HFMD - Chapter 94 < Judgement >

At Evelyn's words, an eerie silence fell over the audience room. The moment she took a deep breath and tried to continue speaking.

"...What kind of nonsense is that, Your Majesty?"

A cold voice broke the silence first. Evelyn looked embarrassed as she saw the angry Baynas Perun.

"Baynas."

"Is what I just heard true? The humans came forward to attack us first, and Your Majesty said you would hold a peace conference."

Ha, he laughed and roughly ran one hand through his hair. The look of hostility was obvious. Baynas glared at Evelyn with a sharp gaze and bit his lip.

"You are not qualified to be the Demon King."

The moment she heard his words, Evelyn realized that the air in the audience room was strangely sharp. However, before she could realize that something was wrong and raise her body, Baynas took out a small jewel from his bosom and ran towards Evelyn.

"What is this...!"

Bring out Evelyn Hayden, who has betrayed the pride of the Demon Tribe!"

The Duke of Shert is also in on it! Get him!
"

At the same time, about 70% of the demons in the audience room rushed towards Muller. Evelyn saw Baynas approaching her and waved her hand widely. He ducked to avoid the attack and quickly reached out and placed the jewel on Evelyn’s instep.

"Yes...!"

Baynas let out a murmur of delight. Then Evelyn suddenly stopped with a blank expression like a broken doll. Immediately afterward, her body swayed and collapsed helplessly to the floor. Muller, who was fighting off the demons rushing at him, was shocked at the sight.

"Your Majesty!"

However, Muller was soon completely captured by Baynas and other demons. Even though he was the second-ranking demon in Kelvetia, he was not enough to stop the demons, including Baynas, who was the third-ranking demon, from rushing towards him.

“The whole series of events happened so quickly and in perfect order as if they had been planned all along. And where on earth did he get that jewel that stunned His Majesty...?”

Muller held onto the bars and bowed his head miserably. As he spoke, Sylvia seemed to feel more certain about her guess.

'There was a powerful magician among David's closest associates.'

And currently, in the human world, only the most powerful magicians can properly use mental magic. If David had made some kind of deal with Baynas and given him a magic stone, then it would have been a hit.

'I was wondering how you could handle the dark bugs like your own limbs...'

The God of the dark bugs is, after all, a 'demon'. Although 'David' could control darkness, he had a human body. This meant that the dark bugs had no reason to readily follow him. Unless a high-ranking demon came forward and ordered them to help. So David seemed to have persuaded the dark bugs through Baynas. In return, he provided Baynas with the means to bring down the Demon King. When and how did he come into contact with Baynas?

Sylvia clicked her tongue inwardly, thinking that David was a truly sinister man. Muller bowed his head and vented his anger.

“Perun brought down Her Majesty with such cowardly means, and he intends to start a war by framing me and the pacifist faction of demons! To the hedonistic demons, war would be nothing but a festival! But if things continue this way, even the innocent demons...!”

His voice was seething with genuine concern that the demons would shed blood. Randall and Sylvia exchanged glances before opening their mouths.

“We think the same as you. We have no intention of seeing the blood of innocent people. Especially not in a war that is caused by someone’s selfish desires.”

Randall spoke in a low voice. Muller raised his head at the sound. Sylvia met his gaze and continued speaking.

“To do that, we need solid evidence that the Crown Prince is in collusion with the Demons. Perhaps it was Baynas Perun who made the deal in exchange for the Demon King’s position. Do you have any idea where that might be? There also needs to be a peace conference request with the Demon King’s seal on it.”

To prevent war with Kelvetia, two things are needed. One is solid evidence that Crown Prince David is in league with the Demons, and the other is a peace conference request officially approved by the Demon King. Muller was troubled after hearing Sylvia's words.

“Baynas Perun is a man of untrustworthy and sinister nature. If he were such a man, he would have left traces of his contact with the Crown Prince in case of an emergency, and he likely carries the evidence in his bosom...”

It was then that the outside suddenly became noisy, and someone's startled scream echoed through the dungeon.

“Your Majesty, Your Majesty!”

“...!”

Randall, Sylvia, and Muller froze in place. Evelyn had not yet come to her senses. In such a situation, there was only one demon who could be called 'Your Majesty'.

'Baynas...!'

Sylvia bit her lip and looked around hurriedly. The place where Muller was locked up was a solitary cell with stone walls on all sides and no windows, and the only way out was a door leading to the dungeon. However, judging from the sounds outside, Baynas had already set foot in the dungeon. In this situation, opening that door and leaving would have been suicide.

“Randall, come this way!”

Sylvia eventually grabbed Randall's hand and led them to a corner where the bars and the wall met at right angles. She hugged Randall and curled up as much as she could, gritting her teeth as she directed her magic over his shoulder.

'I can do it.'

Even if it wasn't perfect, at least she could do as well as Randall. Otherwise, she would be ashamed of the title 'Archmage' that she once had. Sylvia believed that and barely finished the magic circle. As soon as the two figures disappeared, the door to the private prison opened wide.

“...”

Baynas Perun opened the door to the solitary cell and appeared, his eyes narrowed. He looked around the cell suspiciously.

Randall and Sylvia shook their shoulders as Baynas's gaze passed over the place where they were hiding, but soon held their breath and observed the situation.

