Do Your Best And Regret

'Oh, what should I do?'

Ethella gritted her teeth.

Even though dozens of seconds had already passed, the Empress did not tell her sister to raise her head.

Ethella knew better than anyone how difficult it was to be polite. Without realizing it, her feet started rolling.

But the Empress didn't even look at her sister. Instead, she slowly focused her gaze on the Lady on the table with her face as beautiful as a rose.

The Empress did the same with Ethella.

Goosebumps ran down the backs of Ethella's hands as she looked nervously at her sister.

She is a neat and beautiful Empress. She is the benevolent mother of the empire. However, the brown eyes of the Empress she met for a moment were so sharp that it seemed as if they were suffocating her. Her sparkling eyes immediately overwhelmed the mood.

"She will suffer so much from the Empress's poison that she will die."

Venomous snake. She's also a very poisonous snake.

Ethella tightly held the hem of her dress as Conrad's words pierced through her mind. She came to help her sister, but instead, she got scared.

Ethella lowered her head and bit her lip. Blood glimmered over her red lips. The situation was the same for other noble ladies. Either they smiled awkwardly, or they unknowingly avoided the Empress' gaze.

She held the atmosphere of the table in her hands. The Empress smiled gracefully and looked to her side.

Even though it was under an awning, it was an unusually hot day. In this sweltering heat, Olivia Madeleine waited for the Empress's greeting without wavering. Even though it had been several minutes, her posture was so perfect that it could be found in an etiquette book.

'Olivia, something has changed about that lowly half-baby. She can't do that without going crazy. They were always laughing at her.'

The Empress lifted her lips at an angle. It was indeed true that she looked different. Olivia's attire was flashy, putting to shame her past of wearing dull, gloomy dresses without any jewelry.

One thing, even if things had changed, Olivia was still Olivia.

The shame of the Duke of Madeleine. She is a foolishly obedient Princess. And she is half-hearted, always afraid of something.

Olivia could put as many things in her hands and massage them. She brought the Crown Prince to her side, reclaimed the abandoned mine, and eventually left the Grand Duke in misery. Then, those jewels, which were precious at first glance, would also belong to her daughter, who would become the Grand Duchess.

The Empress smiled sweetly and spoke generously.

"...How long has it been? I was lost in sentiment for a moment."

"Here comes the Empress."

Olivia slowly raised her body. The Empress, smiling softly, tilted her head for a moment. Did she go crazy because it was so hard?

The face of the Princess who met her for a moment had a strange smile on her face.

"Go to your seat. Everyone was waiting for the Princess."

The Empress shook off her uneasy feeling and spoke.

The seat she indicated as if showing her generosity was at the very end of the table. It was a seat selection that was far from the head of the table at a table where people sat in order of rank.

That was the way she always had a place for Olivia. She is at the very bottom, or standing without even a chair. And Olivia was never dissatisfied with the position. She is, at least as far as the Empress knows.

"I apologize, Your Majesty."

"Huh?"

So when the quiet voice turned towards her, the Empress tilted her head for a moment. Her red hair swayed like a sweet rose.

Olivia knew how to say 'I'm sorry', but she didn't know how to ask back.

But when she turned her head, Olivia was smiling as if she was embarrassed.

That can't be possible.

The Empress's fine eyebrows slowly hardened. Olivia took a deep breath as she looked at that figure.

"I would appreciate it if you would call me 'Young Lady."

"What?"

"Now that I am not from the Duchy of Madeleine, I am not in an appropriate position to be called the Princess."

The gaze that met in the air was sharp. The Empress's narrow, searching eyes swept over Olivia.

What a Young Lady.

Olivia was the other half of the woman who always cherished the title 'Princess'. She asked the Empress to call her by the title 'Young Lady' without even adding a last name.

"... The other day, when she entered the room, she didn't use her last name and said 'Olivia'. Did she really lose against the Duke of Madeleine?"

"Then what happens? Is there only one little Princess left in the Madeleine duchy?"

The whispering sound created a small wave. This place was filled with the Princess and the Empress's entourage, including the Marchioness of Offem and the daughter of the Marquis of Libeon, and there were a few soft-spoken people mixed in.

The plan was to use social media gossip to corner Olivia.

Following the previous concept, a midsummer banquet, Maria Ethel's engagement ceremony that she could not bear to see, and scandals about the Prince who was rejected by Olivia Madeleine. The only thing that could cover up all these scandals was Olivia Madeleine's scandal, and Olivia was laughing sadly in the midst of all this.

And she added a wedge to the exquisitely flowing atmosphere.

