IDEFYEM - Chapter 46

Black Man, I'll Do Everything For You Except Marriage!

It was obvious that someone had started a fire outside and then locked the door. Sarah began to hyperventilate as she saw the room gradually filling up with smoke.

Sarah was confused, not knowing what to do, and reached into the drawer where the wizard used to hide valuables. Contrary to his promise to come back, the inside of the drawer was empty.

He abandoned Sarah.

He ran away alone, leaving her as bait in this small cabin.

After setting the fire, he thought he might escape through the back door.

Sarah wanted to deny it, but there was overflowing evidence to support that fact.

'It wasn't a close relationship, but we were still together for several years.'

Sarah thought her teacher was the only person who saved her when everyone else abandoned her. But there was no time to indulge in such sentiments.

Black smoke flowed in and the sound of repeated knocking on the door.

Sarah finally couldn't bear it anymore and ran out the front door, where someone was waiting on the other side. Because it was better to be the target of a debt collector's anger and get beaten than to burn to death here.

However, when she went outside, the words that struck her ears were completely different from what she expected.

"She's the warlock's assistant! It's a red-haired witch!"

"Call, Cough! Well, what does that mean? Aren't you in debt?"

"Huh, you're shamelessly acting like a fool!"

Becoming a warlock wasn't something she chose herself. In this world, magic can only be used by those chosen by the spirits. A person who used magic imbued with the spirit's protection for wrongdoing immediately had his magic turn black and became a black magician.

The 'wrong thing' refers to something that harms ordinary people.

Even though he was a man of limited character, Sarah had never witnessed her teacher cross the line over the years.

"There was some mistake. Master...."

"She's a witch! Burn the witch at the stake!"

Even though she shouted hurriedly amid confusion due to the sudden influx of information in her head, the excited crowd did not listen to her.

Sarah bit the forearm that was restraining her with all her might to get out of there. And then she started running. She ran and ran again.

The destination was set. Finding out the identity of the teacher.

He was a new target for her.

For several months, Sarah traveled around the cabins and inns that were used as temporary shelters with her teacher and collected the remaining traces. Since it was her job to erase traces of her stay, it was easy to find hidden evidence again.

A huge amount of parchment and books had to be left behind at the accommodation because the luggage could not be increased.

Sarah started reading the magic books her teacher had forbidden Sarah to read, as many as she could get my hands on.

The Master told at least one truth. Sarah had talent.

Sarah, who read the teacher's documents she had picked up while moving through the village, over and over again, was able to understand the contents without difficulty.

'Master completely deceived me. This is an absolute black magic book....'

It was a moment when something she never wanted to believe was revealed to be true. All she thought she had learned over the years was useless theory.

It was as if she was wasting time and acting as a warlock's assistant.

What on earth has she done?

Sarah got on the carriage and headed home with dead, empty eyes.

'Hide your face with a hood and go quietly at dawn when no one is around.'

She knew it was dangerous and reckless, but Sarah had to do it.

I was afraid that if she didn't, Sarah wouldn't be able to bear it any longer. She really missed the ordinary country life that she once thought was boring.

Her hometown village, which too over a few days to arrive, had changed a lot. The tree on the hill that always bloomed with pink flowers in spring also disappeared. The farm fence made of wood had already turned into a stone fence, as if repairs had been completed.

Sarah, who was reminiscing about old memories, suddenly stopped. Something that shouldn't have disappeared was gone.

"No, that can't be. It can't be."

It's been a while so she foolishly thought she had misunderstood the location. But no matter how many times Sarah went back down the road and came back, the sight in front of her was the same.

Sarah's house, where she lived with her mother, had been reduced to ashes.

At best, it looked like a fire had occurred a year ago.

At the same time, Sarah soon realized a horrifying truth. As she got closer to the house, there was a faint smell of dark magic in the air.

Just then, there was a voice calling Sarah from the darkness.

