DYBAR - Chapter 26 Between A Transaction And A Request
Do Your Best And Regret It
Behind the maid who came running out of breath, another maid appeared. The emblem of the Princess's palace was engraved on the young maid's clothes.
"I have already made a prior arrangement with His Highness the Crown Prince, so please tell Her Highness that I will visit her later."
I said quietly. There was dignity in his voice. The flinching maid added urgently.
"Well, that... Her Royal Highness said that she had also asked for His Highness the Crown Prince's understanding in advance."
I smiled brightly. This wasn't the first time the Princess had treated me like this. There was a time when she had me running around in her palace all day long, no matter where Leopold was.
"Let me check."
I responded briefly and called Baroness Sopron. She would know clearly if it were a titled Lady rather than a young maid who could be deceived. It took her a while, but I waited patiently. I stood next to him and the Grand Duke said nothing.
But the answer the Lady who rode in my carriage brought was that Leopold had left the palace early in the morning.
"I was told to have dinner in advance because he might return late."
Baroness Sophron looked at my notice as she translated Leopold's words. My head went cold at her words, assuming that I would wait as expected.
A cold smile lingered on my lips. After sending a letter telling me to come urgently, Leopold broke his promise to me again. Also, the Princess, who had not made any promises, called me regardless of my schedule.
Unfortunately, all of this was revealed in front of the Grand Duke who came with me today. The excitement I had felt a moment ago was dashed by feelings of shame and humiliation. I could feel the Grand Duke's eyes on me from the side.
I proudly lifted the tip of my chin. I smiled brightly as if it was no big deal. Wearing the mask was something I was good at.
"I guess I'll have to leave for a while. Please feel free to watch."
"Miss."
I, who was about to walk, looked back at the Grand Duke. The Grand Duke walked in front of me with elegant gestures. When stood up and faced him face to face, I was surprised to see that he was a very tall man. The man naturally extended his hand to me.
"Could you please at least let me escort you to the carriage right now?"
I laughed quietly. The Grand Duke, who was making eye contact with me, held my hand and slowly kissed the back of my hand. My eyes widened as I felt soft lips brush across the back of my hand.
Someone let out a small exclamation, "Oh my," but even that sound was not heard.
The Grand Duke persistently made eye contact with me. The deep red eyes shone so brightly that they seemed to mesmerize people.
"You see, I always wanted to win."
The Grand Duke's voice was low. The eyes, which had a strange, enigmatic feel, momentarily sparkled provocatively and turned towards me.
"So it will be the same for My Lady."
A languid voice tickled my ears. And when the Grand Duke took his hand away from mine, I turned around and started walking away.
The moment he looked at my back, walking more gracefully than anyone else, the Grand Duke had a hunch. His wishful words had a very effective effect on the Young Lady.
***
I got out of the carriage and walked over to the Princess's palace. Sponsorship of roses in full bloom.
The Princess was sitting at her table under an awning blocking the warm sunlight. There was only one teacup, one tea plate, and even the chair the Princess sat on. Even the attendant wasn't close.
I looked at the princess with cold eyes, clearly noting that I would not be treated as a guest. Sensing my presence, the Princess raised her head and smiled brightly.
"Long time no see, Princess. It's quite late."
Unlike the curved corners of her mouth, her bright blue sea-colored eyes were glaring at me, full of venom. I took a slow breath and headed towards the Princess.
"I see you, Her Royal Highness."
"It's been quite a while since I sent a maid. I was almost disappointed that Princess did not come."
The Princess pointed ahead with a sad expression.
"Oops. I thought you weren't coming so I put the glass away. Is rose tea okay?"
The Princess's eyes as she looked at .e were full of mockery. She was clearly full of complex emotions, to the point where her hands turned white just a moment ago.
I was strangely at peace now. As I smiled softly, the Princess glared fiercely at me for a moment.
Laughing.
'How dare you act magnanimous in front of me on a topic that is only half-baked.'
The wheezing sound became louder. As she looked at my face, smiling at her as if nothing had happened, her unresolved anger rose up.
It was such a good feeling when the second Princess of Madelaine returned to the mansion with a broken look on her face. The same thing happened when there were rumors that Olivia had been kicked out. Now that vulgar half-baby won't be able to hold her face properly. Now she finally hit the button. Raina enjoyed the gossip with her cool heart. As the rumors of Olivia disappearing without even being traced became more wild, Raina was more willing to spread the rumors. What if she ran away?
Olivia Madeleine would eventually return to her, begging and asking for forgiveness. With a mountain of work piled up, Reina decorated herself beautifully, looking forward to the last day of the victory banquet. And on the last day of the victory banquet, as she was walking lightly to the banquet hall, she heard a strange rumor.
"...What? The Grand Duke proposed to the Princess?"
It was ridiculous. Her father, the Emperor, consoled her and said that eventually, the Grand Duke would kneel before her.
"The Princess has a precious treasure, so don't worry."
The words of the solemn Emperor were never wrong. Reina believed the Emperor's words exactly. He was the Emperor who always said that she was a treasure that would never exist again in the world. So she wondered what kind of man would dare reject her.
But the rumor was true. The Princess trembled with shame at the story that spread even before she entered the banquet hall. It was funny to see herself dressed up beautifully as if I was going to receive a marriage proposal. That lowly thing looked down on her so much.
Gritting her teeth, the Princess immediately called Olivia, but she did not come. She came here now with the usual excuse of being sick.
