IDEFYEM - Chapter 14

Black Man, I'll Do Everything For You Except Marriage!

"Sister, let's talk."

How on earth did you find out about this place?

The appearance of an unexpected person made my shoulders tremble.

As I rolled my eyes, not knowing what to do, a large shadow appeared in my vision. The person standing between me and Marta was Kael.

'Wow, this is my first time seeing this expression...'

Even without taking any action, I could feel the man's cool aura. Kael looked down at Marta in an intimidating manner for a moment and then opened his mouth.

"Don't you think it's rude?"

The voice was a mixture of a slight sigh and a pitiful tone. Enough to make Martha, who came in front of me without warning, flinch.

"Oh, no. I am...."

Only then did Marta begin to make excuses in a slightly trembling voice.  was doubly surprised by the unfamiliar appearance of Kael and blinked before speaking.

"It's okay. I will talk to her and send her back."

"I hope you don't overdo it."

Wow, I feel overprotected. Feeling even more encouraged by that, I firmly nodded that it was okay

In this case, I don't know how the difference in status between the two people might work.

It was a solution I came up with because I didn't want the problem to escalate because of me.

I was hoping that I wouldn't have to see her again for a while.

I took a deep breath and looked straight into Martha's face.

"Is this story going to end soon?"

"Oh, no. Let's move places. I have a carriage."

I was a little taken aback by the unexpected aggressiveness but quickly nodded.

The carriage was not far away.

I left Kael waiting at the door and went inside.

"..."

Marta was the first to break the awkward silence.

"Are you really not coming home like this?"

"Why? Is father very angry? I guess you didn't come to tell me the obvious news that the Duke is angry."

While frowning and doubting, she gave an unexpected answer.

"My father just said that something that would happen someday brought forward."

"No way."

"Really. I think it's because of the letter he left behind."

Marta said, glancing at Kael's seal visible outside the door. No wonder.

You didn't just steal me away from the duke's residence. Wow, by the way, how did you write the letter to appease the Duke's anger?

Avoiding marriage with the Grand Duke couldn't be put to rest with just one letter!

Martha continued talking while I became even more confused.

"I saw my sister's room after you left. I, sister...."

Martha continued talking for a while. From that look, I started to get a rough idea of what she was trying to say.

Traces of the Duke exploiting Enrica as if she were a slave.

I looked back on my past memories a little emotionlessly.

The schedule is so rigorous that it is impossible to even dream of attending a banquet.

A room that is all about maintaining the minimum level of dignity, with only a small closet and not a dressing room.

These were things you could immediately notice when looking around the room where Enrica lived.

Although no physical scars remained, emotional scars remained.

"I-I didn't know it was that bad."

"Maybe you weren't interested, Martha."

The excuse you made after ignoring it the whole time was that you didn't know about it.

I couldn't control the anger that was slowly rising and I fired back.

There is no need to return to the Duke's residence anymore.

I thought it was the last time, so I vented my feelings like I always wanted to.

"You didn't know? Even after seeing me get slapped, you were the same as usual. Don't act like you're reflecting now."

"But it's my mom's fault... "

"I..."

I couldn't finish what I said out of anger, and an expression like "oops" appeared on my face.

"You mean mother, the Duke's mistress?"

Martha's eyes widened to a size she had never seen before. I didn't mean to say this.

Since she spoke first, wouldn't it be a good idea to get along with her?

I guess she knew that Martha wasn't my biological sister.

It was something I never even guessed until I saw the Duchess's diary.

Since I was a possessor, I only knew my past memories as something like that, so I couldn't really feel it.

"It's my mom's fault...!"

It was obvious even without looking. The Duke must have told young Martha his thoughts as if brainwashing her.

Martha, your mother died in an accident caused by the Duchess.

So it's natural that she hates Enrica.

I began to understand what had happened so far, like gears turning.

"I-I'm not really the Duke's daughter..."

"You know? How did you do that..."

Martha, who looked shocked for a while, soon began to plead.

"Please, please don't spread rumors. If that becomes known, I...."

"I am not you, Martha."

I answered with a sigh. Today's meeting was truly the worst.

"And you're not a kid anymore either. Think for yourself."

"..."

"It must be easy to blame everything on others. But it was really an accident."

With those last words, I closed the carriage door and left.

I saw the back of Kael, who was waiting for me.

'You must have heard it outside.'

I keep seeing things like this... I'm embarrassed.

Kael has always been a strong partner that I can rely on.

"Did you wait long?"

"Not at all."

