DYBAR - Chapter 46 < Love The Fish You Caught Too >

Do Your Best And Regret It

"Dean. Aren't you training?"

Howard tapped Dean. After His Highness the Grand Duke and Princess Madeleine visited, the training ground where training resumed was once again filled with commotion.

However, instead of blending in with the noisy atmosphere, Dean stood facing the direction of the main road where His Majesty and the 'Princess' had disappeared. Dean's brown eyes stared blankly at his true nature, as if in disbelief.

"Nice to meet you, Lady. Dean Szellin, a knight of Vikander who is loyal to His Highness the Grand Duke."

Morning training time. Leaving behind the rows of knights, Dean showed respect to the Princess. The Princess's green eyes widened slightly.

She seemed to remember his eyes meeting last night. It was rewarding to show courtesy to the Princess by suppressing his anger.

Olivia Madeleine. The eldest Princess of Madeleine, the leader of the imperial faction, and the Prince's fiancee. She is the younger sister of Jade Madeleine, vice-captain of the Third Knights of the Imperial Palace, who was simultaneously out of control, and... An illegitimate and reckless child who arrogantly looks down on people with her green eyes, the symbol of a lowly dancer.

Although he didn't tell anyone, Dean knew the rumors about Olivia Madeleine better than anyone else. Although he despised her, on the rare occasions when he went to the bar, he secretly collected information about her through the island's newspaper.

So Dean could not trust the Princess. A Princess who loved the Prince and even tolerated his lover,  changed her attitude in an instant and came down to Vikander following her Grand Duke. She was definitely trying to do something devious.

Moreover, according to what he said, the Princess deserved to be cruel to me now. Dean hoped that the Princess would be very angry at him. So that the bean pods that are stuck in the eyes of His Highness the Honorable Grand Duke may fall away.

"Nice to meet you. Lord Szellin."

But when the Princess parted her lips, Dean's face distorted for an instant. Contrary to his expectations, she was nice and polite. This isn't it.

Dean inadvertently looked at the Princess. At that moment, Dean felt as if his breathing was suffocating. The green eyes looking at him had a dignity that no one could ignore.

Those eyes were looking at Dean and speaking clearly.

"Please take care of me in the future."

Please take care of her. What on earth does she mean?

Dean hurriedly lowered his head without realizing it. Dean Szellin of the world bows first to none other than His Royal Highness, Bethany, and his older sister Daisy. When he belatedly looked up, cursing himself for what an unsightly thing he had done, His Highness and the Princess had already entered the main palace.

Only then did Dean sigh in shame and glare at his true self. He heard it's so bizarre!

"Wow... What the hell, evil!"

Before Dean could finish speaking, he grabbed the back of his head. It wasn't enough that something strong hit him, and he was kicked hard in the stomach. In an instant, a heavy shadow fell over Dean, who was lying in the gymnasium.

"Be careful what you say to the Lady."

It was Howard. Dean blinked. So, the person who just knocked him out is Lord Interfield?

Howard threw away the large gauntlet he was holding with his characteristic indifferent face. Someone said,

 "Nice catch!"

A shout rang out. Only then did Dean come to his senses. Dean, who stood up in one swift motion, lowered his body and glared at Howard.

Seeing Dean reflexively preparing for battle, Howard shrugged his shoulders with a smile rolling out of the corner of his mouth. Anyway, His Highness had good eyes. He went around the battlefield, scouting out prominent figures, and called upon the Grand Duke's family.

He was a very malicious man who even picked up a man who was beaten to death. Now his height and physique are on par with Sir Howard. Still, in Howard's eyes, the moment he first discovered Dean was good. Dean was so thin that you could clearly see his ribs puffing out every time he breathed. Yellowish bruises all over the place. And even the light green eyes that were barely closed.

The guys who surrounded Dean were screaming loudly as they ran away.

"How dare you talk about such a lowly green-eyed subject! Your mother abandoned you because you had green eyes?"

