IDEFYEM - Chapter 17

Black Man, I'll Do Everything For You Except Marriage!

Clearly, the terrace where the Grand Duke's voice had been heard just a moment ago was empty. It seemed like someone had just left, and all I could see was a slightly open door.

I looked at the empty space with a confused mixture of joy and bewilderment.

There was a clean, pristine handkerchief lying on the chair.

Are there any initials engraved on it?

I picked up the handkerchief and looked at it, but I didn't see anything like it.

'I'm sure it's not the Archduke’s.'

It was hard to imagine that he was a villain carrying a handkerchief.

Wow, isn't there poison on it?

When my thoughts reached that point, I jumped up and put the handkerchief back on the chair. But even as time passed, no special reaction appeared.

I really.....

I had no choice but to come to the conclusion that it was just an ordinary handkerchief for wiping away tears or something.

I met with the Grand Duke, but nothing was resolved. I was the one who wanted to run away, but the one who ran away without saying a word was the Grand Duke.

What on earth is this?

At dawn, when the dance was about to end, I came out of the terrace feeling very uneasy.

Naturally, the Duke's carriage could no longer be used.

However, I didn't want to bother Kael, so I didn't ask for a separate carriage.

I was leaving the banquet hall with the intention of paying money to rent a carriage. For some reason, it seemed like a group of arrogant nobles had gathered in one place to watch something.

As I walked towards the muttering. wondering what it was, I saw a familiar face.

"Kael?"

At that sound, the mouth of the tall man leaning against the carriage slightly curved.

In an instant, people's eyes were focused on me. Everyone had expressions of disbelief.

Huh, maybe the rumor that the Grand Duke proposed to me has already spread. It was clear that he thought of me as a shameless person who was having an affair, as I was openly hanging out with Kael in a place like this.

Actually, if you think about it, it's not wrong!

I quickly ran to him, holding on to the mask on my face.

"Did you come here to meet me?"

 "Shouldn't you have done that?"

Kael said as he opened the carriage door and let me in.

"No! thank you. I just felt the need to spread the word further."

"..."

"Well, I met the Marchioness and she still thought I was going to be the Grand Duchess. And what's really important is that I met the Grand Duke on the terrace...."

I thought it was strange that the man didn't respond, so I looked up. When I took off the mask and looked straight at him. I definitely saw something strange.

Unlike his usual sly smile, his face looked somewhat sad. His eyes were hard as if he had experienced something upsetting and sad.

It was hard to believe that it was him. I asked in shock.

"Kael, are you crying?"

"It's true that there were times when I wanted to cry, but I didn't cry."

The mood of the man who said that was so different from usual that I couldn't help but be taken aback.

"Aha, ha. Did you miss me that much? You won't be able to hold back for a moment and cry."

"Maybe so."

The response is lukewarm even to the tickling jokes. It meant that the situation was serious.

While I was at a loss, his face came closer and closer inside the narrow carriage. I felt like I was going to lose my mind for a moment as the blue eyes got closer.

"Uh, uhh. For a moment".

Tuk.

The destination was not the lips. Kael lightly rested his head on my shoulder.

After thinking harshly for a moment, my face turned bright red. Still, my heart was still pounding. While my nerves were tense, the man muttered.

"Don't hate me too much."

Only then did I realize the sense of discomfort I had felt earlier? The faint smell of alcohol on KaeI tickled my nose.

"Are you drunk?"

What, was he drunk?

Feeling relieved, I raised my hand and stroked the black head that was leaning against me.

He looked like a big puppy and was a bit cute. The man flinched slightly and continued speaking again.

"If I could go in and out of your heart even once, I wouldn't have a wish."

"Are you talking about my heart?"

"I'm not interested in people other than you anyway, Enri."

This person is like this even when drunk. Kael seemed to have read my inner thoughts and said with a small smile.

"You don't believe me again."

"It's strange to believe that. You seem like such a playboy."

When I complained, the man made a few excuses as if he felt unfair, and then quickly changed the subject.

"Are you okay? I heard something bad happened."

"Is it bad?"

"I met the Grand Duke who was scary and disgusting just by looking at his face."

"Oh, well. Come to think of it. I ended up saying that."

