KFBRV - Chapter 5

Odette turned her head and saw the person who had entered. It was Mrs. Becker, the maid her mother had brought from her parents' house.

“Mrs. Becker.”

“How dare you be here, young lady?!”

Odette frowned at the sharp voice.

“Miss, are you deaf? Huh?! Why did you come into the master’s study without permission?!”

“Mrs. Becker, this is the study. Keep your voice down.”

The attitude of the Count's attendants toward her was all the same.

'That's the attitude of criticizing me as if I were your subordinate. And looking down on everyone like they're all funny.'

“I will report this to the madam immediately! How dare you enter the master’s study without permission?! I will not let you off easy!”

“Yes. Feel free to tell her.”

Mrs. Becker's eyes widened as if she had not expected such a refreshing answer.

'Did you expect me to cry and admit that I was wrong?'

Unlike Odette, who was the Count's daughter in name, it was presumptuous for a Countess's maid to be in the Count's study.

“If even Mrs. Becker, the maid, can enter the space, is there a place that the Countess cannot enter?”

Odette sat leisurely on the sofa in the study. Knowing what business her wife had in the study, she found her snorting just amusing.

'Madam, you are so shameless. You came here to use my ID.'

Odette remembered the sound of the mail carriage she had heard yesterday.

'Because yesterday was the last day to settle the human trafficking money. He must have come to return my ID and personal seal, which were needed to receive the money.'

Kidnapping, human trafficking, drug trafficking, relegating the Fenrir clan to third-class citizenship and locking them up in detention centers...

These were all the dirty things the Count did using Odette's name.

He hid the fact that Odette was adopted and played the role of 'a father who loves his youngest daughter too much and cannot bear to overcome her when she commits a bad act.'

While her reputation was being ruined, the Count's reputation was not spared.

Mrs. Becker was here today because Odette's personal seal, sealing wax, and identification card were kept here.

'It would have been used equally as a public good. For every evil deed that required my name.'

Although they were all lazy, they committed bad deeds very diligently.

“Oh my, that’s funny! Do you think you can’t do it if I ask you to?! If I call Madam right now-”

“Then I will tell my mother right away. I will ask tell where her precious garnet earrings and the agate necklace are.”

“...!”

“I know those things are hidden under Mrs. Becker’s bed.”

At Odette's words, Mrs. Becker's face turned pale.

'You must be surprised. It's your secret that I can't know unless you tell me.'

What Odette doesn't know is that in her previous life, she met Ferdinand's nanny in a gang of beggars she ran away from.

Three years ago, the Count, who wanted to completely silence the truth about Odette's adoption, killed most of his employees.

From maids and servants to cooks and coachmen. Ferdinand's nanny, who barely escaped that day and survived, hid her identity and barely managed to survive among the beggars.

The nanny, who held a grudge, revealed many secrets of the Count's family. Even though Odette, who had her tongue cut out, could not respond, she kept telling all sorts of stories.

'This is ridiculous. It's the most trivial secret I know, and I get this reaction.'

How could he shave the nerve to commit such a big theft when she was caught stealing two jewels?

'I wonder. Was there ever trust between you and my mother?'

In the previous life, the butler, Paula, and even Mrs. Becker, without a single traitor, all banded together to frame Odette.

So she wondered, would the household still be together when she, the household's public punching bag, was gone?

If there was true trust between the two, Mrs. Becker would leave this place right away.

Even if Odette tells her mother if her mother believes Mrs. Becker, her words will have no power.

Odette watched Mrs. Becker's choice with interest. Depending on the result of her choice, she could foresee whether the strife that would stir up this mansion in the future would work.

Mrs. Becker fidgeted and hesitated, but Odette watched her leisurely.

'It's obvious what the answer will be, actually.'

If there had been a good bond between the two, Mrs. Becker would not have committed such a theft in the first place.

In the end, Mrs. Becker couldn't leave. She just glared at Odette with wide eyes.

“What are you doing? Go out and call my mother.”

