IDMH - Chapter 121

Sir Aldor interrogated the man for four days but received no significant information.

“I’m sorry, Miss.”

When Sir Aldor bowed his head in apology as if he was ashamed, I shook my head.

"It's okay."

I didn't think the man would open his mouth easily in the first place.

The Anatome Guard were not only skilled in swordsmanship but also had a tight mouth.

In my past life, I captured and interrogated several members of Anatome's guard, but not a single one opened their mouths.

The confession system, which was supposed to make people's mouths lighter, was of no use to them.

So I guessed that Sir Aldor wouldn't find out anything... but it's still a shame.

If nothing else, I wanted to find out why Chernosser went into the basement of the Duke's mansion and how he got there.

“There is still time before the imperial knights arrive at the dukedom, so we will continue interrogating them until then.”

“No. If you do that and the guy dies, it’ll be even more of a headache, so just leave it alone.”

In particular, he had to stay alive no matter what because the Emperor's side might make ridiculous accusations, such as holding me responsible or saying that I did it to destroy some evidence.

Sir Aldor was well aware of that fact, so he answered that he would do so with a slightly hardened expression.

“Treat his wounds and feed him enough so he doesn’t die.”

“Yes, Miss.”

“And what happened to the thing I asked you to do before?”

“If that’s the case...”

As I was walking to the office listening to Aldor's report, I saw Perdes walking down the hallway on the other side.

When I discovered him, I reflexively stopped.

Aldor, who had stopped in his tracks, found Perdes and bowed to him.

Likewise, Perdes, who had stopped, nodded slightly in greeting.

Even in the midst of all this, Perdes' gaze was fixed on me.

Normally, I would have smiled and greeted him, but not now.

After telling him to stop, I turned my head away because it was uncomfortable to look him in the eye.

My breathing stopped on its own, and my body froze like a stone.

I felt a little nervous and my palms broke out in a cold sweat.

“...”

Perdes stared at me like that, then passed by without saying anything.

Phew.

Only then did I release the tension I had been holding in and let out the breath I had been holding.

Then Sir Aldor asked me with a puzzled look on his face.

“Did you fight with Perdes?”

“Does it look like that?”

Sir Aldor nodded.

“Did you have a bad fight?”

“We didn’t fight. I just unilaterally made Perdes angry.”

He was angry because I told him to stop without even explaining anything.

I fully understood Perdes' feelings, and my heart was heavy, and I was very worried about him.

As I was staring blankly in the direction where Perdes had disappeared, Sir Aldor spoke.

“He is a good person.”

When I turned to him at the somewhat unexpected remark, Sir Aldor coughed in vain as if he was a little embarrassed.

“When did you two become so close?”

“We’re not particularly close.”

“But you just praised Lord Perdes.”

“I just told you the objective facts that most people would evaluate.”

“So does that mean that Sir Aldor doesn’t think that Lord Perdes is a good person?”

Aldor kept his mouth shut, wondering if that was the case.

Anyway, I'm not being honest.

I smiled faintly and looked back in the direction where Perdes had disappeared.

“I know very well that Mr. Perdes is a good person.”

That's why I was even more worried about him and didn't want to see him get into trouble.

If he were to die at the hands of an assassin sent by the Emperor, I would...

“Are you okay, Miss?”

Sir Aldor must have spoken to me out of concern for my strange condition, but it had the opposite effect.

When I looked at his face, I remembered the incident when he eventually died at the hands of an assassin.

"Miss...!"

Even though he was badly injured all over his body and bleeding profusely, the image of him worrying about me came to mind so vividly that my eyes became hot.

Eventually, tears that I couldn't hold back flowed down my cheeks.

Then, Sir Aldor held out his handkerchief in great embarrassment.

“With this...”

“Sir Aldor.”

I held his hand tightly and brought my face to it.

“No matter what happens, don’t get hurt. Absolutely, don’t get hurt.”

I did that to hide my crying face, but instead, the tears I shed soaked the back of his hand.

“If something dangerous happens, then run away without looking back.”

“...”

“Please don’t risk your life for a useless sense of justice.”

Even though it might have been a somewhat unexpected and absurd story for Sir Aldor, who knew nothing about it, he wasn't at all flustered.

Instead, he grabbed my hand in return, as if he knew why I was doing this.

“Yes, I will keep that in mind.”

***

“It’s been a long time, Your Highness.”

The head with thick white hair bowed.

Originally, it was polite to bow deeply when greeting members of the royal family.