I tried to smile, but my stiff expression wouldn't loosen. Kael, who was observing me carefully, spoke kindly.

"I'd like to get some rest too. If it's okay, shall we stop by the bookstore next time?"

It seemed like he knew I was having a hard time and was deliberately trying to postpone my schedule.

I smiled and responded to his consideration.

"Thank you."

***

Inside the rattling carriage again. It seemed like Kael was deliberately keeping his mouth shut so that I could rest.

I was looking at his profile the whole time, looking for a way to repay him. Then I remembered that there was something important I needed to tell him.

It would be better to show it in person rather than say it in words.

I closed my eyes and wiggled my palms as if I was warming up.

'Remember the feeling of dawn, Enri.'

Soon, I felt an unfamiliar sensation of something stirring near my heart. Soon, warm-colored magic rose like smoke from my fingertips.

"Wow, it's done!"

A lively voice came out with a sense of accomplishment.

Kael turned his attention to the sound of my voice and looked at the scene with a surprised expression.

Enjoying this small sense of pride, I slowly opened my mouth.

"Actually, I'm a wizard. I just recovered after not being able to use my magic for a while."

"..."

"It's a secret, but the reason why my father restrained me so much in the Duke's house was because of this magical power."

I cleared my slightly tense throat and continued my explanation.

"I was wondering if it might help lift your curse. I tried my best."

"... It's really unexpected, Enri."

The atmosphere inside the carriage suddenly changed, but it was never in a negative way.

The man was staring at me as if he were falling for the magic coming from my fingertips. I took advantage of that opportunity to reveal my true feelings.

"I'll do my best too. It's like Kael is doing his best for me right now."

"I didn't know you thought of me this much."

"Isn't it obvious? Even if it's fake and temporary, you're still my fiance."

Hmm, sometimes it seems like you have low self-esteem. It bothers me.

"So don't tell me you might die now."

Having recovered my magic, I ended the conversation with a smile.

"We will do it somehow."

Kael remained silent for a moment with a thoughtful look on his face.

"I feel lucky to have met you."

After those words, the man in the carriage never opened his mouth again. I thought Kael needed time to think too, so I kept my mouth shut.

As a result, the fatigue that had accumulated from the shopping, the argument with Martha, and the use of magical power just now came all at once.

'Why do I always fall asleep in the carriage...'

I tried to shake my head vigorously, but my heavy eyelids had already lowered.

***

"Enri.”

The Grand Duke, Raphael Kronhardt, arrived at his residence and opened his mouth.

“Enri?”

He carefully placed his hand on her shoulder, but there was no sign of her getting up.

Meanwhile, the body held in his hands was so thin that his eyebrows came together.

'It looks like you worked too hard today.'

At first, he was planning to owe her a little debt, like a bird without a cage. In the middle, he started to like the way she looked in the clothes he had chosen.

The man, who was lost in his thoughts for a moment, soon got out of the carriage.

The aide who was there to meet Enrica noticed her sleeping state and asked.

"Are you here, Your Highness? If the Lady is fast asleep, should I call her maids?"

"No."

He answered briefly and picked up Enrica's body without hesitation. The eyes of the servants who were with Melua widened at the same time.

In fact, Raphael just widened his stride and walked towards the bedroom with an indifferent expression.

Jump and jump.

After confirming that Enrica was clearly asleep, Rafael spoke to his aide.

"She has the ability to manipulate magic."

"Oh, what a rare talent."

"We need to investigate whether that fact has anything to do with my curse."

Even as Melua remembered the increased number of events, he did not miss the sense of déjà vu he felt somewhere.

His Master still speaks coldly to everyone. And yet, those arms that hold the woman with unbelievable care.

Finally, he couldn't resist the urge and opened his mouth.

Melia was wondering if he, a person who had served the Grand Duke family for three generations, should really be kicked out.

"Didn't you say, Your Highness, that the reason you want to keep Lady Wintersoure by your side is to lift the curse?"

"Okay."

"That... Although this is presumptuous."

Melua looked back through the window in the hallway. The carriages that had been sent from the clothing room earlier were still arriving one after another.

It was a sight Melua never thought he would see in my life in the colorless Duke's residence.

"Are you confusing the feeling of your heart beating without a bump with affection...?"

As soon as Melua closed his mouth, regret came over. It was because of the cold gaze he felt right next to him.

"Well, I think I made a mistake."

Melua thought with cold eyes while pretending to hastily collect the words.

'Well, I want to retire quickly...'