After what felt like an eternity, Baynas withdrew his searching gaze and gestured.

Clank.

Then, the demons serving him quickly moved and opened the door to the solitary cell. Muller, perhaps realizing that he was outnumbered even with the restraints on, sat still without taking any particular action.

“Everyone go out and wait.”

At Baynas's command, the demons quickly closed the door to the solitary cell and retreated. However, the presence of dozens of people waiting right in front of the door was still clearly felt. Baynas took a step inside the iron bars where Muller was imprisoned and opened his lips.

“Muller Shert.”

“...”

“Has anyone come looking for you? There seems to be an alien atmosphere lingering in Her Majesty’s room.”

At those words, Randall and Sylvia exchanged glances in silence. Sylvia clicked her tongue inwardly.

'I thought I was trying to tame the darkness in my own way.'

In any case, it seemed that the title of third strongest in Kelvetia was not given for nothing.

“Kuuuuu...”

Muller laughed like a madman at the words, “Her Majesty.” He sneered, a mocking expression on his face.

“Even if I said so, do you think I would tell you about it?”

“...”

At Muller's words, Baynas's eyes narrowed even further. The next moment, without hesitation, he moved his foot and kicked Muller.

Boom!

“Cough!”

Muller fell to the floor, his body trembling as if he was breathing heavily. In contrast, Baynas spoke with an air of elegance and ease that made it hard to believe he was the one who had just kicked Muller.

“We must show proper courtesy to the new Demon King.”

“...Like a dirty traitor.”

Even while panting painfully, Muller continued to insult Baynas. Baynas slowly bent down. He lifted up Muller’s face, which was panting painfully while his face was on the ground. Baynas, who was staring at Muller from the nose, smiled with his eyes wide open.

“No.”

“...”

“Haven’t we always inherited the throne from the strongest? Our dear Demon King has become a living corpse, and you too will have your head cut off when the sun rises tomorrow...”

Baynas trailed off in a hushed tone. His nails dug into Muller’s face, leaving a wound. Muller let out a soft groan. And at that moment, the magic that had been precariously surrounding Sylvia and Randel began to shake precariously.

“I am the strongest in Kelvetia.”

Sylvia gritted her teeth and controlled her magical power, but as time passed, it became harder to control her magical power.

As her magical power wavered, Sylvia and Randall’s bodies would appear and disappear repeatedly. Muller, who had to swallow a groan of pain, opened his eyes wide without realizing it when he saw Randall and Sylvia in the corner of his vision.

“...?”

Baynas, who witnessed the scene, frowned with a puzzled expression. At the same time, the magical power shook greatly for a moment, and the figures of Sylvia and Randall, who were crouching in the corner, were completely exposed.

'This..!'

Randall bit his lip with a look of defeat on his face. It was the moment when his eyes flashed fiercely and he reached for the hilt of his sword.

Thud.

With a small sound, spit flew onto Baynas’ face. To be exact, it was Muller spitting on his face to divert his gaze.

“What is this...”

Thanks to that, Baynas fixed his gaze on Muller with a fierce expression on his face. Muller smiled as if he was looking at that stupid face.

“Alyssa will judge you.”

“...”

At those words, Baynas's face, which had been relaxed since entering the solitary cell, collapsed. What followed was merciless violence.

Thud! Thud!

Baynas beat Muller as if he was going to kill him, but not to the point of killing him. Throughout the beating, Randall covered Sylvia's ears while keeping her eyes tightly shut.

"Ha..."

How long had it been since then?

Baynas let out a deep breath and got up. Blood that wasn’t his dripped from his clenched fist. Baynas twisted his lips as he looked at Muller, who was lying on the floor in disarray.

"Well."

“...”

“If Her Majesty the First, who has already been forgotten, appears again, we will think about it then.”

With those last words, Baynas closed the door and left the cell. There was a brief commotion outside.

“Your Majesty, there is blood...!”

“It’s not my blood. Shut up and bring me something to wipe it off.”

“Yes, yes!”

The sounds gradually grew distant. Randall and Sylvia immediately got up and examined Muller as soon as they saw the door to the dungeon in the distance closing with a clang. Sylvia urgently brought up the darkness to stop the bleeding on Muller’s wound.

“...Duke of Shert.”

Sylvia wanted to ask Muller, "Are you okay?" but couldn't bring herself to say anything, so she bit her lips tightly. Randall was the same. Then, Muller, who had not even been able to respond until a moment ago, stood up with a jerk. He radiated a fierce aura that made it hard to believe that he had been guarding the Demon King for two generations, and he shouted in a low voice.

“Go!”

“...!”

“Her Majesty, just wake up Her Majesty Evelyn. Once Her Majesty wakes up, subduing that bastard Baynas will be no problem, so go and wake up Her Majesty.”

As he spoke, Muller moved his hands desperately. After a few fumblings, he took off the ring he was wearing and handed it to Sylvia.

“Judging from what Baynas said earlier, the security around the room where Her Majesty Evelyn is must have been strengthened. The two of you alone cannot do it, so contact my subjects and get their cooperation. Show them this ring. Be sure to wake Her Majesty!”

They could not ignore that earnest cry. Sylvia and Randall squeezed Muller's hand through the bars and left the cell.