It was only when Dean let out a low growl that Howard came out of his thoughts and looked at him. The brown eyes in the fiercely raised eyes flashed beautifully.

"Now when she was a Princess,"

"Not a Princess, but a Young Lady."

But there was no reason for Howard to look down on him just because he was a guy with a sad past. Even more so, if the person he is disloyal to is the girl to whom His Majesty gave his oath...

Especially now that he has decided to be loyal to her. Howard snapped his finger. At the same time, Dean's sun-painted face turned as red as his red hair. A sharp atmosphere was formed in an instant.

In contrast to Dean's breathing, which was wheezing with anger, his brown eyes turned cold. Soon, people gathered in a circle around Howard and Dean in the training hall. One of them spoke arrogantly to the trainee knights.

"Watch carefully. Lord Interfield and Lord Szellin's bare-handed fighting is real combat itself."

"No way. Still, I heard that Sir Szellin is Sir Interfield's best disciple. Does he really want to be that harsh?"

The apprentice knight looked at the senior knight in disgust. At the same time, the apprentice knight had to correct his thoughts as he watched Sir Szellin rushing towards Howard as if he were going to kill him.

It is said that the fiery temper of Dean Szellin, who rushed at the Heferti army as if they were going to kill him on the battlefield, also applies to the fearsome Sir Howard Interfield.

***

A loud cheer rang out from the training ground we had left behind. As I entered the main garden, I glanced back.

I could see sand and dust swirling in the wind like a whirlwind.

Amidst the enthusiastic cheering, Howard and Dean's names were heard at first glance. Dean. Dean Szellin. I chewed Dean's name in my mouth. Then suddenly Edwin brought his face in front of me. A distance of only 10cm.

At a distance so close that I could feel his long eyelashes fluttering, I held my breath for a moment. Edwin glanced at my beautiful face. Contrary to his innocent expression, his red eyes were deeply sunken and persistently attracted my gaze.

"If you're interested in the knights, it's right next door, Olivia."

It was a voice so alluring that it sent shivers down my ears. The eyes looking at me were even sweeter. I unconsciously remembered last night. I looked somewhere else and responded to his dark gaze which strangely made me heat up.

"....Well. The knight next to me is already so interested in me that I feel confident."

Contrary to my sly retort, my peach-colored cheeks turned red. And Edwin liked the answer. Now it has been revealed that this suspicious Young Lady trusts her own feelings, even if only implicitly.

Edwin swallowed his laughter and looked heartbroken.

"Are you saying you don't feed all the fish you catch?"

"It can't be. But I just want to love everyone in Vikander where my fish live, ah!"

I, who was responding to Edwin's words, widened my eyes in surprise. The hand I held out without thinking was caught by Edwin's hand. He holds my hand every time he escorts me, but for some reason, my heart is pounding as if he's holding it for the first time.

Edwin's hands felt unusually hot. I'm not sure I'm sober. Because early in the morning I ate tomato soup. Even though I kept trying to think of other things, I was still conscious of Edwin's hand and gaze.

The moment our eyes met, Olivia swallowed a sigh of relief. Edwin continued mischievously.

"Why are you looking like a surprised rabbit?"

"That's because you caught it suddenly."

"So you don't like it?"

At the same time as the voice was full of worry, the hand that was holding me tightly slowly relaxed. I was saddened by the hand that was withdrawn as if he was about to let go at any moment, so the moment he grabbed my hand again, Edwin's eyes turned kindly.

"I knew you could easily manipulate me like this."

How easy it is to manipulate someone. My heart is pounding so hard I'm out of breath. But instead of speaking, I stuck out my lips in a pout.

"It is welcome to love Vikander."

"..."

"As much as you care about Vikander's territory, please also show interest in this caught fish."

My cheeks turned red like a ripe apple every time his gaze met me closely.

Edwin loves the way my little hand twitches in his hand. Edwin decided to carry out a trick even though he knew that this rabbit-like girl would run away.

