IDMH - Chapter 30
I Decided My Husband
Recently, the biggest concern in social circles was which Prince Adele Leopold would choose as her husband.
It was only natural that interest would be focused on the Prince chosen by Adele as he would become the owner of Leopold's vast estate.
"Of course, you will choose His Highness the Second Prince, right? He went to Duke Leopold's funeral in person."
"Oh my, didn't you hear the news?"
"What news?"
"His Royal Highness the Second Prince bluffed to Lady Leopold that he could kill Pushik, but was completely humiliated!"
Chernosor wanted to ask about what happened at the Matina estate, but he couldn't because there were too many witnesses.
Regardless of social status, the majority of the people of the empire knew the story.
"Maybe that's why they had a big fight on the way to the capital, and they came separately when they came to the imperial palace."
"Oh my, really? Then His Royal Highness the Second Prince has crossed the water."
"Yes."
If the 2nd Prince, Chernosor, was not successful, the only remaining Prince was the 3rd Prince, Ian.
The nobles had no doubt that Adele would choose Ian.
Some nobles were already showering gifts on Ian and his mother, the First Empress, asking them to look after him well in the future.
However, Adele's actions completely exceeded their expectations.
She held Chernosor and Ian in both hands and weighed them.
After all, does she feel more drawn to Chernosor, who came to his father's funeral, than to Ian, whom she saw for the first time?
Or is she just checking to see which one would be suitable for the position of Duke Leopold, regardless of her preference?
Amid all kinds of speculation, the nobles watched with interest to see who Adele would choose.
Still, all nobles had in common the idea that they would choose one of the two Princes.
But once again, Adele's actions were completely beyond their expectations.
Not the 2nd or 3rd Prince, but the 4th Prince.
A half-hearted and idiotic Prince becomes Duke Leopold!
This fact shocked not only the nobles but also the people of the empire. What was even more shocking was that the Emperor allowed this ridiculous marriage.
What on earth is the Emperor thinking?
Is he really going to watch the idiot Prince become Duke Leopold? And why did Adele Leopold choose the idiot Prince as her husband?
"Maybe that's it? Lady Leopold has turned the 4th Prince into a scarecrow Duke and is trying to control the territory as she pleases."
"Oh, I see! It was like that!"
"But if she's going to do that, wouldn't it be better for Lady Leopold to become the Duke from the beginning?"
When a nobleman uttered a word, ridicule spread like waves in a calm lake where a stone was thrown.
"The Duke Leopold family has been a family of knights for generations. But how does Lady Leopold become a Duke?"
"That's right. Besides, Lady Leopold doesn't even have a knighthood."
"From what I heard, it seems like she learned a little bit of swordship, but not to that extent. If it's Duke Leopold, his skills must be outstanding enough to be envied by all knights."
The nobleman who spoke first was about to say that the same thing applies to the 2nd and 3rd Princes, but he closed his mouth.
The story of Adele Leopold marrying the idiot Prince Perdes stirred not only the social world but the entire empire.
"Are you really not going to stop these two from getting married, Your Majesty?"
The Crown Prince asked the Emperor, Daimon, on behalf of the curious nobles.
Daimon answered indifferently, tipping a glass filled with red wine.
" Okay. They've written a memorandum and there's no other reason to stop it, so we'll just leave it alone."
"There is also a way to kill the 4th Prince."
Daimon looked at the Crown Prince, who, although he did not admit it, was a blood brother, but did not hesitate to spit out cruel words about killing him.
The Crown Prince continued speaking without avoiding his gaze.
"How about killing the 4th Prince by pretending it was an accident and then asking Lady Leopold to choose one of the other Princes?"
"It's not that I haven't thought about that method."
In some ways, killing Perdes, the culprit who disrupted his plan, and resetting it was the best way.
Yes, in a way, Daimon held the wine glass to his slanted lips.
The Crown Prince waited for Daimon to put down his wine glass and then asked.
"Are you unwilling to take that method, Your Majesty?"
"Okay."
"May I ask why?"
When Daimon pushed the wine glass away, it fell to the bottom of the table and broke with a loud noise.
"That plan is as broken as this wine glass. Even if you force it back together, it won't be able to maintain its perfect shape."
The Crown Prince's eyes fell on the broken wine glass.
"So wouldn't it be right to abandon that plan and make a new one, Prince?"
The Crown Prince looked at Daimon again. He was smiling, his golden eyes unique to the royal family flashing.
He guessed the Emperor had another good plan. Well, he guessed that meant Adele Leopold was allowed to marry the 4th Prince.
