THIBV - Chapter 12

Milea was a close associate of Julian Blake, the cruel tyrant who had recently ascended to the throne after causing a bloodbath in the royal palace.

Originally, she and the Spencer family did not receive much attention.

However, she suddenly found herself in the spotlight when Julian, who was merely the illegitimate son of the previous King, rebelled and ascended the throne.

She was the only person the suspicious King trusted.

But even the King was a man who could not move as he pleased.

That is why all the nobles dreamed of having an exclusive meeting with her.

However, it was not easy to reach her because she was very cautious and did not like getting involved in politics.

The Marchioness and Duke of Cavendish, who invited her to the party, were quite influential figures in society.

If Bridget hadn't planned the absurd thing of living under the same roof as her husband's mistress, she would never have been invited to such an event.

She thought she couldn't meet Milea twice by chance.

Today, she had to pique her interest.

"Thank you again, Madam. This may be too little to be considered a thank you, but..."

Bridget took a step toward Millea, politely asked permission, and gently placed a hand on her shoulder.

A faint light leaked out from her hand and hovered around Millea's shoulder and neck.

Millea, who had been on guard, raised her eyebrows slightly when she sensed a change.

"What is it?"

"I purified the magi that was attached to Madam Spencer."

Evil energy derived from a wicked or weak mind, such as curses, depression, and jealousy, was generally called magi.

Magi was everywhere and could cling to anyone.

While such things usually don't have much of an effect on people, they are known to cause nightmares, insomnia, and mild illness in people with weakened mental powers.

"It's not much of a talent, but I think you'll be comfortable for a while."

"...You have great talent. I've heard that people with sensitive constitutions sometimes develop such miraculous abilities. But I don't need help in that area."

It meant that her mental power was not weak enough to be affected by such things.

Millea had a strong tendency to dissipate without showing her weaknesses.

"I just wanted to express my feelings in a small way that I could. That's all."

"Is that so?"

Millea looked at the polite young lady for a moment.

Unlike many others who knew her, she didn't show any admiring looks or try to catch her eye by being cute, and she didn't make any effort to cling to her and build a friendship, but Millea was attracted to her for some reason.

'I thought you were stupid after hearing the rumors. Are you just naive?'

She hates foolish people, but she hates naive people just as much. In the wild palace, the latter are eaten up quicker than the former.

But that also made her more nervous.

Although Millea did not like to have long conversations with strangers, she asked Bridget a question for no reason

"...Is that talent effective?"

"My mother has completely cured the insomnia she had suffered from since she was young."

"You were a humble person."

Bridget smiled slightly instead of answering.

Millea looked at her with a strange gaze, then said she had to go home and left the terrace.

Although there was no mention of meeting again or contacting each other, Bridget believed she had achieved her goal.

Millea had a son who fought in the war.

Soon the son will return home complaining of severe nightmares and insomnia.

Millea will call the kingdom's best doctors to her home, but her son's condition will not improve much, and it will not be long before she thinks of Bridget.

"Bridget, if only I had known you sooner, would my son have lived? I searched the entire kingdom to find someone who could cure my son. So why have you come now?"

In a past life, Milea's son took his own life.

Millea thought it was all her fault that her son had become like that. She thought it was God punishing her.

So, as a form of atonement, she entered a convent known for the harshest life in the kingdom.

It was a cruel place where someone went to punish someone else or to punish themselves. It was more like a prison than a convent.

There Brigitte met Millea.

'Neither of us will enter that miserable place in this life, Millea.'

As I parted ways with Millea and headed back to the party, people began to glance at me.

It seemed that their interest was piqued by my being alone with Millea.

The curious Marchioness Cavendish overheard the story and approached me, whispering:

"What did Countess Spencer say? She spent a long time on the terrace with you. She's not a very talkative person."

As I was about to give a vague explanation, I saw Isaac walking out of the party venue, grumbling.

"It looks like my husband is about to come home. Excuse me."

The Marchioness Cavendish was disappointed but was unable to capture me.

As I followed Isaac into the carriage, Isaac slammed the door and started to irritate me.

"Where the hell have you been? Did you know that those people were making crude jokes about me?"

It seemed that he had finally found out about the fact.

"I didn't know."

I looked out the window, pretending not to know.

Isaac glared sharply at me.

"You didn't know?"

"Yes, I didn't know."

"It wasn't your plan from the beginning?"

"Yes...?"

I turned my head and looked at Isaac.

"What is that?"

"They said you cried in front of people earlier?"

"...Because people say mean things."

Isaac's eyes narrowed.

"Lie."

"..."

Did Isaac notice something?

I was momentarily taken aback, but I lowered my gaze and kept my mouth shut as if nothing had happened.

"You were the one who said you would stay with Penelope. And then you cried over a few words from people? Didn't you really know it would turn out like this?"

Isaac's lips twisted.

"What are you up to? Right?"

***

At that time, Penelope was having a meal with her parents at her parents' house while Isaac was away.

Her authoritarian and strict father, Count William Hudson, was furious when he discovered Penelope's infidelity while in the Kingdom of Russel.

He ordered Penelope to immediately end their relationship, go to Bellingham Estate, and never leave the estate again for the rest of her life.

Viola, her mother who was overly dependent on her father, did not write a single letter to Penelope because she was too concerned about what her father would think.

Only when Penelope told her that Isaac had promised to accept the child she was pregnant with did her parents agree to meet her.

"You ended up staying at the Winston mansion?"

"Yes, father."

"Did Viscount Winston want that? Bridget? Was she staying still?"

"Bridget was the first to say she wanted to stay with me."

"Bridget?"

Viola opened her eyes in surprise. William frowned.

"What are her intentions?"

"Bridget would rather embrace everything and be like before than be distant from me..."

"Do you think that makes sense?"

William slammed his fork on the table with his hand.

Penelope cringed.

"What woman in the world would want to be friends with a woman her husband brought home? How could you naively believe that? Do you have any sense at all?"

"Ha, but you know Bridget. If she said that, she'd be dead set on..."

"You Idiot! That was before you stole her husband."

Penelope lowered her head in embarrassment.

Her father, who she had been afraid of since she was a child, still seemed scary to her even as an adult.

William clicked his tongue as if he was frustrated. His eyes looked as if he was going to die from pity for his daughter.

In front of her father, Penelope became increasingly small and shabby.

"Bridget, that girl must be up to something behind her polite face."

"Then what should I do...?"

"What should I do?"

William wiped his mouth with a napkin and gave a firm order.

"Isaac has to divorce Bridget and become the mistress of that house."