"...Let me elaborate for my shy girl."

Edwin pulled my hand closer to him. When green eyes widened in surprise, Edwin kissed the delicate wrist, whose pulse was beating rapidly. Only after the sound of his lips touching my skin sounded somewhat erotic, did Edwin lower his eyes and let go of me.

"I'm asking you to treat me properly."

A piece of red temptation hung at the tip of his lips. An extremely drowsy voice rang in my ears. I pulled my arms out of Edwin's grasp and pulled them in front of my chest, feeling the tender flesh on the inside of my wrists above my pulse points hot as if they had been burned. I didn't know what to say, so I turned around on my heels. My graceful, Princess-like steps toward the grand siege became faster and faster.

As I ran away without noticing the passing servants and maids bowing toward me, I heard loud laughter from behind...

"Miss?"

Bethany, who was sitting on the balcony, called me with a puzzled look. Of the two people who went out side by side to see the knights after breakfast, only the girl with a bright red face came back, wondering where the Grand Duke had gone.

"Yes? Ah, Bethany,"

Her white and pretty face was somehow dazed and excited. It wouldn't be hot in the cool north. Bethany, who had been skeptical, soon caught on and smiled softly. As expected, the sound of Edwin's laughter was spreading cheerfully in the distance.

But Bethany, like a wise adult, pretended not to notice and took out my chair. I sat down in my chair and fanned my hands, showing off my hotness.

"Have you had a good look at the knights you can entrust as escorts?"

"Ah yes."

Right. Only then did I think again of the reason I had come to see the Knights?

"Inspecting the territory is also good. However, I leave with a dedicated maid and escort driver."

I remembered what Edwin said at breakfast. When I thought of Edwin's voice, I felt an unknown heat rush to my cheeks again. I fanned my hands and cleared my throat loudly. The way Bethany looked at me felt strange, so I said to myself.

"...It's not as cold in the north as I thought."

"I can't believe you're not cold. Thank God, Miss."

Bethany looked so happy that my conscience prickled a little. I quickly turned my back.

"But how are dedicated maids assigned? I have not yet become a Grand Duchess, so it is an awkward situation for me to receive favor from a family of vassals."

The Grand Duchess' dedicated maids were usually ladies from the Grand Duke's family.

However, I knew very well that the Grand Duke's vassals also participated in the war in which the previous Grand Duke died, and that their families were cut off one after another. I said that if Edwin comes later, Bethany will take my side...

"Then I can take over as the dedicated maid!"

I blinked at the sight of Bethany clapping her hands energetically.

"But Bethany is a butler and a wizard of the North... Oh, by the way, there was one more. You also have to do handicrafts."

But Bethany shook her head as if there was no problem.

"Don't worry. I originally came to Vikander as a dedicated maid to the previous Grand Duchess."

If you would like to speak to the previous Grand Duchess. She is the last Princess of the fallen Duchy of Lowell. Talking about the principality was largely treated as a taboo. I heard that the reason the previous Grand Duke went to war was because of the previous Grand Duchess.

I remained silent at the thought that came to mind at first glance. Bethany's eyes, which soon became moist, smiled brightly.

"Really Miss what will you do with the escort driver? I heard you got along quite comfortably with Winster in the Islands. Would you like to keep Howard in charge until he gets here?"

I never asked about the previous Grand Duchess. Instead, I looked at Bethany's face, full of longing, and smiled mischievously.

"I want to get along well with everyone."

Bethany tilted her head as if wondering. What does how to get along with everyone have anything to do with choosing an escort? Then, no wonder, she looked at me with her eyes. She rolled her eyes and smiled, nodding her head as if I guessed right away.

"I'm thinking about taking turns as an escort driver."

"That's a good idea, Miss?"

"Let's start with Sir Szellin."

I smiled and looked towards the training ground. The moment I thought of Dean Szellin glaring at me, I felt like I heard a distant scream from far away.