"Oh my god, you... Can you tell me, Sarah?"

Although we weren't close, she was a neighbor woman with whom we often exchanged greetings. Sara forgot the thought of not revealing her identity and ran away in a huff.

"You're welcome here, Ma'am. Do you know the place my mom moved to? Why is the house like that?"

The lady had a blue face as if she was in a very uncomfortable situation. The middle-aged woman, who had kept her mouth shut, reluctantly spoke at Sarah's urging.

"Your mother passed away around this time last year. Can't you tell when you see that house?"

"... Yes?"

"It was a fire of unknown cause. Everyone said it was her daughter's punishment."

Her ears rang. Sarah muttered absently.

"I won't believe it until I see the grave for myself."

However, the lady spoke long, as if she were avoiding something. It was only when Sarah cried out almost threateningly that she could hear her voice sounding like it had been squeezed out.

"Well, that's it one has spoken to your mother since you disappeared. The Lord threatened to banish anyone who helps your mother... So the grave... We couldn't make it. Just a body on a hill...."

Ha ha ha...

A laugh that didn't fit the situation came out of Sarah's mouth like a crazy person. The knowledge of black magic she had acquired for several months to understand her teacher's plans was running wild in her head as if it wanted to get out.

On that day, an entire village, including the Lord's castle, was burned down.

Sarah shed red tears of blood as she looked at the black magical power.

And she made a promise.

From today onwards, the only thing that will fill her heart is revenge. She said he would not give her heart to anyone and only think about finding her teacher again.

Is it really him who set her mother's house on fire?

If that's true, why did it have to be that way?

For the first few years, keeping that promise was easy. Sarah took on the identity of a fallen nobleman and disguised herself as a maid. It was to be close to the social circles where all kinds of information was exchanged.

It's been several years since Sarah started searching for her teacher's whereabouts.

Sarah met a little girl who somehow reminded her of the past. She definitely promised herself that she wouldn't give her heart to anyone.

The fluffy hair that keeps strangely stealing her attention. The mouth that rises while looking at others, the round eyes filled with awkward kindness...

Actually, these are all things Sarah missed so much that it brought her to tears.

"You look like Lili, who I knew when I was young."

"Yeah, really? Who is that?"

"This is a dog I picked up on the street and raised. The soft and fluffy fur was really cute."

***

After Sarah's story ends.

I bit my trembling lower lip for a moment.  Sarah's back gradually became damp from my tears.

"Why are you crying, lady?"

She spoke in a playful voice as if trying to comfort me. My heart was pounding with various emotions that I couldn't pinpoint.

"There was a time when I was afraid of Sarah for no reason due to my prejudice."

"..."

"I think of Sarah like a sister now."

"Oh."

It was a sufficiently unconventional statement in a caste-based society. Sarah seemed very surprised and even let out an exclamation that she rarely said.

"I will do whatever I can to help. So don't leave."

Sarah, seeing my wet eyes like a poor puppy, started to hesitate.

"I will walk with you on your path."

I dug into the gap held Sarah's hand tightly and said. Sarah, who had been mumbling her lips for a long time and talking, removed her tongue.

"Actually, there's one more thing left that I couldn't tell you. I thought the Lady might be shocked so..."

"It's okay, so tell me quickly."

"The reason I was leaving was because I found out where my old teacher was. He was very good at running away, so I was always one step behind... I'm sure this time."

"That's a good thing! Where is he?"

A deep sigh was heard.

Sarah asked again with her eyes as if she was really going to listen. As I nodded without hesitation, Sarah slowly spoke.

"After leaving the duchy and coming here, my free time has increased a lot. I gained a lot of information by being able to carry out the research that I had been doing secretly at night during the day."

"..."

"I captured the most crucial evidence while I was at the hunting banquet."

I was wondering what on earth you were trying to say by taking such a long time. Indeed, what followed next was quite shocking.

"Lady, he is currently staying at the Duke of Wintersoar."
