IARMDH - Chapter 74

It didn't really help that Erne and Cain told me not to be nervous. I swallowed hard and went into the reception room.

The reception room was more modest than expected. This does not mean it was shabby, but rather less extravagant than the exterior of the palace.

Neatness and the absence of frills showed the Emperor's personality.

The Emperor was already sitting in the middle of the reception room table, waiting for us. Judging from the pile of papers before him, he seemed to be working in the meantime.

“I greet the precious sun of the empire.”

Cain folded one arm over his stomach and bowed. Is that royal etiquette?

I glanced at Erne. He also lowered his head slightly. Juice didn't know what to do, so I followed Cain's example.

“Everyone, sit down.”

As expected of a male protagonist, a pleasant voice rang out. I unconsciously straightened my back and stopped. The Emperor was staring at me, not Cain or Erne.

'Handsome.'

The feeling of bewilderment was followed by exclamations of how insanely handsome the emperor was.

Pitch-black hair, red eyes with indecipherable depth, and clear yet harmonious facial features, I couldn't take my eyes off of them.

Yeah, with a face like that, even if you come to kill someone, you'll fall in love with them. Yeah, that's true.

“Countess of Rhineland.”

“...”

“Countess of Rhineland?”

“Ahem.”

Even as the Emperor called me twice and the aide standing next to him coughed in vain, I just stared blankly at the Emperor's face.

“Your Majesty, the Countess seems very nervous as it is her first time entering the palace.”

Cain stared at me, making excuses on my behalf, but his earnest eyes did not reach me.

Erne couldn't help but laugh as he looked at me who was lost in thought. He wiped the area under my mouth with his fingertips. I, who had come to my senses at his touch, looked at Erne with wide eyes.

“You're drooling, Miss Harrington. Do you want to drool in front of His Majesty or not, huh?”

Erne was dumbfounded. The Emperor was handsome, Erne admitted.

Even when he was an illegitimate child of a Count and was confined to the Count of Rhineland's mansion to train in swordsmanship, he knew of the rumors about the current Emperor's beauty.

But still, are you really that dumbfounded and staring at him like that?

Erne was so shocked and amazed that he wasn't even angry. No, in fact, he was a little puzzled.

Judith must have developed an immunity to handsomeness after seeing a face like his own every day, but to react like that when seeing the Emperor was impossible.

Has the damp steam gone down yet? Well, she was looking the aide up and down earlier, and she was looking at him with a serious look in her eyes. We sleep holding hands every day, but when on earth will this damp steam go down?

Even if it was because of the damp steam, it was still unpleasant. Judith's eyes narrowed at the touch of the grumpy hand.

“Don't do it.”

Judith whispered and grabbed Erne's wrist.

“Then stop drooling.”

“When did I drool?”

“You were about to spill it. Thank you.”

Erne twisted his wrist slightly and easily grabbed Judith's wrist, who was holding onto his own.

Judith whispered to let go, and Erne muttered, "You can hold my wrist however you want, but I can't."

“...”

The Emperor stared blankly at the two men and women bickering before him. His eyes were a mixture of bewilderment and interest.

“Is the person I’m looking at right now Erne Rhineland?”

The Emperor asked so that only his aides could hear.

Erne, that Erne is arguing with a woman in front of me right now about whether or not to grab her wrist?

The more he looked at it, the more amazed he became.

“Yes, that’s right.”

The aide bent down slightly and whispered in the Emperor's ear.

“They say even cockroaches have mates, and so do mad dogs.”

“I can hear everything.”

The aide couldn't finish his sentence because of Erne's mumbling. Well, at least he got the message he wanted to convey.

Erne let go of Judith's wrist and looked at the Emperor and his aide. Judith also quietly lowered her head with a look of regret.

“I heard it was a political marriage, but it seems like you’re getting along well, which is fortunate. I was worried that I should step in and get you a divorce.”

What was interesting was interesting, and the grudges of the past were grudges. The Emperor still remembered Erne. Erne, who had been chasing him around and disturbing him on every date.