The Crown Prince was one of the few people who knew what the Emperor truly wanted. He was also someone who really wanted to hold it in his hand.
"If there is anything I can help you with, please let me know at any time, Your Majesty."
The Emperor smiled and said in satisfaction at the flattering remark.
"There is still something you need to do."
***
"The imperial palace is very noisy these days."
Perdes muttered as he watched me pouring tea.
"I don't have to tell you who it is because of, but you know, right?"
I answered, pushing the teacup towards him.
"It's because of you and me."
"You speak calmly."
"Is there any reason not to?"
When I asked a puzzled question, Perdes shrugged his shoulders and picked up his teacup.
"Ugh."
After taking a sip of tea, his face distorted unsightly.
"What is this. Why do you make it like this?"
"It is a medicinal tea that is good for your body. I'm giving it all to you, so please bear with it even if it costs a little."
"It's not just a little bit bitter."
Perdes drank all of the medicinal tea while muttering dissatisfiedly.
You said you were going to drink well, but you said that for no reason.
I laughed to myself when I saw that. As expected, Perdes was a child not only in appearance but also in spirit.
After the medicine tea, we prepared a lunch so large that it broke my upper legs.
I tore off a large leg of the turkey and placed it on Perdes' personal plate.
Perdes ate the whole turkey leg while glancing at me out of the corner of his eye. As soon as his plate was empty, I kept putting steak and other fattening foods on his plate.
Then Perdes asked me with a pale face.
"The same goes for this medicine tea, why are you doing this these days? Are you really planning to fatten me up and eat me?"
"I have no intention of eating you, but I do intend to fatten you up."
"What?"
"Our engagement ceremony is in six days."
The day the Emperor gave permission for Perdes and I to marry, he declared on the spot that there would be an engagement ceremony ten days later.
Although an engagement ceremony is simpler than a wedding, it still requires at least a month of preparation.
Moreover, it was an engagement ceremony between the daughter of a Duke, the pinnacle of nobility, and the Prince.
But they said they would hold an engagement ceremony in just 10 days.
The nobles were the flagships, but I welcomed them.
I have to hold the engagement ceremony quickly so I can get out of the shitty imperial palace and return to my beloved Duchy of Leopold, as well as carry out my next plan.
"At that time, most of the nobles of the empire will be attending, but if Your Highness appears in such a pitiful state as you are now, it will be a disgrace to my face, so I hope you will gain some weight."
Perdes laughed as if my words were absurd and put down his fork.
"I'm a fake fiancé in name only, so you care so much?"
"Still, I have to take care since I'm your fiancee. So hurry up and eat it."
"..."
Perdes must have understood what I meant and picked up his fork again without complaining anymore.
I completely left my meal behind and was preparing Perdes' meal when an uninvited guest came.
It was Chernosor. His complexion was worse than when I saw him before as if he had been harassed by someone all this time.
As soon as Chernosor appeared, Perdes put on his idiot mask again and laughed like an idiot.
Chernosor, who saw that face, twisted his lips as if he was shocked. A chill dripped from the gaze he was looking at at Perdes.
"I didn't know that Lady Leopold had this kind of taste."
Those cold eyes immediately moved to me.
"Did you humiliate me back then because you liked this kind of idiot?"
Chernosor crossed his arms and sarcastically.
"Why, couldn't you have told me earlier? Then I would have tolerated it instead of getting angry."
"Even if His Highness held back his anger at that time, nothing will change, so I hope you don't blame yourself unnecessarily."
When I told him back that I would never have chosen him under any circumstances, a spark flew out of Chernosor's eyes.
"Then why have you been so nice to me all this time? Why did you treat me so well as if you were choosing me?"
"I did a good job for you, Your Highness?"
I tilted my head as if this was my first time hearing this and then clapped my hands like someone who realized something.
"Ah, do you think it was a good thing for Your Highness to be insulted?"
"!"
"Then there is nothing we can do. Everyone has different thoughts."
"Hey, Lady!"
Chernosor blushed and raised his hands as if he couldn't bear it any longer.
Are you trying to hit me? The bad hand habits I saw in my first life were not accidental but were part of his personality.
From the moment I provoked Chernosor, I was prepared to get hit.
I thought about that in the first place and provoked him.
And if Chernosor hits me now, I can use this as an excuse to prevent him from approaching me again, so I should be willing to take at least one hit.
That was when Chernosor's hand, raised high, cut through the air and quickly fell towards my cheek.
Slap!
"...!"
Perdes suddenly intervened and slapped me instead.
