IDEFYEM - Chapter 64

Black Man I'll Do Everything For You Except Marriage!

I held a strategy meeting with Sarah and Vermont late into the night.

They said they would immediately go to the address written on the ticket tonight and check out where the auction was being held.

It would be a great help if they could figure out the approximate structure even from a distance.

Two people were enough, and I stayed because I had other things to do.

"..."

It was to take care of Kael, who had been left alone in the room earlier.

Yesterday's disheveled appearance was gone, and the man put on his uniform again and showed up at the office.

His mouth, which was always raised in front of me, rarely became stiff.

"After you ran away, my side felt very cold."

"Ugh, that's...."

Kael asked, flipping through the papers noisily.

"Was the night we spent together that bad, Enri?"

"Don't say things in a way that causes misunderstanding on purpose!”

I knew he was joking, but I couldn't help but feel nervous.

"That's Okay!"

If Kael showed up like that, I couldn't just sit back and be embarrassed.

He pouted as if he was going to pout if he played anymore. Then Kael lifted one eyebrow and stood up from the desk.

He came over to the sofa where I was sitting and sat next to me, observing my expression.

"You know I did it because I was embarrassed."

"Sure, I know."

It was a soft voice, a clear change from before when he deliberately pretended to be sad.

"Why are you doing this when you know?"

"Why not when you can see such cute things?"

Now I see that Kael is sitting next to me, observing his protruding mouth. I jumped up and pushed him away.

"I really hate it. Go away!"

"In the end, the same situation as in the morning is repeated. My heart breaks for you."

"This time it's because of you!"

I was caught up in Kael again and raised my voice without realizing it.

When I looked at his smiling face up close, something vaguely seemed to dawn on me.

"So please accept me as I am, please..."

A few sentences I remember from a conversation we clearly never had.

Last night, did I have a dream?

Suddenly I had a doubt, so I opened my eyes and looked closely at Kael. It would be nice if he said that because he really likes me. I was concerned about that attitude that confused me. He said I was cute and that he was sad that I left in such a hurry.

Is this whole situation still just a joke to Kael?

If there was any sincerity mixed in, I wouldn't have said it first. I want to leave open the possibility that this marriage will not end with just a contract.

When my thoughts reached that point, I felt like I was going to pout and pout. Kael seemed to have sensed the subtle change in my nerves and opened his mouth.

"Uhm, what I was seriously trying to do was...."

When there was no answer, he spoke as if he were coaxing a 5-year-old child who was having a temper tantrum.

"It's almost dinnertime. Shall we go to a restaurant to eat meat?"

When I heard Kael say those words, I actually felt like crying.

Let alone a decent woman, this is how you treat someone as an idiot who falls for meat!

Okay, let me follow you.

***

10 minutes later, I came down to the restaurant with Kael, and were waited for dinner.

I'm not fooled by the fact that the chef's steak cooking skills are fantastic.

It was because I felt that I had to report the situation to Kael.

The reason my mouth is watering right now is definitely not because of the smell of grilling meat.

"... So, that's how it is happening."

I briefly explained what I had discovered about the Duke's slave auction business. I also had the goal of rescuing other victims, but my top priority was still Kael's curse.

He also had a duty to keep me informed of how the situation was progressing.

"..."

But for some reason, there was no particular reaction from him.

"Isn't it difficult because it coincides with wedding preparations?"

"I don't have much to do anyway, so it's okay."

"Always take care of yourself, and if you need any support, please let me know because I will not hesitate."

If I were Kael, I would have urged him instead of just asking him questions. I didn't quite understand why he seemed quite relaxed, let alone relaxed.

"Aren't you anxious?"

"Because I trust you, Enri."

Just then, the chef came out and delivered a plate with well-cooked meat on it. I almost lost my attention to the plate that was still hot and sizzling, but I soon came to my senses and continued speaking.

"No matter how much you believe in me, this is a matter of your life at stake."

"I thought so at first... Well, Enri."

Kael said as he pushed me a plate with the thickest and largest steak on it.

"There are many things in the world that are more important than matters of life and death."

It was a kind look in his eyes that seemed to say, for example, that he was watching me happily eat a meal. Of course, it may be a ridiculous illusion created by my wishes.

"..."

It's already been almost a season since I've been with Kael. In this strange atmosphere, I once again strengthened my resolve. As much as he doesn't value his life, I should cherish it.

It will make you have a very healthy body and make you want to live a long, long life. Together, I will let you know that there are many fun things to do in the world.

"What are you thinking about?"

When Kael asked, I didn't say anything and just smiled.

"No. Let's eat quickly."

***

After much preparation, time passed and the day came to attend the auction.

From what I heard from Tristan in advance, all the nobles attending would be wearing masks.

'I know they are doing something dishonest.'

So I chose an outfit similar to the one I would wear when attending a masquerade ball. I covered my face and wore a dress that gave off a different atmosphere than usual.

By wearing a wig, all of Enrica's features were covered so that not a single hair was visible. This was because we had calculated the risk of encountering the Duke or his entourage.

Sarah also disguised herself as a sister by wearing a wig of a similar color to me. I thought it would be a little more natural if two women entered together.

Before getting off the carriage heading to my destination, I took a long, deep sigh.

Even if I pretended otherwise, my mind was full of various imaginations.

'Even if I attend the auction, what if there is nothing I can do?"

No matter how much they combined, they would never be able to compare to the power of the first Prince and the dukedom.

If I have to see something terrible and pretend not to notice it if I fail...

Sarah must have sensed my feelings and quietly held my hand next to me. For a girl with a refreshing personality, I thought it was quiet and calming comfort.

Her mouth opened slowly.

"For me. You don't know how many failures I've had to get to this point, Young Lady."

"..."

"I almost died so many times, I want to give up that much. I thought I should just forget about revenge and leave."

Sarah's voice trembled as she talked about death, as if she was remembering that time.

"But I survived and I'm standing here. And I will achieve as much success as I have failed, so there is no need to worry."

"Sarah...."

"And what if I fail? Whether it's a week, a month, or a year, the opportunity will come again."

As soon as Sarah finished speaking, the wheels of the carriage stopped rolling. It was a carriage deliberately rented on the street to hide our identity.

A coachman wearing a brown hat opened the carriage door and cleared the way for us.

"You're right. Today is just an exploration game, so don't think about it too hard."

I smiled faintly and shared a look with Sarah. It was a look that contained a lot of meaning without saying much. Finally, I took a deep breath and acted like I had been there several times.

It was better not to attract unnecessary attention.

As I entered the alley that Sarah and Vermont had looked into in advance, I saw a large man standing guard at the entrance. After handing over the admission ticket without making eye contact, I was just about to enter the entrance.

"For a moment."

The man looked closely at the admission ticket and blocked our path. He stared at the admission ticket for what felt like a very long time. Fortunately, I was able to hide the anxiety on my face because I was wearing a mask.

'Why on earth is he looking at me like that?'

'I don't know either.'

While exchanging glances with Sarah, the man suddenly opened his mouth.

"Please tell me your password."

"What?"

"Sorry. We can't let you in without a password."

The man who opened the ticket with his eyes said that as if he had come to a conclusion.

In my graying mind, I quickly recalled the conversation with Tristan.

A password, I've never heard of such a thing!
