DYBAR - Chapter 126 < The Man Who Never Woke Up >

Do Your Best And Regret

Home or shelter.

The nameless place was a large cabin.

"I'm right! A pretty sister has arrived!"

As soon as I opened the rough wooden door, the children who had been gathered in front of the window came rushing to the door.

Meanwhile, the little boy I saw earlier was waving his arms and pretending to be okay. And then he raised his sassy attitude towards the four friends who were with him.

The red-haired child muttered with a frightened face.

"Aren't you a noble lady?"

"I said no, I said so."

I looked around while listening to the children's loud voices. Unlike the curious children, the adults did not let down their guard, hiding behind pillars or doors. It felt exactly like the first day I went to Jeniv Street.

I smiled at the searching eyes on me. Meanwhile, Jerun grinned and lightly clapped his hands.

"She's a priest. Everyone, it's okay."

Jerun's voice rang softly from under the round roof. People paused at Jerun's words.

They're not sure what the priest is, but it's clear that she's a nobleman based on her precious appearance. She's a nobleman with green eyes.

"Priest?"

The children's eyes widened. Soon, questions poured in.

"Are you really a priest?"

"But what do you do, priest?"

"You idiot. The healer is much higher than grandfather."

"Stop it."

The children grinned at Jerun's words. As if it was a usual prank. When Jerun told them to come play outside, the children gave up their curiosity toward me and went outside, saying, "Wow!"

"Everyone does their job. I will introduce my house to the priest."

I, not paying attention to the stares of people passing by, gently looked down at the magic stone I was holding in my hand.

It was obvious that I had something here, as it sparkled like nothing I had ever seen before. When I became certain, I felt nauseous for no reason.

I cleared my throat loudly.

"Jerun, since when have you been like this?"

"I think we've been here for about 40 years. After Lowell ended 50 years ago, I was chased and finally found a place."

Time was reflected in his light green eyes as if scanning through his distant past.

I don't know what came to mind beyond the blurry focus, but in that moment, from the boy's face shining on Jerun's face, middle-aged and older-aged people passed by.

When the slowly drooping smile at the corner of his eyes turned Jerun into an old man of his current age, he lightly cleared his throat and laughed.

"I have a lot of old stories, so I'll have to organize them at least lightly until your next visit. Can I serve you my favorite tea then?"

"Then I will prepare a dessert to go with the tea. Are those and the children I saw earlier the only people staying here?"

It was clear that a dessert with a variety of flavors would melt people's wariness.

The thought that suddenly occurred to me, wondering if there might be someone in Yeniv who passed through this place, was quite plausible. But before I could ask, Jerun pointed to the closed door.

"No. There's one person in that room too. He hasn't woken up even once since he came here."

He's never woken up.

While I hesitated for a moment, not knowing what to say, Jerun bowed his head politely.

"If it's okay with you, would you please join us in praying for his recovery?"

When I nodded my head, Jerun smiled brightly as if he knew I would and headed toward the closed door.

And when the door opened, I squinted my eyes for a moment in the brilliant sunlight.

Even in this house, which had fairly good lighting, this room had a particularly large window. A fresh breeze filled the room, and the faint scent of flowers was fragrant.

The owner of the room was lying on the bed. I instinctively took a step closer.

He was a man with hair so white that it rivaled the well-maintained white bedding. It was difficult to guess his age because he had a thick cotton cloth over his eyes.

Judging by the wrinkles at the corners of his mouth, he might be a similar age to the Duke of Madeleine.

"This is someone I met just like I saw a priest. He is the person who built this house and has been here for the longest time. Because healing is difficult with my abilities..."

Jerun's words were blurred. Listening to those words, I sincerely prayed to the man.

I didn't know where he came from or what happened, but I sincerely hoped that he would get better quickly and get back on his feet.

"Then I will take you to the entrance."

Jerun left the room first. As I followed him out, I stopped for a moment and looked at the man again. Could it be an illusion if the fingertips of a man who was said to have never woken up seemed to move ever so slightly?

I felt a strange sense of déjà vu as I stared at the fingers resting on the blanket. So, I felt like I had seen that man's subordinates somewhere.

Perhaps. He doesn't have white hair, but his hair is pitch black and doesn't seem to have any light in it, so he looks like Edwin...

"Priest?"

"Oh, let's go!"

I answered cheerfully, shaking my head.

***

Even though I said it was okay, Jerun put on his hat tightly, saying it was a habit. Rather, the response was that it was amazing that I was not picky about anything.

"Doesn't everyone go around without covering themselves these days? I haven't been down to the village recently, so I was really surprised when I saw the priest earlier."

As the two passed by the lake, the children's laughter became more and more distant.

Only when the end of the breeze began to get colder did I realize that this was Senua's Valley again. I began to see unmelted eyes here and there.

"There are still some people who wear hats because they feel awkward, but most people feel comfortable going around."

I could be heard gasping briefly. Just the moment I stopped walking proved how surprised Jerun was.

It's still too early for me to be surprised.

I added as if it was no big deal.

"There is a separate street where people from Green Eye, that is, old Lowell, live together. Right now, the streets are being renovated, so everyone is living here and there in Vikander territory for a while."