But since he was Perdes' master, he was allowed to bow his head in greeting.

A faint smile appeared on Perdes' lips, whose expression had always been gloomy, as his mind was agitated by Adele's work.

“It’s been a long time, Gnosis. A month and three days?”

The man, Gnosis laughed.

“I didn’t know you counted them one by one.”

“That means I’ve been waiting for your class.”

“Oh my, this is such an honor, I don’t know where to put myself.”

“If you think so, how about staying at the Duke’s residence like before and telling me things?”

Gnosis initially stayed at the Duke's residence and taught Perdes the basics of magic and other things.

Unlike swordsmanship, Perdes learned it quickly, like a sponge absorbing water, and mastered the basics of the magic sword in three months.

“If you’ve mastered all the basics, all that’s left is to apply what you’ve learned and learn it on your own. I’ll check in with you once a month to make sure you’re doing it right.”

Then, as if he had been waiting for this, Gnosis left, saying these words.

And as promised, he visited Duke Leopold's residence once a month to check on Perdes' skills.

Sometimes, due to unavoidable circumstances, he may not be able to come on the appointed date, and this was one of those cases.

It was not due to Gnosis' personal circumstances, but because of the heavy snowfall.

Thanks to the Emperors hiring magicians to melt the snow piled up on the railroad, he can come now.

“I would like to do that too, but I can’t because it would be a nuisance to stay in someone else’s house for a long time.”

“Lady Leopold will also allow it.”

“I feel uncomfortable, even without your permission. So please understand.”

It escapes easily like a loach.

Perdes shrugged his shoulders slightly.

“So how many days do you plan on staying this time?”

“About two days. I would like to stay a little longer, but as Your Highness knows, I don’t like noisy places very much.”

I was talking about the recent events in Chernosser that turned Leopold's duchy upside down.

The Imperial Knights will soon arrive to retrieve the culprit's body, so Gnosis is planning to leave before then.

“I see.”

It was a shame to leave after only staying for two days, but Perdes couldn't hold him back because he knew he hated noise.

Instead, Perdes looked at him with a regretful look on his face, and Gnosis smiled strangely and handed him the box.

“What is this?”

“This is a birthday present for Your Highness.”

Perdes looked at Gnosis with some surprise.

“I never thought you would celebrate my birthday.”

“You're my only disciple, so of course I have to take care of you. And since you have your coming-of-age ceremony this time, I wanted to attend the banquet, but as you know, I don’t like noisy things.”

“I know.”

It would be a lie if he said he wasn't disappointed at all, but the moment Perdes received the gift, hr melted.

He wondered what was heard.

Gnosis's standards are quite high, so he had high expectations.

Perdes opened the gift box with a pounding heart.

“...”

But the moment he checked the gift, his sparkling eyes distorted.

“71 formulas that every skilled magician must know.”

The title was as stiff as the dry voice.

Moreover, it was so thick that for a moment he thought it was an encyclopedia.

Although Perdes looked at the book with a look of blatant displeasure, Gnosis smiled with satisfaction.

“I am giving this to you in the hope that Your Highness’s skills will improve as soon as possible, so please read it carefully.”

“That’s right...”

Thank you...I should say that.

The expressionless face became pale.

Perdes stared blankly at the book, then sighed and spoke to Gnosis.

“Thank you for the gift.”

It wasn't the gift he was expecting, but he still felt it was right to express his gratitude for the gift he received.

And, thinking that reading books would definitely help improve his skills, Perdes straightened up his somewhat uneasiness.

“Then let us check how much Your Highness’s skills have improved.”

There were many things he wanted to show Gnosis when he came, but he was nervous when it came to actually confirming it.

Perdes took a deep breath and drew a magic circle on a piece of paper.

Most magicians have no mana, so even if they draw a magic circle, they cannot activate it.

Then, since it was impossible to check whether the magic circle was drawn correctly, he asked a fellow magician to do it for him or drew it on special paper imbued with mana and activated it.

However, the amount of mana contained in the paper was so small that even when activated, there were many cases where even one-tenth of the original effect did not appear.

So, Perdes wanted to show the effect more clearly and took out the mana pen he had received as a gift from Adele.

“Hoo.”

Gnosis let out a small exclamation as he saw the mana pen.

“Did you receive that Mana Pen as a gift?”

"That's right."

“From whom?”

Who is it? That is...

When Perdes' expression changed strangely as he suddenly remembered Adele, Gnosis spoke with sparkling eyes.

“It looks like you received a gift from your precious lover.”
