IELNDMH - Chapter 50 < I Finally Find You >
I Ended Up Living Up Next Door With My Ex-Husband
"We have arrived. Here we are."
When the carriage stopped, Thompson lifted the curtain slightly and said,
It seemed like we had finally arrived.
As I shifted my body to look at the scenery beyond the carriage window, he closed the curtains again and looked back at me.
"Don't come out right now, stay inside. Until I tell the village chief that Her Highness has arrived."
When I nodded, Thompson got off the carriage and headed toward the village entrance.
"Her Highness, are you sure you're okay?"
At Mina's question, the other maids' eyes turned to me at the same time.
Their eyes were full of worry.
"Those people will not be kind to Her Highness."
"That's right. Of course, we will help Her Highness and defend you diligently.... Don't be too surprised."
I smiled, trying to reassure them.
"I think you guys are more worried. I'm fine, so don't worry too much, everyone."
After saying that, I slightly opened the curtain and looked outside.
At the entrance to the village where the carriage was parked, a small sign was pinned to a tree.
[Grey Zone Village]
Beyond that, at a glance, an ordinary and simple village was visible.
Within the village walls, there were many small but unique houses, and white smoke rose from each chimney.
It seemed like they had just started preparing breakfast.
Even when their mothers told them to come to eat, the children just smiled brightly and ran around the path.
It was a time when I couldn't help but smile at the heartwarming sight.
In the distance, Thompson was seen returning to the carriage.
How long had it been since I immediately closed the curtains and waited for him as if nothing had happened?
When Thompson finally opened the carriage door, his expression looked a little distraught.
"First of all, I spoke to several village officials, including the village chief. Please get off."
After getting out of the carriage, I unloaded the luggage I had brought with me and the maids from the luggage compartment.
"What is this?"
Thompson, who was standing next to me, showed interest.
"I can't come empty-handed. It's a small gesture."
"It's quite a lot for a small gesture."
After saying that, he took the luggage from my hands.
"Thompson, I can listen to this myself."
Thompson's eyebrows arched as high as a mountain as if he was surprised by my words.
However, he soon returned to his original rough expression.
"I made it clear. No matter what happens, I won't help you."
Thompson repeated the same words for emphasis.
I answered by taking the luggage back from his hands.
"I understand. Thompson, from this moment on, you promise not to help me."
Then Thompson shook his head and walked towards the entrance of the village.
I followed him and finally reached the center of the village.
A man who was sitting on a bench and laughing inadvertently looked at me and tilted his head.
The man looked at my face closely again, seemingly confused by my simple outfit and hat.
The man's face soon became grimly crumpled.
"You are.......?!"
Then, one by one, other eyes around me began to turn towards me.
"Isn't that woman the Grand Duchess of the Twins?"
"I guess that's right? Why on earth did that woman come here?"
"How shameless! Tsk!"
Saliva that the young man spat out roughly fell at my feet.
Mina, her face frozen in an instant, quickly stepped forward.
"It's been a while, Roy."
"You...... It's Mina, right? What on earth is going on here? And with that shameless woman!"
Mina's face became even colder at the man's words.
She let out a long breath, trying to suppress her anger.
"No matter what you think, this person is the Grand Duchess of the Twins family, the center of our mixed-race demons."
“Hey, Mina.....".
"So you'd better be careful what you say."
Mina warned coldly.
Then the man, who had an absurd expression on his face, soon snorted and started mocking.
"Yes, you are still of the Twins family, so you would say that. I said the same thing back then and took the Grand Duchess's side! But what did she give me in return for that?"
The man got up from his bench with a suddenly furious expression and shouted harshly.
"It was discrimination, contempt, and a notice of dismissal!"
The attention of the surrounding villagers focused on me again at the man's shout.
Mina took a look around her and lowered her voice towards the man, growling as if warning him.
"Be polite, Roy. We did not come here to fight with you, our own people."
But the young man's face only grew more vicious.
"How can we believe that?! Also, you guys brought that vicious Grand Duchess to our village!"
At the same time, the eyes of the people surrounding him also began to boil even more violently.
"That's right! How rudely that woman treated us!"
"Whenever it rains, the area where I got whipped still throbs!"
"That woman must pay for coming into our village without permission!"
The atmosphere gradually became dreary.
An imminent situation. It was a time when the maids formed a circle around me as if to protect me.
"Stop it, Roy."
The atmosphere that had been boiling with anger calmed down a bit at the sound of an old man's voice.
When I turned my head, what I saw was a thin old man with a bushy white beard.
The old man who was standing next to the embarrassed Thompson approached me slowly and slightly lowered his head.
"This is Devon, the chief of Gray Zone Village. He was the head of the house in the Mansion of Light, so he might remember you."