Mrs. Becker, who was biting her lip as she pretended to encourage Odette, asked in a voice that was suppressing her humiliation.

“What do you want from me?”

'Look at this. I knew this would happen.'

She feels ridiculed. She wanted to be a part of something like this, and she admired them in her past life.

***

Mrs. Becker glared at the hateful woman.

'How dare you, a dirty orphan, threaten me?'

She couldn't stand the fact that it made her so angry.

What's worse than the livestock raised in this house? She's acting like she's the real Countess's daughter.

For Mrs. Becker, who grew up as the daughter of a fairly prestigious lawyer, there was no humiliation like this.

'What is that dress that I'm seeing for the first time?'

The navy blue dress made Odette's white skin and blue-green eyes look mysterious.

The calm atmosphere seemed both alluring and cold-hearted. Was her facial line ever this aristocratic?

Is it even possible to feel elegance towards the master's toys?

'No one in this house would have given that woman money. Where on earth did that woman buy such expensive clothes?'

To Mrs. Becker, who knows how Odette is treated, it is simply disgusting and repulsive.

Mrs. Becker chewed on the inside of her mouth in resentment.

'I'll put up with it for now, but once this situation is resolved, I'll tear that woman to pieces.'

Mrs. Becker was planning to move her jewelry to another room as soon as she got up there.

In this situation, it would be better to blame someone else rather than Odette.

'Lize. I'll have to hide it in that annoying maid's closet.'

Whatever it was, without direct evidence, there was nothing Odette could do.

'I'll kick out that stupid laundry maid, and then I'll tell Madam to give that girl a good beating.'

It is only a momentary humiliation now. After that, she will return this humiliation with a lot of interest.

Even thinking that way, her pride was hurt.

'How dare someone like Ferdinand's toy humiliate me?'

“Yes?! Tell me! What do you want from me?”

So, Mrs. Becker had no choice but to raise her voice.

Because she knows how insignificant this woman is, she also knows the insignificant purpose behind doing this.

'At best, she'd like you to pay a little more attention to her in the future and tell this story to Madam.'

Even the goals of life were extremely shallow and mean.

The comical scene of Odette grabbing Mrs. Becker's dress and begging her to persuade her family not to give up her marriage was vivid.

'You're going to ask such a ridiculous favor and then take advantage of my weaknesses?'

An irritated voice came out on its own.

“If you have something to say, say it quickly.”

“The safe key you have in your hand. Give it to me and go.”

'What?'

A chill ran down her spine. How did Odette know about the existence of this safe?

'Only I, Madam, Master, and Young Master know about this safe.'

Even the butler and the housekeeper were unaware of its existence. And if there was anyone in this house who should have known less about this safe, it was Odette.

'This is not possible. Not this.'

Mrs. Becker's expression hardened.

“What are you talking about, Miss? Did you eat something bad?”

“What a stupid act. Stop wasting time and get over it quickly. I know exactly why you came here.”

“Don’t talk nonsense! The reason I came to the study was, of course, to find a book! I came here to find a book at the request of Madam? It’s just an errand for books!”

Mrs. Becker waved off the idea.

'Anyway, with such a thin body, you can't fight me with brute force.'

As long as the key isn't stolen, that's the end of it.

“You are truly a loyal maid to my mother.”

It was when a smirk appeared on Odette's lips that Mrs. Becker sensed something was wrong.

“It’s funny. How did you become my father’s lover with such loyalty?”

Mrs. Becker's face turned pale. How on earth could this girl know her biggest secret?

“Are you sure you don’t have the key?”

“...”

Mrs. Becker had no choice but to quietly hand over the small lump of iron. She also handed over the identification card and personal seal she had brought with her.

She was dumbfounded and lost in thought at Odette's changed appearance.

Because of that, Mrs. Becker didn't see Odette flipping the key inside the secret safe and opening the dual-action device.

She also carries documents and a video stone that only the Count knows about in her sleeve.