"Didn't Her Majesty take pity on my situation and assign me to the last position? If you thought I was a Princess, why..."

Olivia's incomprehensible face turned towards the Empress. It was a sarcastic remark about the Empress, who was said to be more noble than anyone else and possessed the dignity of the royal family.

The Empress looked at Olivia for a moment. Then she gently raised the corners of her mouth and made eye contact with her.

It's quite nice that she was hiding her claws. But even then, her claws will hurt her. The Empress immediately changed her expression. And she clicked her tongue and spoke as if she felt sorry.

"Well, somehow. The Duke's face seemed to have darkened considerably. It looks like her precious daughter was very upset and he was hurt by her departure."

Olivia laughed mischievously. The back of her hand trembled slightly as she rolled up her dress, but fortunately, the Empress only stared at her face.

She is a lovely daughter. Ethella's face darkened.

There's no need for that. Because she had no father.

Now, even when Olivia thinks of the Duke, her heart no longer hurts so much. Even the three syllables "father" coming out of someone's mouth could be ignored.

"If he are a father who loves his beautiful daughter, he may have seen the Marquis Ethel making an inquiry to His Majesty last night."

I thought she was amazing, but she had a really cool side.

"Princess..."

The Empress narrowed her eyes at her strangely steadfast spirit. Her venomous eyes flashed and she glared at Olivia.

 Olivia grinned.

"This is a corner I didn't know about, so thank you for letting me know. I will engrave it firmly and cultivate it further."

***

The fragrant scent of tea filled the air, and the ladies began to talk while receiving envious looks from the ladies.

"The Marquis Ethel was imprisoned in the mansion after kneeling in front of His Majesty's palace, right?"

"Was Lady Ethel also there? As far as I know, the Young Lady is going to His Highness the Crown Prince's palace...."

"That story is a secret for now."

The noble Lady looked at the Empress in surprise. Fortunately or unfortunately, the Empress had not heard anything.

While the silent ladies quickly moved on to saying something else, I thought of Maria Ethel. And she laughed quietly.

What was the reason she looked at me with that collapsed face?

It looks like she hasn't lost the Crown Prince's protection yet.

Truly, it was a love so heartbreaking that it brought tears to my eyes.

When the story had matured to a certain extent, the Empress smiled nobly and tapped the teacup with her fingernails.

When the sound of her gorgeous and sharp nails tapping on the glass was clear, the Marchioness of Offem, a close associate of the Empress, blurted out her words.

She said,

"He didn't manage her food well, so there will be no sympathy."

"It looks like there are a few people who would be in the same situation as the Marquis. How do you manage women's food?"

The sarcastic voice became a little louder. I looked into the distance as I realized that the target of her sharp sniping was the Duke of Madeleine.

The Empress at the head of the table raised her teacup as if she had nothing to do with this atmosphere. The ladies kissed and talked as if they were in a play.

"Yes. In that sense, how virtuous is Her Highness the Princess and how righteous she is, like a Saint?"

"It would be nice if everyone just followed Her Highness the Princess. Just look at the Lady of Ethel. Maybe she was being so careless."

"I try to set an example. I'm still not good enough."

The Princess lowered her head. Now it was the ladies' turn to cause more trouble. The daughter of the Marquis of Riveorn was astonished and exaggeratedly raised her voice.

"Your Highness, I don't think so. Lady Ethel, I think she will now reflect on her actions."

"Well, looking at it now, it doesn't look like it's just Lady Ethel. I heard an interesting rumor. Do you know anything?"

The Princess smiled subtly and looked at her surroundings. At the same time, everyone sitting at her table listened to the Princess.

"It is said that there is also a Lady who exchanged inappropriate letters with knights using the last Heferti war as an excuse."

War with Heferti. Letter with the knight.

I widened my eyes for a moment. All targets were pointing at me.

How did the Princess know things I didn't even tell Edwin?

What an inappropriate letter. People who did not even know the contents of the letter were eager to tarnish my reputation.

I actually had a different reason for my goosebumps.

Does the Princess know who the unknown knight is?

The story between me and the knight was clear. I really wanted to meet him at least once, but I can't believe I got a clue like this.

Could it be that the unknown knight is on the Princess's side?

My happy heart suddenly fell to the ground. Before I could even sort out my complicated thoughts, the noble ladies continued to talk.

"Oh my gosh. Who could possibly do something like that? Couldn't it have been an exchange with her fiancé, the knight?"

The voice was raised as if something terrible had happened.

"If that were the case, I wouldn't even have said anything. It is said that she contacted a knight whom she did not know, and who did not even know his rank or title, asking to meet her."