I moistened my lips and removed my tongue.

"I didn't do anything, so it's okay. He was scary, but it was partly my fault."

"There is nothing wrong with you, Enri. It was me who was at fault."

"What are you talking about? I dragged you in."

I answered, looking a little pitifully at the man who suddenly started degrading himself.

"Even if that's not the case, I'm sorry that I felt like Kael was being criticized for no reason."

"Who said something bad to you?"

"When you picked me up. Everyone was whispering around us."

"Oh, that."

I was amazed at the man who answered so casually.

"Nothing's wrong with Kael?"

"They won't be cursing you, they'll be cursing me, don't worry about it."

"Ugh, thank you for your words, but that's nonsense. And if they're insulting you, they should feel even worse!"

"I'm used to criticism, Enri."

The Kael I knew was always a confident and relaxed man. It felt a little strange to see him show his weak side like this.

Come to think of it, I didn't know anything about him.

Also about the man's ancestry and family. Apparently, before I came, there was only one owner of that spacious count's residence.

I'll ask him if we have dinner together tomorrow, I thought and stroked his black hair again. I listened to the sound of his breathing becoming more regular than before and whispered quietly.

"Kael, are you sleeping?"

"..."

Hmm. I guess he really fell asleep. With a careful gesture, I returned the face resting on my shoulder comfortably.

I looked at the man's sleeping face and muttered.

"Sleep well, you appear in every difficult moment..."

My savior.

I swallowed the words I couldn't finish and smiled.

***

The carriage arrived at the Count's residence, but I sat down without even being able to touch Kael.

Even though he always kept the lights on in his office until dawn. I saw him come out to the training hall every morning.

I didn't want to disturb him, who was enjoying a good night's sleep for the first time in a long time.

When we didn't come out after a while, the driver knocked on the window.

"Well, Master, Lady. Excuse me..."

The coachman's eyes widened when he saw the man sleeping in my arms as if he had seen something he couldn't see.

"Shh."

When I put my Index finger to my lips, the driver nodded his head vigorously.

He's in a deep sleep and I don't want to wake him up. Could you help me get inside?"

"Oh, no. Anyway, how could I get into my Master's body? Okay, I'll call someone!"

"Oh, as far as that goes. You're already gone."

The coachman spoke gibberish as if he had just witnessed a very shocking sight and rushed off.

While I was staring blankly out the window at the back of the coachman. I felt a slight movement below.

Did you wake up because of a loud noise?

Before I could even look down, there was a sudden thud.

Kael suddenly woke up and his hand was touching the window.

The bright blue pupils glowed in the darkness.

It was surprising, but the man's face without a smile was cold. He approached me before I even had time to kiss him.

It was a completely different atmosphere than before.

"Kael, what are you doing".

The distance narrowed to the point where we could feel each other's breath.

I hope you won't be fooled twice!

And if it's the situation I'm imagining, it's going too fast!

I hesitated and took a step back, but even if I went backward in the narrow carriage, there was nowhere to run.

The man didn't care at all and bowed again.

And his lips...

It stopped just before it reached my lower lip. Suddenly, Kael's frown narrowed.

He blinked his eyes as if assessing the situation and asked.

"Is it a dream?"

'Dream... What should I do if I say that?!'

"It's not a dream."

After hearing the answer, the man immediately walked away from me in a gentlemanly manner. For a moment, there was an awkward atmosphere in the carriage.

Originally, it would have been right to question him, but I didn't feel like doing that to the man who seemed even more embarrassed than I was.

He continued to moisten his dry lips and then spoke, wiping his face.

"I'm sorry. I never thought I would have fallen asleep."

"No, well...."

"I usually sleep little, and especially not in front of other people. So, um..."

The man with a small frown chose to speak.

"You must have been very surprised. I'm sorry."

"It's okay. It can happen when a person sleeps."

I don't know if I can say it was a good time, but the people the coachman had called arrived just then. Seeing a scene different from what they had heard, the employees seemed to glance at the coachman with eyes that said, "Look at that."

Even though the coachman looked at me with aggrieved eyes, there was nothing I could do. Kael and I returned to our respective bedrooms, maintaining an awkward atmosphere.