I also bowed my head and responded.
"Nice to meet you, Devon."
Chief Devon's attitude was more polite than that of Thompson or Roy.
But even he couldn't hide the wary look in his eyes towards me.
"I just heard from Thompson. You came to meet the people of our village?"
At those words, the villagers' glares became even harsher
Before I knew it, they were standing holding something high like a farming tool or a shovel handle.
At that bloody force, I swallowed my saliva once and looked at Chief Devon again.
"Yes. It may be shameless, but I have something to tell you, so I came to you at the risk of being rude."
The eyebrows of the Devon chief, with his long white hair, arched greatly.
He also seemed to be surprised by the Grand Duchess' polite attitude, unlike before.
Then he glanced at the maids surrounding me and opened his mouth again.
"You didn't bring any escorts?"
"Yes, they are all."
"Then you really came to destroy our village...... I guess not. I'm glad I heard it."
Chief Devon seemed to suspect that I had come to punish Gray Zone Village.
'For some reason, it seemed like that.'
As expected, it was a good idea to bring only the maids.
The Rebecca of the past was a person who would remain like that. So Chief Devon's suspicions were fully expected.
"I thought my maids were enough for escorts. I didn't come here to fight.....I came here to apologize."
Chief Devon's eyes slowly opened wide at my words.
"You came to apologize to us?"
Small exclamations came from all over the village. They seemed to be just as surprised as Chief Devon.
"Yes. I sincerely apologize and plan to give you back the jobs I took from you."
"A job?"
"I plan to establish a welfare foundation for mixed-race demons. It is a foundation to help mixed-blood demons who are treated unfairly in the human world."
"..."
"I would like you to work as part of the foundation."
I looked at Chief Devon with an unwavering gaze.
On the other hand, a small ripple appeared in Chief Devon's eyes.
"Now....... Are you serious?"
Along with Chief Devon's question, a murmur arose in the surrounding area. I slowly looked around at the villagers and continued speaking.
"Of course I'm serious. So please give me a chance to apologize to you all."
"..."
"Please..."
I bowed my head politely.
Then the murmur of the audience stopped in an instant.
In silence mixed with astonishment and surprise.
One by one, the maids began to step in front of me.
"Chief Devon, Her Highness is different from before."
"We can guarantee that from those of us who have been by her side and served her closely all these years!"
"That's right, so now His Highness the Grand Duke truly cares for Our Grand Duchess"
At the last maid's words, a snickering sound escaped from those around me.
"What? His Highness the Grand Duke cares about the Grand Duchess?"
Immediately, a flurry of ridicule came from all over the place.
"Ha ha ha! A passing dog will laugh, picture It!"
"Tsk tsk....... I mean, who doesn't?"
Then the maids each shouted with bright red faces.
"It's true! Even if the real Grand Duke appears, will you believe me?"
And that moment.
In the distance, from the entrance to the village, the sound of horses running roughly, accompanied by a huge sandstorm, began to gradually get closer.
For a moment, people's eyes turned to one place.
As the whirlwind sandstorm cleared, a figure riding a huge black horse began to be seen more clearly.
'Why is that person here...?'
Suddenly I turned my head and couldn't hide my surprise.
Is that the same for Mina?
She asked in a confused tone as she grabbed my arm.
"Your Highness, that person over there... He is the Grand Duke, right?"
"Hmm, I guess so...?
However, he was somehow different from the usual relaxed Cedric.
I slowly closed my eyes, looking at his angry face as if he were chasing a runaway thief.
'Why is Cedric visiting Gray Zone Village so urgently...?'
At that time, I was thinking about that and looking at Cedric blankly.
As he looked around me, our eyes met.
Then Cedric stiffened his jaw for a moment, increased the speed of his horse, and rode straight into the center of the village.
The black horse finally stopped in front of me, and a huge sandstorm arose around me once again.
"Whoa, whoa...That person......?"
The villagers kept coughing and looking sideways at each other in confusion.
"Oh, Your Highness? How could His Highness suddenly... Without any communication?"
Soon, feelings of joy and awe toward Cedric began to sparkle in each of the countless eyes.
Some even covered their mouths and suppressed screams of longing.
'I knew that the Twins family was respected as the head of the mixed race demons but..... I didn't know it would be like this.'
It was at that time that I looked around in amazement at the sudden change in the villagers' attitudes.
"Rebecca."
A low, low-pitched sound was heard that felt eerie.
When I turned my head, my eyes met again with Cedric, who was looking down at me from the huge black horse.
His eyes, which had always been filled with warmth recently, had suddenly become cold again.
However, I felt that something was boiling. hot underneath that cool outer shell.
For a long time, he was watching me with his noose-like gaze. Finally, Cedric's lips slowly opened.
"I finally found you."