"Are you saying there is a street where the people of Lowell live together?"

Jerun stopped, as if he had forgotten how to walk, and began to blurt out words. I couldn't clearly see his face looking back at me, but I could read his expression well enough.

I shrugged my shoulders and grinned.

"Sure."

“Rowena...”

He seemed really sincere. The voice that came out like an exclamation trembled. I waited until the end for Jerun's reaction, and then I asked gently as if to lighten the mood.

"Everyone in Vikander knows this, but is it because you haven't come down for a long time?"

"....I think it's been about four months."

It wasn't as long as I thought. Jeniv Street has been settled for at least a few years. Jerun must have felt my gaze on him as he added hastily.

"Sometimes we went down towards the border rather than the Vikander territory. I don't think anyone will remember us that way."

"..."

"Every time I went to Vikander Territory, I only sold herbs and quickly bought what I needed. There was nothing else to talk about, so I went there briefly. I never thought that would happen."

Jerun was speechless and looked down at his feet for a long time. Then he chuckled and took the breath he had forgotten. He continued to cough in surprise as his breath filled his lungs.

Even when the priest asked if he was okay, Jerun only blinked.

Even if it was the priest's words, he couldn't completely believe everything he heard. To be precise, he couldn't believe it.

After the fall of Lowell, Jerun wandered alone for ten years. Jerun knew best how the people of Lowell were viewed during those ten years.

But the perspective is changing, streets are even being created, and people are living together?

"Olivia!"

It was that moment.

Not only Jerun but also Olivia were startled by a sharp voice that seemed to cut through the airflow.

Edwin appeared a short distance away without any trace.

With a pale face filled with fear.

"Ed..."

As soon as his eyes met mine, Edwin rushed over to me and wrapped me in a hug. The warmth that touched my back made me shiver.

"I really, really feel like I'm missing you...."

Edwin's low voice, as if muttering in my ear, shook mercilessly. I bit my lip after hearing the words I couldn't even say at home.

My thoughts were short.

"Sorry"

Even if it was said that someone with Lowell's blood would know that I was safe, I should have shown myself first.

Is it because of the warmth of contact, or is it because of relief?

Edwin's cold hands gradually began to regain their warmth.

Edwin slowly removed me from his arms and looked at my face. His pale eyes slowly regained their focus.

After letting out several breaths, Edwin slowly stroked my cheek.

"Where are you injured?"

"There isn't one! It's really okay!"

I smiled and took Edwin's hand again and placed it on my cheek.

The familiar warmth was invaluable.

Edwin suddenly remembered his family who had left him helplessly. The seat next to him was empty every time.

Edwin's eyes became dizzy again as he rarely felt this warmth again.

The most important thing to him right now was Olivia.

It's not like an unsolved secret.

"Liv..."

What should he say first? It was time for Edwin to sigh for a moment and dry wash his face.

"Greetings to your noble grandson."

It was clearly a greeting addressed to Edwin himself. An old man wearing a thick coat was polite to Edwin in a trembling voice.

"Jerun, Rowena's faithful servant, meets His Majesty the King."

Jerun quickly took off his hat and finished his Introduction while taking a shaky breath. The dazzlingly tall man clearly had the aura of Lowell royalty.

He is the heir to the royal lineage and the priestly lineage. Jerun had no way to control his overflowing heart.

'Rowena. If this is the reason you kept me alive...'

"Ah, Edwin. This is Jerun. He's the healer who saved me earlier, and again..."

"Miss!"

A loud voice covered the priest's words. Jerun looked toward where the voices were coming from and was shocked once more.

"What a relief. Are you okay? Are you hurt anywhere? I really thought my heart was going to drop earlier, but luckily the Lady had friendly energy...!"

The robed wizard covered her mouth in surprise. She opened her light blue eyes wide.

"Oh my God."

"...!"

"Are you really from Lowell? In Senua's Valley, in Lowell...."

"This is Rowena's servant, Jerun. Is this a wizard from the royal family...?"

The wizard just blinked as if speechless.

A red-haired knight and a mustachioed knight were also following behind. Jerun instinctively tried to shrink his body.

There was no hint of contempt in the way they looked at him. Rather, a sense of homogeneity. Or more.

The anticipation that he had always harbored and had to extinguish bloomed again in Jerun's heart.

If what the priest said was true, then everyone in the cabin they now called home might actually be able to go out into the world again.

It was overwhelming for both Bethanny and Dean. There really are people from Lowell in Senua's Valley. A person who seems familiar with Lowell to the point where he calls the Grand Duke his royal grandson.

Surely, if he were an old man, he might be able to solve Lowell's secrets that they had been unable to solve until now.

It was a time when everyone was speechless due to different expectations.

"Lord Drowyn."

"Yes, Your Highness."

"Get ready to go back right away. Send someone to the castle first and order them to prepare for the Young Lady to be examined."

"Edwin?"

I said it was definitely okay. Edwin's expression was unusual. I cautiously called Edwin.

Normally he would have answered right away, but he looked directly at me and said.

"And in the valley of Senua..."

"..."

"There is nothing more to check, so let's just withdraw."
