KFBRV - Chapter 98

'I was the one who saved you. Karl tried to kill you.'

Odette was listening quietly while thinking that to herself.

“No matter what, I was too indifferent. After all, he was once the Crown Prince of the only ally the Empire had. Even with Odette’s request, the slavery was excessive. I was wrong.”

Odette was moved for a moment.

'Look at this kid talking like that, knowing the whole situation.'

Sion winked at her as if he was a giant. Did I match his height? That was the meaning behind it.

Odette hated to admit it, but Sion was right. The Emperor was a fucking punk.

“I am embarrassed.”

“How about it, Karl? Join the Imperial Guard to protect the luggage? I will make you a noble again.”

The Emperor's words were exactly as she expected. He was a man who loved his own life terribly.

How impressed would he be if a slave suddenly appeared and saved him from death by an assassin?

The Count became completely lost in thought.

'Karl would be crazy afraid of becoming an imperial noble. He might take revenge on him.'

Count Albrecht was sensitive to Karl even when he was locked up in the asylum.

“I don’t want that. It’s too much for me.”

The lines are good. Of course, it's a script Odette wrote.

“Don’t be so hard on yourself. How could that be too much? I saw with my own eyes how much you were hurt while saving me!”

'Are you hurt? There must be four civilians, Karl?'

Odette was surprised, but Sion was smiling as if he knew something. With a strangely relieved smile.

“There is nothing to be ashamed of! Shall I give you the title of Viscount? Shall I give you the title of Baron?”

“Your Majesty... We need to finish the hunting competition today.”

The emperor frowned briefly at the servant's words but then smiled delightedly.

“Yes. You will be the winner of the hunting contest! Do you see the four corpses of the assassins over there? In all my life, I have never found a prey that I like as much. So why should I be embarrassed? Tell me what you wish for.”

The Emperor seemed anxious to give Karl anything. Even in the game, he said that he suffered from trauma for a long time due to the shock from the cliff of Tartarus.

“Bring me the laurel wreath and the golden cup at once! I will personally bestow him upon this great champion!”

‘...It’s not just about gratitude. There must be some calculation involved.’

If they sent an assassin to a place like this, it means there's a pretty powerful person behind it.

Since they failed this time, there will be more assassins coming. That's why the Emperor wants someone as powerful as Karl as his bodyguard.

“Would you like some fertile land? Or some gold? I feel like cutting down all these bastard guards and appointing you captain of the palace guards.”

She didn't expect it to be that bad. The Emperor in the game really hated Karl.

Even though Karl was the Crown Prince of an ally, he was willing to be relegated to a third-class citizen.

'I gave orders to Karl to refuse, but it might be quite tempting-'

But her momentary anxiety was overshadowed by Karl's calm response.

“I don’t want anything.”

“What?”

“I am satisfied with my present situation. I have no demands on Your Majesty.”

The Emperor's expression hardened at his answer. There were several more similar struggles, and the Emperor eventually became almost pleading.

“No matter what, how can you not have a wish? Tell me. Yes? Tell me!”

Then, Karl, as if he had no other choice, used his wish list.

“Then please promote me to Odette’s battle slave.”

Battle slaves were the most highly regarded of all slaves. Only those with exceptional military prowess were eligible and were therefore very expensive.

Moreover, until a few years ago, the noble ladies and young ladies had battle slaves closer than their maids. They were used as bodyguards to help the noble ladies escape from any disaster that might occur.

It was only recently that Sion's power prevented a disaster from occurring in the capital.

As such, combat slaves were treated fairly as slaves by both their masters and non-masters.

"...It is said that battle slaves are treated the best among slaves, but aren’t they still slaves? Since they are so good at martial arts, wouldn’t knights be even better?”

“I want to be Lady Odette’s battle slave.”

“He is a talent whose loyalty is so outstanding, which makes him even more pitiful and regrettable.”

...Look at that. That greedy voice. That pity must mean, ‘It’s a pity to give it to Odette.’

The Emperor bit his lip. His expression seemed as if he would die if he were to hand Karl over to Odette like this.

'Well, if that's the case, then you shouldn't have demoted me to a third-class citizen.'

When Karl asked for the protection of the Fenrir clan, he was the one who was demoted to third-class citizen faster than anyone else.

The Emperor made excuses, but the truth was that he was afraid of Fenrir's power. In fact, the reason Barceha was able to become an 'empire' was because it was the only ally that could borrow the military power of the Kingdom of Fenrir.

'Because of that, I always had to be mindful of the Fenrir Kingdom, but when the great disaster occurred, I was like, 'What the heck?'

When all the children of the Fenrir clan grow up, they are quickly locked up in a holding cell in case they try to revive the Fenrir kingdom.

But now that those kids are dead and only Karl is left, he feels relieved. So now he's come and he's happy to have it.

Odette looked at Sion closely. Sion winked again. That was the moment.

“Yeah, aren’t there four prey you like?!”

The Emperor made a groundbreaking proposal.

“I like this prey the best, so I’ll grant you a total of 4 wishes! I don’t have to give you just one wish, right? Hahahaha!”

***

“I will grant you your first wish. From now on, you will be Odette’s battle slave. What is your second wish?”

Since Karl said he was 'embarrassed', the Emperor thought that he should be promoted one by one.

After combat slaves, they are exempted from military service, after exemptions, they are knights, after knights, they are titles. Shouldn't it be like that?

“There may not be a second wish. I will suggest it instead. Karl, how about some fabric?”

"Your Majesty!"

But Count Albert intervened, and the Emperor rebuked him.

“Why is a Count who has no business interfering? Even Odette, Karl’s master, is keeping quiet. Could it be that you are Karl’s secret master, or is there some kind of hidden twist?”

During the <Crown Prince's Outburst Incident>, the Emperor was informed by Sion that Odette was being adopted and abused.

It meant that Karl was only Odette's slave on the outside, but in reality, he was the Count's.

'Haha! This time, it seems the Count's meticulousness has caught up with him. There's no reason to even intervene.'

The Emperor laughed inwardly, very excited.

Even after receiving a report from Sion, it was hard to believe for a while. The Count had a very good reputation abroad. Everyone said he was a man of great character.

So he can never say, 'Karl is actually mine.'

'It feels so good to see that guy's angry face.'

He thought Odette was the one acting cocky, but how did he feel betrayed when he found out she was a sly snake?

The Emperor laughed like a snake. Let's see who is the real snake.

“If Your Majesty so wishes... I also have a second wish.”

“Oh. Is that so, Karl? What is your wish?”

The Emperor's eyes sparkled with anticipation.