The invisible words, like a dense spider's web, began to narrow in on me with precision.

"Wow, even if her body is sweet, it is oily."

"It's truly disgraceful."

"Do you know who that Lady is? I won't even let her see my daughters."

"I heard that she sent the letter under the pretext of her brother, the vice-captain. As for the young knight who is the vice-captain, is it Lord Madeleine?"

It was just the beginning. These light stories were full of words with intention. All the ladies glanced at me.

In this situation, the Princess looked towards me with an accusatory smile on her face.

A new scandal has been added to the flawed Olivia.

Even so, they were already testing her chastity with a one-year grace period, and even the Grand Duke would not easily ignore her if another suspicion arose.

After that, they add new scandals to her every day, then take the dispirited Olivia into her palace, take away the white crystal mine, and place her next to the Prince.

The Princess now smiled and looked at the Empress. As expected, her mother's plan was perfect.

Her mood would not have changed if she hadn't suddenly heard a loud laugh, but.

"There's another interesting rumor about me."

"I beg your pardon?"

Lady Liveorn frowned as if showing signs of discomfort. But I grinned and made eye contact with her. I said with some suspicion.

"Still, if rumors do spread, I'm glad that it's less unfair to hear rumors about something I did than about something I didn't do."

"Oh my God! You really exchanged letters with a man outside of your home?"

"Careful, Princess. You wouldn't judge His Highness the Grand Duke's attitude to be the same even after knowing the story with that knight, would you?"

I smiled slightly. These nonsensical words were dismissed out of hand without going to Edwin's side.

Among the nobles making a fuss, the Princess was seen with her nose raised high.

As soon as their eyes met, a venomous face like a snake was revealed. A cruel smile that seemed to fully reveal her superior mood. Looking at her like that, I also spoke out about what I had prepared.

"In that case, Your Highness. I, too, would like to ask the truth about Her Highness's rumors. To me, it's a rumor."

A thunderbolt fell on the Princess, who was happily watching the flow of her story. Tension ran down her back.

Olivia's softly smiling eyes were laughing at her like last night.

It was a time when she remembered the embarrassment she suffered yesterday and became angry.

A calm voice came out from Olivia.

"Is it true what His Majesty the Emperor said about Her Highness visiting the Vikander territory?"

"What?"

The Princess's eyes were wide and irritated. It was all done in secret, so how could she know that...!

At that moment, the first day of the banquet appeared in the Princess's mind.

"The Princess, the host of the banquet, begins her first dance. May the Grand Duke be with you. It must have already been hard to welcome the Princess this time."

Right. The Emperor spoke as if showing off to everyone. As her embarrassing feelings from that time came back, Olivia tilted her head.

"I don't remember receiving any guests at Vikander Castle recently. Your Majesty the Emperor is mistaken."

Her suspicious gaze was directed at the Princess. The Princess became dizzy before her eyes. Meanwhile, Olivia's words continued.

"You traveled all over the empire in a place where there was so much construction. Your Majesty must be mistaken."

"Be careful what you say, Princess! What rudeness to Your Majesty!"

Marchioness Oftemp warned sharply. Olivia smiled slightly and nodded her head.

"Thank you for the advice, Ma'am. Now that think about it, His Majesty, who is so brilliant, can't possibly do that. Then you might think differently. What if Her Highness said she visited Vikander when Her Highness didn't even visit?"

No matter what she answered, it was enough to annoy the Princess. The Princess's face turned red with anger as she finally realized the intent of her words.

Olivia asked softly, looking at her face.

"Which rumor do you like better?"

The Princess eventually couldn't bear it anymore and got up from her seat.

Bang.

The sound of her hitting the table was loud.

  2. The plot is surely entertaining, seeing that so many things don't make sense:

    1. The princess and empress are known to be very pure and benevolent, when they regularly held tea party where other noble ladies are invited, and then openly bully a high rank noble. And people still think they are nice people?

    2. They try to create a big scandal on the FL so that her engagement with the ML will break, and go back to the crown prince???? Wouldn't the scandal jeopardize with the position of crown princess? Doesn't the crown princess and future empress be someone with a good reputation?

    3. Still don't understand the logic of the 1 year chastity wait. First, it shouldn't apply to the FL as she is not divorcing the prince and she had never have sex with him either. Second, the emperor clearly gave permission to the ML to marry FL after 1 year, so why was everybody thinking that the FL would go back to her previous position as crown princess? The only explanation is that everybody thought that the FL was deeply hurt and was throwing a tantrum by asking the engagement to be canceled, but seeing how she has moved on, they should have found out that this is not going to happen.
