IDEFYEM - Chapter 71

Black Man, I'll Do Everything For You Except Marriage!

"She said she was coming to visit you in the hospital."

I understand that she wrote a letter requesting to postpone the date we were supposed to meet?

"When?"

"Now?"

A strange voice that I had never heard before came out of Vermont's mouth.

I blinked in bewilderment and suddenly thought about it.

Sophia may seem bold at first glance, but she is not so reckless that she does not respect the situation of someone who is in pain.

If she decided to come visit, there must be a good reason.

"What on earth did you get in response?"

"That is..."

Vermont hesitated as if he were reluctant about something.

I felt something strange about that behavior and gave the cat a quick shake.

"You can't tell me right now!"

"Originally, I should have let you rest, but after seeing the handwriting in the letter, I was so worried that I couldn't bear it."

The cat spoke softly as it rocked back and forth in my grasp.

"What? Why the writing?"

"You're so new to development. It looks like you don't even have the strength left to hold a quill, so I have to check your face in person."

When I heard those words, I forgot about my headache lowered my voice, and shouted.

"I thought it was strange that you kept writing letters in the form of a cat!"

"Well, that is."

My heart immediately dropped at the sight of him stretching his tongue.

Right. The reason Vermont didn't transform into his true self was because he felt sorry for showing the hurt he caused me.

'Fool, what's the point of coming to visit me in the hospital?'

The moment I was about to apologize sincerely, the cat opened its mouth.

"It was just because it was annoying."

"What?"

A droopy tail and therefore a lowered whisker. That was clear evidence of the truth.

But because of the thoughts I just had, I couldn't calmly get angry.

"Ugh."

In the end, I let out a strange moan without even being able to scream.

My face was swollen from sleeping all day, and I wasn't feeling well yet.

It was my first time entertaining guests at home, so I had some concerns.

"What about Kael?"

"I heard he was busy or going out somewhere."

First of all, it was bad news that the most trusted person was not at home.

"What about Sarah?"

"She went out to check if her teacher was still staying at the Duke's residence. She said she was sorry for not being by your side more."

Wow, this was a really big deal.

The only thing I have around me right now is a cat that seems useful but is useless at times like this.

I took a deep breath, thought about it, and eventually made a big decision.

"Is Melua at the Count's mansion?

"Ah, that wizard. Yes."

"Then you can go now."

Vermont, who had been kicked out of the room, left looking a little glum.

I hurriedly pulled the string and spoke to the maid who was looking like she had a look on her face.

"Would you please make me look at least roughly acceptable? And please call Assistant Melua to the room."

"I understand, Miss."

The maid, who had instructed the maid under her to fetch Melua, began to prepare.

Maybe she's someone who is naturally smart and quick-witted, but in the blink of an eye, she changed me into a better person than I expected.

They selected clothes that were suitable for indoor wear but were not too light, so I was able to change clothes quickly.

Next, while I was combing all my tangled hair and removing the swelling from my face. Melua came in.

"What's going on, Lady?"

"I'm sorry, but look at this."

Despite the rudeness of showing Sophia's reply letter, Melua calmly read the letter.

After that, his expression became as serious as mine and he made a hum, hum, hum sound.

"For now, Young Lady, please greet your guests like this. I will move the table and chairs next to the bed and serve tea."

"Oh, yes."

"I will tell the employees to clean up the room and come out to meet her."

He quickly assessed the situation and competently helped me prepare.

If it were me, I would have been rude and greeted the guest in a rude manner.

As expected, sending him a rescue signal was a good choice.

"Great. But is it okay to greet guests while sitting on the bed?"

"She's visiting the sick person, so it'll be okay. And if I may dare to judge-"

Melua said with a slight smile after reading the letter.

"It seems like this person is running because she is truly worried about you. I don't think she pay much attention to hospitality etiquette."

Melua's words suddenly calmed my impatient mind.

"I know."

Why was I so worried?!

It was my first time inviting guests to my home, so I didn't want to make a mistake.

Although it wasn't as much as Sophia was worried about, she still felt sick.

However, Sophia was not coming to be treated as a guest, but because she was worried about me.

Because she is my friend.

