told by someone else were never overlooked when they came out of Kalit's mouth.
So they thought the two of them really didn't get along, but then they got into a fight again when they escaped from prison.
Even now, only Rahon and Kalit look relaxed. The fact that they are arguing like that means they are relaxed.
Nicola and Hugh feel a chill down their spines as if the guards are going to chase them at any moment.
Nicola asked, scratching his head.
"You two don't seem to be nervous. I'm getting goosebumps thinking I'll be locked up in prison again."
"I'm sure Kalit will use his brain to solve this problem."
"Rahon will probably help me escape with his power again."
The cold gazes of Rahon and Kalit collided in midair. Just as the war of nerves between the two men was about to begin again. Hugh opened his mouth.
"We're almost there."
Before they knew it, they were near the place where they had promised to meet Millenia. They could meet her if they just passed through this alley where darkness had fallen.
A smile appeared on Rahon and Kalit's lips without them even realizing it. Their footsteps quickened.
Soon, a luxurious carriage appeared in front of the four people. The moment they stopped in front of the unfamiliar carriage, someone got off the coachman's seat.
Ian was about to wave at them with a faint smile on his face when Millenia spoke urgently.
"Wait a minute, I hear the sound of horse hooves!"
As soon as she finished speaking, a loud shout erupted from the entrance to the alley.
"Captain, here they are! We found them!"
"Catch them!"
The guards finally found them. Ian quickly untied the four horses that were tied to the carriage.
"Run!"
The four men ran like madmen. Almost simultaneously, they all mounted their horses and Hugh sat down on the coachman's seat.
He swung the reins roughly.
"Hey!"
Heeeeeeiing!
The carriage sped along at a frightening speed. Reynold's chilling voice shook the alley.
"Hey, you guys! Stop!"
The carriage picked up speed even more. But no matter how fast it was, it could not beat the horse.
The distance between the guards and the carriage gradually narrowed.
Reynolds ordered the attack.
"All fire! Target!"
As the carriage came into range, the men running at the front simultaneously drew their bows.
It was incredibly quick and coordinated for someone who was under the command of an incompetent and corrupt captain of the guards.
Swish!
The first arrow hit the carriage. Several more arrows followed.
Nicola's face turned pale.
"Oh God, look upon your servant!"
"Idiot! Instead of looking for God, drive a horse!"
An arrow also passed by Rahon, who was getting angry.
"Your High!"
"I'll take care of Rahon!"
Ian and Kalit, who had exchanged signals, rode their horses back as promised. The arrows flying at Nicola and Rahon bounced off their swords.
As Rahon ran after him, he glanced at Kalit, who was protecting him. Then he pulled the reins and guided his horse between Ian and Kalit.
"We can't run away like this! We'll be caught soon!"
"That doesn't mean we can use force against innocent people!"
"I know! I think I can stop it!"
A furrow formed between Ian's eyebrows.
"What are you going to do now?"
"Don't get hurt for the time being."
Rahon smiled and raised his hand.
A halo of light started from his hand and formed a semicircle, brightly coloring the black night sky.
Reynold's eyes shot open as a sudden burst of light appeared as if something had exploded.
"Attack! Turn over!"
Before the men could even turn their horses' heads after hearing Reynold's order, a tidal wave of light suddenly swept over them.
"...!"
The agents who had been crouching to brace themselves for the impact raised their heads in bewilderment.
Because nothing happened.
One of the members looked around and suddenly put his hand on his waist. The back pain that had been bothering him for a long time was completely gone.
"Huh? Why doesn't my back... hurt?"
"Oh? My knee doesn't hurt either! I got hurt while training the day before yesterday and it was sore, but look at this! It's completely healed!"
"Hey, what's going on here?"
"Could it be that he was not a conman but a real 'savior'?"
Reynold licked his lips as he listened to the murmur of the men. The wound he had received from the captain of the guard had completely healed.
At that moment, the image of the man taking off his hood and calmly saying his name came to mind.
"Rahon Shancrecia."
Then, does that mean that the one who was called the First Prince was really him? After all, they are not scammers.
Reynold gritted his teeth.
Didn't the captain know?
"That can't be true.'"
He asked to go through the ID verification process and got slapped in the face by the captain.
It was clear that he had accused them of being frauds even though he clearly knew their true identities.
"I got tricked."
Reynold's gaze was fixed on the tiny Kalite.
While the agents were running around in confusion, they were running hard, gaining distance.
But it's not so far away that they have to give up the chase.
There was a carriage over there, so they could catch it if they went as fast as they could.
"Power off!"
The men stopped talking and looked at Reynolds.
Now that they had finally realized the identity of the person they were chasing, their faces all darkened.
Reynold opened his heavy lips.
"Stop tracking."
***
Even after we noticed that the guards had given up the pursuit, we did not stop.
We left Nokron Pass before dawn and ran until we had time to eat.
Another day passed like that.
Nadia, who had become so accustomed to motion sickness that she could even knit in the carriage, suddenly pointed to the carriage window.
"Miss, it's Adenburg!"
"..."
I looked out the window.
Adenburg, the land of travelers and the closest city to the capital was fast approaching.
We will reach the capital in at least half a day.
I quietly closed my eyes. Unlike EIdern, the sun, which held heat, warmed my eyelids lazily.
I'm starting to wonder what Oslo is doing now.
'You probably already know that we escaped Nokron.'
He'll be urging the bounty hunters to come after us, like a rabbit hunt.
The corners of my mouth went up slantedly.
'It's your turn now.'