The Princess glared fiercely at me, who was standing in front of her. Even If she tried to hold back, her anger did not subside when she saw that aloof face. The Princess drank rose tea hastily to calm her anger.
The scent of the cooled tea was terrible. Just as she was about to get angry at her maid, I answered with my serene face.
"It's okay, majesty. I have something to tell you inside the palace anyway."
"It's inside. The Princess really enjoys what she says."
The Princess spoke lowly as if she was displeased. The Princess's voice grew louder as if revealing her discomfort.
"I want to sit here right now, but you dare ask me to move?"
"I'm fine, but I was just saying this because I was worried that Her Highness the Princess might become someone."
"What? Who to me?"
Because it's the same. The Princess snorted her laughter. Her anger overflowed like waves over her bright blue eyes. The Princess shouted sharply.
"Princess, Are you going to keep playing with words like that?"
"Tristan granary."
The place I spoke quietly about was the second richest and most fertile estate among Princess Reina Franz's properties. At the same time, it was one of the estates that she entrusted me with thework. At that moment, the Princess's eyes grew wide and irritated. Without missing a beat, I continued my words in a calm voice.
"Retail fiefdom."
It was the territory of a Princess who fell into the spring crisis. It was also a place that I restored without anyone knowing.
"Lecalle's necklace."
It was a necklace passed down like a legend from a kingdom that fell centuries ago. The Princess almost lost the fifth-richest territory of her estate, Miner, in order to claim this necklace, which was said to have brought her good luck, as an elf descendant. Of course, the person who fixed it was Olivia.
“White Crystal Mine”
"Princess!!"
The Princess slammed the table and stood up. The attendants from a distance glanced at the loud shout of the Princess.
The Princess's face turned pale. I tilted my head as I looked at her trembling lips.
"Do you mind if I don't tell you more?"
"This! What is this? Do you think I would even blink at that? You really wanted to marry my brother. What has the Grand Duke done that you dare threaten me now?"
I smiled brightly at the sight of the Princess gritting her teeth and shaking her head as if threatening. When I was entrusted with the task, the Princess would never have thought of something like this in her dreams. Because she didn't know this day would come.
I always had a hard time with the Princess. I was afraid of the Princess who entrusted me with the task, saying that it would test my qualities, and I was saddened to see the Princess encourage Leoford to dance with another Lady. When I realized that she was joking when she said that if I worked hard, she would invite me to a banquet, my eyesight became blurry.
She was a Princess who controlled me as much as the Empress. But when I put down her crown, I could see everything clearly. A person who gets embarrassed easily, gets angry easily, and makes threats clumsily.
The Princess was huffing and puffing in front of me with a red face. I looked straight at the Princess and grinned.
"Could you please move now?"
The reception room of the Princess's palace. The Princess sat down in her seat and gave orders to her maids with a calm expression.
"I have a close conversation to discuss with the Princess, so everyone please step aside."
"Yes, Your Highness."
Even the nanny, Baroness Rujas, who had been studying the Princess's face until the very end, left the parlor. Only then did the Princess glare at me with her poisonous eyes.
"Look. I kept a lowly woman in silence as my brother's fiancée, and then you upset my favor like this? I don't know what the Grand Duke was whispering about, but even now, kneel down, hit your head on the floor, and beg for my mercy. How dare you tell me something for which there is no evidence?"
Okay. There will be no evidence. The Princess felt a little relieved. She repeatedly emphasized that her mother was the Empress, from the time she first entrusted me with the job.
"Things that are lowly and foolish try to leave evidence. Princess, always be careful not to catch your tail. Or use the tail that you don't mind cutting off."
She always followed her mother's advice. Her maids who assisted Olivia were sent away to the outskirts of the country every few years. Reports were always delivered personally, so there was no way anyone else would have seen them. In any case, she could make the excuse that Olivia had been brought in as her maid to help her with her work. Although she came from a humble background, she did her work neatly and without leaving any traces.
Even a three-year-old child would have to know which of the words of the Princess and the words of the illegitimate Princess were trustworthy. The Princess lifted the tip of her chin proudly.
Thinking that her confident smiling face somehow resembled Leo Ford's, Olivia held out a piece of paper from her arms.
"This is a record of the use of my personal property."
As expected, the Princess didn't even look up.
"What is that?"
"This is the story about how I used my personal wealth to restore a retail estate that had fallen into the spring crisis when Your Highness was going through underground auctions looking for Lecalure's necklace."
"What?"
The princess hurriedly snatched up the paper. On one page of the well-organized ledger, the use of the money was clearly written.
"Do not lie! You disobeyed my orders and created double ledgers at will? The maids who were watching didn't say anything?"
"It is not a double ledger, but a copy of my private ledger. When Your Highness almost destroyed the Miner territory, you told me to deal with it at my own expense first, and all that remains is the record of me doing so."
"Something like this can be manipulated as much as you want!"
The princess shouted sharply. But I just smiled and pointed to one side of my copy of the ledger. Even the seal and seal stamped by the president of the Empire's bank were the same as at that time.
The Princess glared harshly at me as if she had decided to abandon her usual elegant and neat appearance. Her bright blue eyes wavered aimlessly. She seemed to suit this look better than the one that stubbornly hides her true feelings.
I quietly looked at the Princess and spoke.
"I have no intention of revealing this fact separately. I came here simply to ask Your Highness the Princess for a favor."
'Ask? Did you act like you were threatening me and then say please?'
"Why is this happening all of a sudden?"
The Princess glared at me. I looked down at the back of my hand for a moment, her eyes filled with hate. And I smiled.
"I need a dowry"