Even though Erne saved the Empress and the Prince, he didn't know how much he hated Erne before that.

My love life is so messed up, and you're so sweet?

The Emperor just wanted to show off his temper a little.

“Countess, if you ever want a divorce, come and find me. I will help you with your divorce, and with your remarriage as well.”

Judith was about to respond with gratitude to the Emperor's offer, but Erne interrupted before she could.

Ha, with a bitter sneer.

“You are making a pointless suggestion. Miss Harrington has even clung to me by the leg of my trousers, saying she doesn’t want to divorce me.”

“Me, me... When?”

She didn't hold on to his trouser legs. She said she wanted to have a sleepover. Judith felt a little wrong, but since she was the one who didn't want to get a divorce, she had nothing to say.

"Really?"

The Emperor asked incredulously, and Judith nodded silently.

“How many good men are there in the world.”

The Emperor shook his head, saying that Judith seemed to have no eye for men.

“Why did you call me?”

Erne urged the Emperor to get back to the main point.

“That is very rude of you, Sir Erne.”

The aide clicked his tongue again. Of course, Erne didn't even blink at that remark.

“I called you here to congratulate you on your achievement. Thanks to you, we were able to catch the Roam gang.”

The Emperor seemed to be speaking to Erne, then turned slightly towards Judith.

“It’s all thanks to the Countess of Rhineland.”

“...I am the one who caught Roam.”

“I heard that your wife found where Roam was hiding. Her contribution was great, so she will be rewarded accordingly.”

“Thank you, Your Majesty.”

The reward would be gold, right?

Judith jumped up from her chair and bent over at the waist. The Emperor gestured for her to calm down.

“And Sir Erne.”

Between 'And' and 'Sir Ern', the words 'For there is, after all, a ball of liver hardness' were omitted.

“Administratively, you're still been processed as death?”

“Yes, they said that they left him because the process was complicated and took a long time.”

Cain answered on Erne's behalf.

“I will revive you in a short period. I will restore your knighthood and give you a place to return to the Knights. Is there a place you would like?”

At that moment, the aide suddenly intervened.

“The Knight Commanders will not want it, Your Majesty.”

The captains of the 1st and 2nd Knights had a history of taking Erne with them and then releasing him, and the current captain of the 3rd Knights was a colleague of Erne. If Erne, whose achievements were more brilliant than them, joined the group, it would be uncomfortable.

“If they didn’t like that, they should have caught the traitor and offered him up.”

It's not like I'm going to keep him anyway, the emperor apparently thought.

He thought that Erne's place in the Knights Templar would be secured like that,

“I don’t like it.”

Erne flatly refused.

"No?"

The Emperor tilted his head slightly at Erne's answer.

“Then do you want the position of captain?”

“No. I will not return to the Knights Templar.”

“No, why?”

Usually, knights considered it a great honor to join the Imperial Knights. Unfortunately, Erne thought differently than the average knight.

“Aren’t you trying to order me around?”

In short, he said he didn't want to work.

Erne still hasn't decided what to do next. Should he pursue the Followers to the end and find out the truth, or should he just let things flow, or should he continue...

Anyway, Erne hasn't decided anything yet. Even if he decides to chase the Followers to the end, he doesn't want to go back to the Knights. Group life, really, doesn't suit him.

In the past, he thought that was the only path that was given to him and followed it. However, after being dismissed from the Knights Templar, he realized how the Imperial Knights did not fit him.

Even if he were to chase after the Followers, he could have just cooperated with Cain like he did this time to catch Roam.

“Does that mean you don’t want to work?”

“Yes.”

His answer was quite shameless.

Why on earth would a fully functioning adult not do anything? Why would he argue with his excellent swordsmanship skills? Why on earth?

In the living room, everyone except Erne was thinking the same thing.

“I heard that you have no inheritance from the Count of Rhineland. How do you plan to live from now on?”

The Emperor asked with genuine curiosity. No matter how talented a man was, he needed money to live a decent life.

Although Erne had a knighthood pension that he had not yet received, it was not enough to live off of for the rest of his life.

“Miss Harrington here promised to feed me.”