"Thank you."

I, who had forgotten an important fact, smiled and said to Melua.

"You came to me even though you were busy and helped me in many ways."

"No, get well soon. Huh! Cough! Greatness. It seems that His Excellency the Count is not alone in his worries."

"I think Melua coughs more. It happens every time I see it."

I heard that coughing for that long is not good for your health.

"Uh, that's... No, no. Then, I'm going to get ready to welcome guests."

When I looked at him with worried eyes, he somehow made a fuss and left the room in a hurry. I didn't know that it was burdensome to be worried about his boss' fiancee.

'Now that I think about it. It must be uncomfortable for him too.'

Next time I see him, I should at least share some of the herbs Tristan sent me yesterday.

After eating it, I definitely felt like my magic was building up faster.

Has an hour passed since then?

Sophia, who seemed to have been running for a month, arrived at the Count's residence.

***

“Enrica!”

"Wow, Sophia. Hello."

"Oh my God, your face is already half full. Do you have severe body aches?"

"Does it look that weird?"

Kael told me not to worry about anything, but deep down I was worried about my face getting damaged before the wedding.

Sophia became a little sullen and touched her cheek, and she responded in embarrassment.

"No, no! I exaggerated because I was worried. You're still pretty."

I was embarrassed by the answer that was trying to make me feel better and ended up laughing.

Sophia, who laughed along, asked.

"Are you worried about the wedding?"

"Yes, I should be better by then."

Then Sophia carefully took something out of the luggage he had brought with her.

"I normally don't ask for things like this out of curiosity, but... I made up my mind and asked His Highness the Prince."

Soon, a crumpled piece of paper was held in her hand.

"This is a medicine given by the palace doctor. Eat this and get better soon."

"Wow, Sophia!"

I wonder how much thought and worry she had to go through to make this request, even though she was having a hard time with the second Prince.

Because I knew their relationship better than anyone else, I was in tears.

"Can I have something like this?"

"Of course not with your bare mouth."

I don't know how much I'm going to ask for, but I thought I'd give it all.

But what soon came out of her mouth was an unexpected request.

"You know, Enrica's robes, they're in the newspapers these days."

A crumpled piece of paper appeared once again in Sophia's arms.

It was a piece of dress that had appeared in the newspapers and had been cut out and pasted together.

"I've gathered it all here, but if you have the finished version, please let me take a look."

I burst out laughing at the request, which was so simple but full of selfishness.

"Sure. But wouldn't you like to see it revealed in real life?"

After hearing those words, I asked a series of questions to Sophia, who was worried again.

"Still, I guess your relationship with His Highness the Prince isn't bad these days. I see these requests being exchanged."

"I am. I worked hard, yes."

Unlike when she was talking about the dress earlier, her expression quickly darkened.

"It seems like he's gotten used to tormenting me in a different way these days."

"Wow, that's it. How?"

"There's less work than before, but I'm suffering mentally. Even though we don't have any plans, he keeps asking me to have dinner together or go out on the town with our faces covered."

As Sophia continued speaking, my expression became strange.

"He keeps talking to me unnecessarily. Ugh, what kind of wind is blowing? I'm so tired! If he's feeling sorry for tricking me now, just leave me alone."

Sophia seemed even more so.

'Anyone can see that this is a case where real feelings developed during a contract relationship.'

"Do he sometimes bring you gift? I thought it was oblivious too, but when there is nothing going on?"

"How did you know?"

Sophia answered with her face turning blue.

"Every time he sends snacks, I'm afraid that there might be poison in them."

"Why, why do you think that?"

"Because he is someone who can mercilessly get rid of me because I have become useless."

Sophia made a noise and began to line up her guesses.

I added in advance that this is absolutely, absolutely a secret and something only I know in the world.

Until now, the 2nd Prince, whose power was not enough, had been acting like an immature fool with Sophia.

The question was whether Sophia had become useless as she was gaining more and more power to stand against the First Prince.

"After the poisoning of his fiancee, he awakens, his personality changes, and he becomes closer to the throne. If this is enough, the narrative is great, right?"

"..."

Even though I was preparing a rebuttal, it honestly sounded like a reasonable idea.
